Being a collaborative process that includes administrators, managers, preceptors, and orientees, formal orientation programs directly influence and are essential in improving staff retention, lowering turnover, increasing productivity and quality patient care, and improving staff morale and job satisfaction. This scholarly project offers a detailed plan for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the preceptor coordinator role, a department-level initiative that links hospital orientation to unit orientation; thus enhancing the overall orientation process.

It has been found that shifts worked, pharmacy involvement, miscommunication and multiple other elements contribute to the occurrence of medication errors. This study was performed at a Western North Carolina hospital examining recorded medication errors from January 1, 2007 through December 31, 2007. This quantitative, descriptive study surveyed 20 registered nurses in a single home health setting for the purpose of uncovering nurse attitudes toward physician-nurse collaboration. Particularly, the researcher was interested in whether the nurses held "positive" or "negative" attitudes. The data collection instrument was the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration (JSAPNC). Study data was analyzed via means of descriptive and inferential statistics.

The purpose of the study was to describe the experienced critical care RNs' perception of the new graduate RNs' competence in critical care areas. Using the Six-Dimension Scale of Nursing Performance (Six-D Scale) by Patricia Schwirian, experienced nurses from critical care areas with at least three years of experience were asked to rate new graduate RNs in their critical care area on specific nursing activities. This study describes patient expectations and actual pain relief reported by patients experiencing childbirth while utilizing epidural analgesia as their method of choice to reduce the pain associated with childbirth using a quantitative descriptive design. Data were collected using the Expectations of Pain Relief Utilizing Epidural Analgesia Questionnaire. The sample (N=17) consisted of first-time mothers delivering at an acute community hospital who were participants in the county's Nurse-Family Partnership Program. Acute and chronic exposures to OP insecticides have been documented-to cause adverse health effects, but few OP-adducted proteins have been correlated with these illnesses at the molecular level. Lamin B Receptor (LBR) is an integral membrane protein of the interphase nuclear envelope (NE). The N-terminal end resides in the nucleoplasm, binding to lamin B and heterochromatin, with the interactions disrupted during mitosis. The C-terminal end resides within the inner nuclear membrane, retreating with the ER away from condensing chromosomes during mitotic NE breakdown. Some of these properties are interpretable in terms of our current structural knowledge of LBR, but many of the structural features remain unknown. LBR apparently has an evolutionary history which brought together at least two ancient conserved structural domains (i.e. Tudor and sterol reductase). This …

This intent is noteworthy and timely, as the complexities are important to address and there is an urgent need for clear-headed strategy. However, disappointingly, the book largely fails, as it is a rambling polemic that lacks focus, clarity and originality. The study examined the effectiveness of a culturally-adapted Strengthening Families Program (SFP) for Latinos to reduce risks for alcohol and drug use in children. Latino families, predominantly Puerto Rican, with a 9–12 year old child and a parent(s) with a substance abuse problem participated in the study. Pre- and post-tests were conducted with each family. Parental stress, parent-child dysfunctional relations, and child behavior problems were reduced in the families receiving the intervention; family hardiness and family attachment were improved. Race and gender may be important considerations for recognizing alcohol related problems in Black and White young adults. This study examined the prevalence and age of onset of individual alcohol problems and alcohol problem severity across race and gender subgroups from a longitudinal study of a community sample of adolescents followed into young adulthood (N = 166; 23–29 yrs. old who were drinkers). All alcohol problems examined first occurred when subjects were in their late teens and early 20s. Recently, genetic association findings for nicotine dependence, smoking behavior, and smoking-related diseases converged to implicate the chromosome 15q25.1 region, which includes the CHRNA5-CHRNA3-CHRNB4 cholinergic nicotinic receptor subunit genes. In particular, association with the nonsynonymous CHRNA5 SNP rs16969968 and correlates has been replicated in several independent studies. Extensive genotyping of this region has suggested additional statistically distinct signals for nicotine dependence, tagged by rs578776 and rs588765. HIV protease inhibitor (PI)-induced inflammatory response plays an important role in HIV PI-associated dyslipidemia and cardiovascular complications. This study examined the effect of berberine, a traditional herb medicine, on HIV PI-induced inflammatory response and further investigated the underlying cellular/molecular mechanisms in macrophages.

Methodology and Principal Findings

Cultured mouse J774A.1 macrophages and primary mouse macrophages were used in this study. The expression of TNF-α and IL-6 were detected by real-time RT-PCR and ELISA. Background:

Policy strategies aimed at modifying aspects of the social, physical, economic, and educational environments have been proposed as potential solutions to the growing problem of physical inactivity. To develop effective physical activity policies in these and other areas, greater understanding of how and why policies successfully impact behavior change is needed.

Methods:

The current paper proposes a conceptual framework explaining how policy strategies map onto health behavior theoretical variables and processes thought to lead to physical activity change. This framework is used to make hypotheses about the potential effectiveness of different policy strategies.

Breast cancer is one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers among women. Breast cancer treatments often negatively impact the function of the arm, and quality of life and upper extremity function does not always return to a prediagnosis level. Survivors of breast cancer may also experience feelings of diminished self-efficacy related to functional deficits resulting from their physical limitations. วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อเปรียบเทียบการรั่วซึมระดับจุลภาคที่ผนังด้านบดเคี้ยวและผนังด้านเหงือกของโพรงฟันชนิด คลาสไฟว์ที่บูรณะด้วยเรซินคอมโพสิตโดยใช้สารยึดติดระบบเซลฟ์เอทช์ 2 ชนิด ระหว่างกลุ่มโพรงฟันที่ปนเปื้อน สารห้ามเลือดและไม่ล้างน้ํา กลุ่มที่โพรงฟันปนเปื้อนสารห้ามเลือดและล้างน้ํา กับกลุ่มควบคุมที่ไม่มีการปนเปื้อนสารห้ามเลือด วัสดุและวิธีการ เตรียมโพรงฟันคลาสไฟว์ในฟันกรามน้อยบนของมนุษย์จํานวน 70 ซี่ ให้ผนังด้านบดเคี้ยวอยู่บน เคลือบฟันและผนังด้านเหงือกอยู่บนเคลือบรากฟัน สุ่มแบ่งฟันทั้งหมดเป็น 7 กลุ่ม กลุ่มละ 10 ซี่ โดยเตรียมผิวฟัน 3 ลักษณะคือ กลุ่มที่ไม่มีการปนเปื้อนสารห้ามเลือด กลุ่มปนเปื้อนสารห้ามเลือดและไม่ล้างน้ํา และกลุ่มปนเปื้อน สารห้ามเลือดและล้างน้ํา ทําการบูรณะฟันด้วยเรซินคอมโพสิตโดยใช้สารยึดติดก่อนการบูรณะ 2 ชนิด คือ เคลียร์ ฟิลเอสอีบอนด์และเคลียร์ฟิลไตรเอสบอนด์ กลุ่มที่ไม่ใช้สารยึดติดเป็นกลุ่มควบคุมเชิงลบ หลังบูรณะนําชิ้นงาน ทั้งหมดมาผ่านกระบวนการเทอร์โมไซคลิงก่อนทดสอบการรั่วซึมระดับจุลภาคด้วยการแช่ใน 50% ซิลเวอร์ไนเตรต เป็นเวลา 24 ชั่วโมง อ่านผลคะแนนการรั่วซึมทั้งผนังด้านบดเคี้ยวและผนังด้านเหงือก เปรียบเทียบการรั่วซึมระดับ จุลภาคด้วยสถิตินอนพาราเมตริกครัสคาล วัลลิส การเปรียบเทียบพหุคูณ และสถิติแมนวิทนีย์ ยู เทสท์ ผลการศึกษา การรั่วซึมระดับจุลภาคที่ผนังด้านบดเคี้ยวของกลุ่มที่ใช้เคลียร์ฟิลเอสอีบอนด์ซึ่งมีการปนเปื้อนสาร ห้ามเลือดแล้วล้างน้ําและไม่ล้างน้ําไม่มีความแตกต่างจากกลุ่มควบคุม (p = 0.5555) ส่วนการปนเปื้อนสารห้าม เลือดที่ผนังด้านเหงือกโดยไม่ผ่านการล้างน้ํามีการรั่วซึมมากกว่ากลุ่มควบคุมอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ (p = 0.0001) สําหรับกลุ่มที่ใช้เคลียร์ฟิลไตรเอสบอนด์พบว่าการปนเปื้อนสารห้ามเลือดโดยไม่ผ่านการล้างน้ํามีการรั่วซึมที่ผนังด้านบดเคี้ยวและผนังด้านเหงือกมากกว่ากลุ่มควบคุมอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ (p = 0.0006 และ p = 0.0001 ตามลําดับ)สรุป การใช้สารยึดติดเคลียร์ฟิลเอสอีบอนด์ และเคลียร์ฟิลไตรเอสบอนด์ในการบูรณะด้วยเรซินคอมโพสิตเมื่อมี การปนเปื้อนสารห้ามเลือดโดยไม่ทําการล้างน้ําจะให้ค่าการรั่วซึมมากกว่ากลุ่มควบคุมและกลุ่มปนเปื้อนสารห้าม เลือดที่ทําการล้างน้ํายกเว้นที่ผนังด้านบดเคี้ยวของกลุ่มที่ใช้เคลียร์ฟิลเอสอีบอนด์ที่การปนเปื้อนไม่มีผลต่อการรั่วซึม (ว ทันต จุฬาฯ 2553;33:15-24)

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อเปรียบเทียบค่ากําลังแรงยึดเฉือนผิวปอกของวัสดุยึดทางทันตกรรมจัดฟันที่ยึดแบร็กเก็ตกับผิว เคลือบฟัน ระหว่างกลุ่มแบร็กเก็ตที่ถูกเป่าทรายและติดซ้ํา กับกลุ่มแบร็กเก็ตใหม่ วัสดุและวิธีการ นําแบร็กเก็ตใหม่จํานวน 30 ตัวอย่างมายึดติดโดยตรงบนผิวฟันกรามน้อยบนด้วยวัสดุยึดทาง ทันตกรรมจัดฟันชนิดบ่มตัวเอง ทําการทดสอบเพื่อวัดค่ากําลังแรงยืดเฉือนผิวปอกสูงสุดของวัสดุ ขณะแบร็กเก็ตหลุดหลังจากนั้นนําแบร็กเก็ตมาทําความสะอาดฐานด้วยการเป่าทราย กําจัดเศษวัสดุที่ติดอยู่บนผิวฟันด้วยหัวคาร์ไบด์ กรอช้า และยึดติดด้วยวิธีเดิมที่ผิวฟันซี่เดิมซ้ําอีก 2 ครั้ง ทําการทดสอบเพื่อวัดค่ากําลังแรงยึดเฉือนผิวปอกสูงสุด ขณะแบร็กเก็ตหลุดเมื่อติดแบร็กเก็ตซ้ําครั้งที่ 1 และ 2 ตามลําดับ ผลการศึกษา ค่าเฉลี่ยกําลังแรงยึดเฉือนผิวปอกสูงสุดในกลุ่มแบร็กเก็ตใหม่ แบร็กเก็ตที่ติดครั้งที่ 1 และ 2 มีค่าเป็น 12.64 + 5.22 เมกะปาสคาล 4.14 + 1.29 เมกะปาสคาล และ 1.46 + 0.98 เมกะปาสคาล ตามลําาดับ และพบว่ามีความแตกต่างอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับความเชื่อมั่น 95% ระหว่างกลุ่มแบร็กเก็ตใหม่กับกลุ่ม แบร็กเก็ตที่ติดครั้งที่ 1 และระหว่างกลุ่มแบร็กเก็ตที่ติดครั้งที่ 1กับกลุ่มแบร็กเก็ตที่ติดครั้งที่ 2 สรุป ในการยึดติดแบร็กเก็ตโดยตรงบนผิวเคลือบฟันด้วยวัสดุยึดทางทันตกรรมจัดฟันชนิดบ่มตัวเอง การติด แบร็กเก็ตที่ถูกเป่าทรายที่ผิวฟันซี่เดิม จะได้ค่ากําลังแรงยึดเฉือนผิวปอกลดลง (ว ทันต จุฬาฯ 2553;33:25-30)

เซรามิกเป็นวัสดุชนิดหนึ่งที่นิยมใช้สําหรับบูรณะฟัน แม้ว่าจะเป็นวัสดุที่มีความสวยงามและแข็งแรง แต่เซรามิกก็ การรื้อชิ้นงานเซรามิกเดิมเพื่อสร้างชิ้นงานใหม่อาจไม่เป็นที่ต้องการสําหรับผู้ป่วยเพราะต้องใช้ เวลาและค่าใช้จ่าย จึงมีการเสนอแนะวิธีการซ่อมแซมด้วยเรซินคอมโพสิตเพื่อเป็นทางเลือกหนึ่งในการรักษาเชิงร้าวหรือแตกบินได้อนุรักษ์หรือเพื่อแก้ปัญหาฉุกเฉินทางคลินิก โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งกรณีที่เกิดการแตกปืนในตําแหน่งที่เกี่ยวข้องกับ ความสวยงาม บทความปริทัศน์นี้จะกล่าวถึงการซ่อมแซมเซรามิกในช่องปาก ในหัวข้อต่าง ๆ คือ ชนิดและองค์ ประกอบของเซรามิก วัสดุที่นํามาใช้ในการซ่อมแซม การเตรียมพื้นผิวและกลไกการยึดติด วิธีการซ่อมแซม ความ แข็งแรงการยึดติด และอัตราการอยู่รอดของการซ่อมแซม (ว ทันต จุฬาฯ 2553;33:51-66)

การศึกษาย้อนหลังเพื่อหาปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อคุณภาพทางเทคนิคของการรักษาพลเพคโตมีในฟันน้ํานม, อรอุมา คงทวีเลิศ, บุษยรัตน์ สันติวงศ์, ไพโรจน์ หลินศวนนท์

วัตถุประสงค์ การศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อประเมินคุณภาพทางเทคนิคของการอุดคลองรากฟันน้ํานม และหาปัจจัยที่มีความสัมพันธ์ต่อคุณภาพทางเทคนิคของการอุดคลองรากฟันน้ํานม วัสดุและวิธีการ เป็นการศึกษาแบบย้อนหลังซึ่งเก็บข้อมูลจากระเบียนประวัติทางทันตกรรมของผู้ป่วยเด็ก 166 คน ที่ได้รับการรักษาพลเพคโตมี จากภาควิชาทันตกรรมสําหรับเด็ก คณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ตั้งแต่เดือนมกราคม พ.ศ. 2547 จนถึงเดือนมกราคม พ.ศ. 2552 ทําการศึกษาโดยบันทึกข้อมูลพื้นฐานและข้อมูลการรักษาพลเพคโตมี ประเมินการละลายของรากฟันจากพยาธิสภาพจากภาพรังสีก่อนการรักษา ความยาวและ ความแน่นของวัสดุอุดคลองรากฟัน ซึ่งพิจารณาจากภาพรังสีการขุดคลองรากฟันภายหลังรักษาทันที วิเคราะห์ ด้วยสถิติวิเคราะห์ความแบบพหุปัจจัยเพื่อหาปัจจัยร่วมที่มีอิทธิพลต่อคุณภาพทางเทคนิคของการอุดคลองรากฟันถดถอยโลจิสติกแบบไบนารี ผลการศึกษา การศึกษานี้พบว่า วัสดุอุดอยู่ในระดับสั้นกว่าปลายรากฟัน ร้อยละ 45.9 ระดับพอดีปลายรากฟันร้อยละ 22.9 และระดับที่เป็นปลายรากฟัน ร้อยละ 31.2 ฟันที่มีการละลายของรากฟันจากพยาธิสภาพมีโอกาสใน การอุดเป็นปลายรากฟันเป็น 6.2 เท่าของพื้นที่ไม่มีการละลายของรากฟันจากพยาธิสภาพ การอุดคลองรากฟัน ด้วยวัสดุไวตาเพ็กซ์มีโอกาสในการอุดเกินเป็น 2.2 เท่า ของวัสดุซิงค์ออกไซด์ยูจีนอล สรุป การประเมินคุณภาพทางเทคนิคการขุดคลองรากฟันน้ํานมของนิสิตทันตแพทย์ พบว่าส่วนใหญ่อุดคลองรากฟันได้สั้นหรือเกินมากกว่าอุดพอดี นอกจากนั้นการศึกษานี้ยังพบว่าการละลายภายนอกรากฟันจากพยาธิสภาพ และชนิดของวัสดุอุดคลองรากฟัน มีอิทธิพลต่อคุณภาพทางเทคนิคของการอุดคลองรากฟัน (ว ทันต จุฬาฯ 2553;33:41-50)
