Anaesthesia At Remote Location: Use Of Modified Bain Circuit (Mapleson D) At Kunri Christian Hospital (Kch), Ehtesham Izhar Khan, Hameed Ullah, Rehana Kamal

OBJECTIVE: To develop a safe general anaesthesia technique for remote areas with lack of facilities.

METHODS: Four types of anaesthesia techniques using TIVA and modified Bain circuit were planned. Monitoring facility was limited to manual sphygmomanometer, palpation of radial pulse and monitoring of colour of skin and blood. Depth of anaesthesia was assessed using EVANs, RPST scoring system. Patients were asked in recovery room for awareness.

RESULTS: Surgeries done were cesarean sections, laparotomies, gynaecological, urological, hernia and burn contractures. Six patients had RPST score of 5 or more and three patients in recovery room complained of awareness. Cost per Anaesthesia …

Bovine tuberculosis (TB) is a serious disease with animal health, public health, and international trade consequences. The cooperative Federal-State-industry effort to eradicate bovine TB from cattle in the United States has made significant progress since the program’s inception in 1917. However, the goal of eradication remains elusive.

This proposed action plan presents Veterinary Services’ (VS’) current thinking about changes we are considering for the TB program to address our current challenges.

This action plan will:
1. Reduce the introduction of TB into the U.S. national herd from imported animals and wildlife by:

Abstract Glycoprotein 3 (GP3) is a highly glycosylated PRRSV envelope protein which has been reported as being present in the virions of PRRSV type I, while missing in the type II PRRSV (US) virions. We herein present evidence that GP3 is indeed incorporated in the virus particles of a North American strain of PRRSV (FL12), at a density that is consistent with the minor structural role assigned to GP3 in members of the Arterivirus genus. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is a potent inflammagen that has been found to be primarily responsible for many symptoms caused by gram-negative bacterial infections. The LPS-initiated signal transduction pathways involve several terminal kinases, mainly p42/44 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), p38 MAPK and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), ultimately leading to increased expression of genes encoding such inflammatory cytokines as interleukin (IL )-1 �. IL-6 and tumor necrosis factors (TNF)-u. In this study, the effects of age on LPS-induced activation of MAPKs in the liver of rats were examined. Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine Illinois high school coaches’ knowledge of hydration and fluid replacement strategies. We also sought to identify their primary sources of fluid replacement information. Design: Descriptive Survey. Participants: 22 Coaches who were members of the Illinois High School Association were the survey respondents in this study. The mean age (±SD) of subjects was 37.4(±11.5) years with an average coaching experience of 11.4(±8.96) years. Intervention: A questionnaire was developed based upon the National Athletic Training Association’s Position Stand and the American College of Sports Medicine’s roundtable discussion of fluid replacement and hydration. Eclampsia occurring without prior signs and symptoms of preeclampsia is called atypical eclampsia. We present a case of 28 year old primigravida who developed intrapartum seizures. There was no prior clinical or biochemical evidence of preeclampsia. We have discussed the differentials of intrapartum seizures and a review of literature on atypical eclampsia.

High blood pressure and endothelial dysfunction are two systemic abnormalities of the cardiovascular system that extensively contribute to the etiology of cardiovascular diseases, which represent the number one killer in the United States for decades and become more severe in developing countries. Previous studies have indicated that aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR), a transcription factor primarily mediating xenobiotic metabolism, plays an important role in cardiovascular development and physiology. AHR deficient mice have been demonstrated to develop hypotension at sea level and oxygen-dependent, endothelin-1 (ET-1) mediated hypertension at mild altitude. Poor wound healing is a serious medical issue of particular concern in the elderly and people with diabetes. One major obstacle for these patients to achieve complete wound healing is incomplete reepithelialization which is necessary for restoration of barrier function. One molecule that has promising therapeutic value for promoting reepithelialization is epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). Using a squamous cell carcinoma cell line (SCC 12F) that expresses moderate levels of EGFR, we investigated the contributions of EGFR activation to reepithelialization, and specifically its roles in modulation of cell-cell junctions. Motile cilia of the mammalian airway play an essential role in innate defense. The coordinated transcriptional regulation of cilial axoneme genes remains to be elucidated. Transcription factor FOXJ1 has been shown to be important in ciliogenesis; however, direct transactivation of cilia genes by FOXJ1 has not been reported. Using a combined bioinformatics and experimental approach, here, we show a transcriptional network for cilia gene expression. FOXJ1 can directly transactivate endogenous cilia genes such as ENKURIN, EFHC2, IFT57, RIBC2 and ROPN1L in human bronchial epithelial cells (HBEC). Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) can have serious immediate as well as long term consequences, both for the mother as well as the off-spring. It seems that women of south Asian origin are not only more likely to have GDM but also suffer more from the adverse consequences of the disorder. These consequences include the development of type 2 DM in women with a history of GDM and a higher risk of obesity and metabolic syndrome in the off-spring.
