ผลของยาโพรพราโนลอลต่อความเจ็บปวดในผู้ป่วยโรคข้อต่อขากรรไกร, กนกพร พะลัง, วีนัส เข็มขันธุ์, อภิญญา ศรีเลขะรัตน์, ลัคนา เหลืองจามีกร

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อทดสอบประสิทธิภาพของยาโพรพราโนลอลซึ่งเป็นยาปิดกั้นเบต้าที่ไม่จําเพาะเจาะจง ในการลดความเจ็บปวดในผู้ป่วยโรคข้อต่อขากรรไกร วัสดุและวิธีการ ศึกษาในผู้ป่วยโรคข้อต่อขากรรไกรที่มีความเจ็บปวดบริเวณใบหน้าและ/หรือข้อต่อขากรรไกร จํานวน 4 คน โดยผู้ป่วยรับประทานยาโพรพราโนลอลเป็นเวลา 2 สัปดาห์ (สัปดาห์แรกได้รับยาโพรพราโนลอล 20 มิลลิกรัมต่อวันและในสัปดาห์ที่สองได้รับยาโพรพราโนลอล 40 มิลลิกรัมต่อวัน) จากนั้นหยุดพักยา 2 สัปดาห์ และรับประทานยาลวง 2 สัปดาห์ โดยผู้ป่วยบันทึกระดับความเจ็บปวด (ระดับความเจ็บปวดเฉลี่ย, ความเจ็บปวดสูงสุด, ความเจ็บปวดต่ําสุด และร้อยละของเวลาในช่วงที่ตื่นที่มีความเจ็บปวด) ในแบบฟอร์มที่ผู้วิจัยจัดไว้ให้ทุกวัน ทั้งนี้ ผู้ป่วยและผู้วิจัยไม่ทราบว่าผู้ป่วยได้รับยาชนิดใดในแต่ละช่วง การเปรียบเทียบระดับความเจ็บปวดระหว่างแต่ละช่วง ของการทดลองใช้การทดสอบเชิงผลรวมและลําดับที่แบบวิลคอกชน ผลการศึกษา ยาโพรพราโนลอล 40 มิลลิกรัมสามารถทําให้คะแนนความเจ็บปวดโดยรวมของผู้ป่วยลดลง ส่วนยา โพรพราโนลอล 20 มิลลิกรัมมิได้ทําให้คะแนนความเจ็บปวดโดยรวมของผู้ป่วยลดลง อย่างไรก็ตาม ไม่พบความ แตกต่างอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติเมื่อเปรียบเทียบคะแนนความเจ็บปวดระหว่างช่วงการใช้ยาโพรพราโนลอลกับยาลวง (p < .05) เมื่อสิ้นสุดการทดลองเจ้าหน้าที่ได้สอบถามถึงช่วงที่ผู้ป่วยคิดว่าตนเองได้รับยาโพรพราโนลอล ผลปรากฏว่าผู้ป่วยทุกคนสามารถระบุได้ถูกต้อง สรุป การทดลองเบื้องต้นในผู้ป่วย 4 คนที่ทําการศึกษา พบว่า ยาโพรพราโนลอลสามารถลดความเจ็บปวดในผู้ป่วย โรคข้อต่อขากรรไกรได้ แต่เมื่อเปรียบเทียบทางสถิติกับยาลวงพบว่ามีประสิทธิภาพไม่แตกต่างกัน (ว ทันต จุฬาฯ 2548;28:89-98)

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างแบบแผนของการรักษาทางทันตกรรมของผู้ป่วยเด็กและประเภทของ หลักประกันทันตสุขภาพ วัสดุและวิธีการ เก็บข้อมูลชนิดของการรักษาจากแฟ้มบันทึกการรักษาผู้ป่วยเด็กที่เข้ามารับบริการที่กลุ่มงาน ทันตกรรม โรงพยาบาลราชพิพัฒน์ เขตบางแค กรุงเทพมหานคร ตั้งแต่วันที่ 1 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2543 ถึงวันที่ 31 ธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2546 รวมทั้งสิ้น 1,052 คน นําข้อมูลที่ได้มาวิเคราะห์ทางสถิติ โดยใช้สถิติเชิงพรรณนาและทําการ ทดสอบไคสแควร์ที่ระดับนัยสําคัญ .05 ผลการศึกษา ผู้ป่วยเด็กได้เพิ่มปริมาณขึ้นสูงสุดในปี พ.ศ. 2545 ซึ่งเป็นปีที่เริ่มมีโครงการหลักประกันสุขภาพ ถ้วนหน้าทั้งในด้านปริมาณคนและปริมาณงาน อายุที่ผู้ปกครองส่วนใหญ่พามาพบอยู่ในช่วงอายุ 4-9 ปี พฤติกรรม การดูแลสุขภาพช่องปากของผู้ปกครอง มักมาพบทันตแพทย์เมื่อมีอาการ แบบแผนการรักษาทางทันตกรรม ส่วนใหญ่เป็นการรักษามากกว่าการป้องกัน (p < .001) ไม่ว่าผู้ป่วยจะมีหลักประกันทันตสุขภาพแบบใด การรักษา ส่วนใหญ่คือการอุดฟันและการถอนฟัน สรุป แบบแผนการรักษาทางทันตกรรมของผู้ป่วยเด็กยังคงไม่เปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างเด่นชัดจากก่อนและหลังการมีโครงการหลักประกันสุขภาพถ้วนหน้า (ว ทันต จุฬาฯ 2548;28:145-54)

Store-operated Ca²⁺ (SOC) channels regulate many cellular processes, but the underlying molecular components are not well defined. Using an RNA interference (RNAi)-based screen to identify genes that alter thapsigargin (TG)-dependent Ca²⁺ entry, we discovered a required and conserved role of Stim in SOC influx. RNAi-mediated knockdown of Stim in Drosophila S2 cells significantly reduced TG-dependent Ca²⁺ entry. Patch-clamp recording revealed nearly complete suppression of the Drosophila Ca²⁺ release-activated Ca²⁺(CRAC) current that has biophysical characteristics similar to CRAC current in human T cells. Objective: To determine whether central nervous system functioning has an effect on the normal, term infant's ability to breastfeed in the first day following birth. Design: Breastfeeding behaviors and neurobehaviors were evaluated at birth and at 24 hrs of age in two groups of neonates. One group of neonates was born to mothers who received epidural analgesia during labor, and one group was born to mothers who received no pain medication. Breastfeeding behavior was evaluated using the Preterm Infant Breastfeeding Behavior Scale, and the infant's neurobehaviors were evaluated using the Neurologic and Adaptive Capacity Score. The present study investigates the relationship between volunteer helping and alcohol use and drinking problems in a sample of 396 college students. Two pilot studies were conducted to adapt a measure of helping behavior (Kaskutas, Oberste, & Zemore, 2002) for use with college students. The present study tests the hypothesis that students who help others are less likely to consume alcohol and subsequently less likely to suffer alcohol-related problems than their peers. The aim of this study was to examine ten male rowers and seven female rowers on a number of physiological variables to determine which may account for variation in 2000m rowing performance. Male rowers' mean (±SD) age, body weight, and height were 17.4±0.7 years, 75.2± 11.2 kg, and 181.4±6.1 cm, and female rowers' mean (±SD) age, body weight, and height were 17.3±0.6 years, 72.4±14.9 kg, and 168.3±6.7 cm respectively. Background and Purpose. The purpose of this case report is to explore the feasibility of electromyography-triggered neuromuscular stimulation (EMG-stim) as an adjunct to constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT).

Case Description. The patient was a 72-year-old man, 10 years poststroke, who did not meet traditional CIMT criteria. The EMG-stim was applied to the wrist extensors of the patient's weaker arm for one half of the CIMT training hours.

Outcomes. The intervention was feasible for this individual. Improvements were observed in motor behavior, quality and amount of use, muscle activity, wrist range of motion, and reaction time of the more-affected extremity. These improvements …

Migrant populations of South Asian origin have a higher risk for chronic kidney disease than the native whites. Several formulas have been developed to estimate kidney function from serum creatinine concentration. However, none of these has been validated in the South Asian population, which generally has different muscle mass composition than whites. A population-based cross-sectional study was performed on 262 individuals who were aged > or = 40 yr in Karachi, Pakistan. Objectives: To test an original scale assessing perceived school climate for girls' physical activity in middle school girls. Methods: Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM). Results: CFA retained 5 of 14 original items. A model with 2 correlated factors, perceptions about teachers' and boys' behaviors, respectively, fit the data well in both sixth and eighth-graders. SEM detected a positive, significant direct association of the teacher factor, but not the boy factor, with girls' self-reported physical activity. Conclusions: School climate for girls' physical activity is a measurable construct, and preliminary evidence suggests a relationship with physical activity.

Two ETS transcription factors of the Pea3 subfamily are induced in subpopulations of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) sensory and spinal motor neurons by target-derived factors. Their expression controls late aspects of neuronal differentiation such as target invasion and branching. Here, we show that the late onset of ETS gene expression is an essential requirement for normal sensory neuron differentiation. We provide genetic evidence in the mouse that precocious ETS expression in DRG sensory neurons perturbs axonal projections, the acquisition of terminal differentiation markers, and their dependence on neurotrophic support. The purpose of this Thesis Manual is to provide academic procedural guidelines for Master of Science students in the basic sciences at Thomas Jefferson University. Procedures for preparation and approval of the research proposal, committee meetings, writing of the thesis and the oral presentation of the Master's thesis are described.

The herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) latency-associated transcript (LAT) is the only abundant viral transcript expressed in latently infected neurons. LAT inhibits apoptosis, suggesting that it regulates latency by promoting the survival of infected neurons. The LAT locus also contains a newly described gene (AL), which is antisense to LAT and partially overlaps LAT encoding sequences.
