วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อให้ทราบทัศนคติของทันตแพทย์ที่จบและกําลังศึกษาหลักสูตรทันตแพทยศาสตรบัณฑิตจาก จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ในวิชาทันตกรรมประดิษฐ์ ที่จัดสอนในหลักสูตรปัจจุบันว่ามีความเหมาะสม และเพียงพอ ต่อความต้องการของทันตแพทย์ในการประกอบอาชีพเป็นทันตแพทย์ทั่วไปหรือไม่ เพื่อที่จะนําข้อมูลที่ได้มาสรุปเป็นแนวทางปรับปรุงหลักสูตรให้เหมาะสมยิ่งขึ้น วัสดุและวิธีการ จัดส่งแบบสอบถามจํานวน 400 ชุด ให้กับทันตแพทย์ที่สําเร็จการศึกษาแล้ว และทันตแพทย์ชั้น ปี 5 และ 6 ของคณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ซึ่งแบบสอบถามที่ใช้ในการสํารวจ แบ่งเป็น 4 ส่วน คือ ข้อมูลทั่วไปของผู้ตอบแบบสอบถาม ข้อมูลความรู้เชิงทันตกรรมประดิษฐ์ ข้อมูลความเหมาะสมและ ความทันสมัยของหลักสูตรวิชาทันตกรรมประดิษฐ์ ทั้ง 4 วิชา คือ วิชาฟันปลอมบางส่วนชนิดติดแน่น ฟันปลอม บางส่วนชนิดถอดได้ ฟันปลอมทั้งปาก ทันตวัสดุศาสตร์ และข้อมูลเสนอแนะ ผลการศึกษา จากตัวอย่างแบบสอบถามทั้งหมด มีข้อมูลที่สามารถนํามาวิเคราะห์ได้ 148 ชุด จากทันตแพทย์ที่ สําเร็จการศึกษาแล้ว 60 ราย คิดเป็นร้อยละ 40.5 และนิสิตทันตแพทย์ จํานวน 88 ราย คิดเป็นร้อยละ 59.5 ให้ ความคิดเห็นว่า วิชาบรรยาย และวิชาฝึกปฏิบัติการ อยู่ในระดับดี คือ ฟันปลอมบางส่วนชนิดติดแน่น ฟันปลอม บางส่วนชนิดถอดได้ และฟันปลอมทั้งปาก ส่วนทันตวัสดุศาสตร์อยู่ในระดับพอใช้ สําหรับวิชาฝึกปฏิบัติการคลินิก อยู่ในระดับดีคือ ฟันปลอมทั้งปาก ส่วนฟันปลอมบางส่วนชนิดติดแน่น และฟันปลอมบางส่วนชนิดถอดได้ อยู่ในระดับพอใช้ สรุป หลักสูตรวิชาทันตกรรมประดิษฐ์ส่วนใหญ่อยู่ในเกณฑ์ดี และทันตแพทย์ส่วนใหญ่เห็นควรให้มีการทบทวน บทเรียน และมีหนังสือคู่มือสําหรับการฝึกปฏิบัติการคลินิกให้มากขึ้น

การเปรียบเทียบการรั่วซึมบริเวณปลายราก ของจุฬาซีลเลอร์กับซิงค์ออกไซด์ยูจีนอลซีลเลอร์ ชนิดอื่นในการอุดคลองรากฟัน, สุรสิทธิ์ เกียรติพงษ์สาร, วีรวัฒน์ สัตยานุรักษ์, วิภา วิชิตจารุกุล

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อเปรียบเทียบคุณสมบัติของซีลเลอร์ในด้านการรั่วซึมบริเวณปลายรากของจุฬาซีลเลอร์กับซิงค์ออกไซด์ ยูจีนอลซีลเลอร์ชนิดอื่นในการอุดคลองรากฟันร่วมกับกัตตาเปอร์ชาด้วยวิธีแลเทอรัลคอนเดนเซชัน วัสดุและวิธีการ ศึกษาในฟันรากเดียวที่ถูกถอนแล้วจํานวน 55 ปี หลังจากทําการขยายและทําความสะอาดคลอง รากฟันแล้ว แบ่งฟันออกเป็น 5 กลุ่ม โดยแบ่งเป็นกลุ่มทดลอง 3 กลุ่ม ๆ ละ 15 ซี่ กลุ่มควบคุม 2 กลุ่ม ซึ่งแบ่งเป็น กลุ่มควบคุมผลบวกและกลุ่มควบคุมผลลบอย่างละ 5 ปี ในกลุ่มทดลองแต่ละกลุ่มอุดคลองรากโดยใช้กัตตาเปอร์ชา และซีลเลอร์ร่วมชนิดต่าง ๆ คือ จุฬาซีลเลอร์ โพรโคชอลซีลเลอร์ และพัลป์เดนท์ซีลเลอร์ ส่วนกลุ่มควบคุมอุดคลองราก โดยไม่ใช้ซีลเลอร์ เก็บฟันไว้ในความชื้น 48 ชั่วโมง แล้วแช่ในอินเดียนอิงค์เป็นเวลา 7 วัน นําฟันมาทําให้ใสแล้ว ตรวจสอบการรั่วซึมของสีที่บริเวณปลายรากด้วยกล้องจุลทรรศน์สเตอริโอ ผลการศึกษา จากการวิเคราะห์ทางสถิติพบว่าไม่มีความแตกต่างของการรั่วซึมของสีระหว่างซีลเลอร์แต่ละชนิดอย่าง มีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ (p>0.05)สรุป จุฬาซีลเลอร์มีประสิทธิภาพในการต้านทานการรั่วซึมของสีบริเวณปลายรากไม่แตกต่างจากซิงค์ออกไซด์ยูจีนอลซีลเลอร์ชนิดอื่นเมื่อขุดคลองรากฟันด้วยวิธีแลเทอรัลคอนเดนเซชัน

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาเปรียบเทียบผลการวัดความเป็นพิษด้วยวิธีการย้อมเซลล์ด้วยสีเมทิลีนบลูกับวิธีวิเคราะห์ด้วย สารเอ็มทีที วัสดุและวิธีการ วัดความเป็นพิษของโซเดียมฟลูออไรด์ที่มีต่อเซลล์สร้างเส้นใยที่เพาะเลี้ยงจากเหงือกและวัดความเป็นพิษของไฮโดรเจนเพอร์ออกไซด์ที่มีต่อเซลล์สร้างเส้นใยที่เพาะเลี้ยงจากเนื้อเยื่อโพรงฟันของมนุษย์ โดยใช้วิธีวิเคราะห์ทั้ง 2 วิธีดังกล่าว เปรียบเทียบผลของความเป็นพิษของสารทั้งสองชนิดที่ได้จากการวัดในวิธีวิเคราะห์ด้วย วิธีการย้อมสีเซลล์ด้วยสีเมทิลีนบลูหรือวิธีวิเคราะห์ด้วยสารเอ็มทีที โดยใช้การวิเคราะห์ทางสถิติ การวิเคราะห์ความแปรปรวนแบบทางเดียว เพื่อหาระดับความเป็นพิษของสารทดสอบในแต่ละความเข้มข้นที่มีต่อเซลล์ในแต่ละวิธีวิเคราะห์ จากนั้นจึงนําผลที่แสดงระดับความเป็นพิษของวิธีวิเคราะห์ทั้ง 2 วิธีมาเปรียบเทียบกัน ผลการศึกษา พบว่าการวัดความเป็นพิษของโซเดียมฟลูออไรด์ที่มีต่อเซลล์สร้างเส้นใยที่เพาะเลี้ยงจากเหงือกด้วยสารเอ็มทีทีและการย้อมเซลล์ด้วยสีเมทิลีนบลู แสดงระดับความเป็นพิษอย่างมีนัยสําคัญที่ความเข้มข้นเดียวกันของฟลูออไรด์ (100 พีพีเอ็ม, p<0.05) และในทํานองเดียวกัน ผลจากการวัดความเป็นพิษทั้งสองวิธี แสดงระดับความ เป็นพิษของไฮโดรเจนเพอร์ออกไซด์ต่อเซลล์สร้างเส้นใยที่เพาะเลี้ยงจากเนื้อเยื่อโพรงฟันที่ระดับความเข้มข้น ≥ 25 ไมโครโมลาร์ เช่นเดียวกัน (p<0.05) สรุป วิธีการย้อมเซลล์ด้วยสีเมทิลีนบลูให้ผลในการวัดความเป็นพิษไม่แตกต่างกันกับวิธีการมาตรฐานที่วัดผลด้วยสารเอ็มทีที

การหยุดยั้งการลุกลามของรอยผุเริ่มแรกของฟลูออไรด์วานิชในเด็กก่อนวัยเรียน, อรุณี ลายธีระพงศ์, สุภาพรณ์ จงวิศาล

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาผลการใช้ฟลูออไรด์วานิชดูราแฟต ในการหยุดยั้งการลุกลามของรอยผุเริ่มแรกในฟันหน้า น้ํานมบนในเด็กก่อนวัยเรียน เมื่อทาทุก 3 เดือน เป็นเวลา 1 ปี วัสดุและวิธีการ ประชากรตัวอย่าง ได้แก่ เด็กอายุ 2.5-5 ปี (อายุเฉลี่ย 3.5 ปี) จํานวน 160 คน (ชาย 90 คน และหญิง 70 คน) ที่มีฟันตัดข้างน้ํานมบนด้านขวา (หรือซ้าย) ผุในระยะเริ่มแรก โดยแบ่งเป็นกลุ่มทดลองและ กลุ่มควบคุมกลุ่มละ 80 คน มีค่าเฉลี่ยฟันน้ํานมผุ ถอน อุด เท่ากับ 3.60 และ 3.69 ซี่/คน ตามลําดับ กลุ่มทดลอง ได้รับการทาดูราแฟตบนฟันหน้าน้ํานมบนทุก 3 เดือน ส่วนกลุ่มควบคุมได้รับการทาน้ําสะอาดแทน เปรียบเทียบ ความแตกต่างของการลุกลามต่อของรอยผุเริ่มแรกระหว่างกลุ่มด้วยสถิติไค-สแควร์ที่ระดับนัยสําคัญ 0.05 พบว่าตัวอย่างในกลุ่มทดลองมีการลุกลามต่อของรอยผุเริ่มแรกน้อยกว่ากลุ่มควบคุมร้อยละ 10.5 ซึ่ง ไม่มีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ ในขณะที่กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่มีอายุเท่ากับหรือต่ํากว่า 3.5 ปี จะมีการลุกลามต่อของรอยผุเริ่มแรก น้อยกว่า กลุ่มที่มีอายุมากกว่า 3.5 ปีอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ (p<0.01) และพบการลุกลามต่อของรอยผุเริ่มแรก ในกลุ่มตัวอย่างที่มีค่าเฉลี่ยฟันน้ํานมผุ ถอน อุดเท่ากับ 0-4 น้อยกว่า กลุ่มที่มีค่าเฉลี่ยฟันน้ํานมผุ ถอน อุดมากกว่า 4 อย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ (p<0.005) อีกด้วย ผลการศึกษา สรุป ฟลูออไรด์วานิชให้ผลในการหยุดยั้งการลุกลามต่อของรอยผุเริ่มแรกในฟันหน้าน้ํานมบนด้านริมฝีปากในกลุ่ม เด็กที่มีอายุน้อยกว่าหรือเท่ากับ 3.5 ปี และในกลุ่มที่มีค่าเฉลี่ยฟันน้ํานมผุ ถอน อุดเท่ากับ 0-4 อย่างมีนัยสําคัญ ทางสถิติ เมื่อทาทุก 3 เดือน เป็นเวลา 1 ปี

Genetic suppressor elements (GSEs) are short biologically active gene fragments that encode inhibitory antisense RNAs or truncated proteins that function as negative dominants. GSEs can be constructed from a single gene or isolated from a multigene library consisting of short random fragments of the target gene or genes. I attempted to determine whether the patterns of seedling establishment described in the literature for forests and recently abandoned oldfields are maintained in fields sixty years after abandonment. To determine this distribution pattern, as well as to compare patterns of age and density distribution in upland and lowland oldfields, I conducted research at Mammoth Cave National Park. I studied three species, the seeds of which are dispersed by three different modes: Juniperus virginiana, a predominantly bird-dispersed species; Acer rubrum, a predominantly winddispersed species; and Fagus grandifolia, a predominantly mammal-dispersed species. Class A scavenger receptors (SR-A) mediate the uptake of modified low density lipoprotein (LDL) by macrophages. Although not typically associated with the activation of intracellular signaling cascades, results with peritoneal macrophages indicate that the SR-A ligand acetylated LDL (AcLDL) promotes activation of cytosolic kinases and phospholipases. These signaling responses were blocked by the treatment of cells with pertussis toxin (PTX) indicating that SR-A activates G_i/o-linked signaling pathways. The functional significance of SR-A-mediated G_i/o activation is not clear. In this study, we investigated the potential role of G_i/o activation in regulating SR-A-mediated lipoprotein uptake. Gene therapy by direct delivery of plasmid DNA has several advantages over viral gene transfer, but plasmid delivery is less efficient. In vivo electroporation has been used to enhance delivery of chemotherapeutic agents to tumors in both animal and human studies. Recently, this delivery technique has been extended to large molecules such as plasmid DNA. Here, the successful delivery of plasmids encoding reporter genes to rat hepatocellular carcinomas by in vivo electroporation is demonstrated.

Center-Based Prevalence Of Anxiety And Depression In Women Of The Northern Areas Of Pakistan, Sunita Dodani, Rukhsana Wamiq Zuberi

Objective: To estimate the prevalence of anxiety and depression in women of the Northern areas. Methods: A cross-sectional center-based study was conducted at Singal Medical Center (SNIC), Gilgit, in the Northern Areas of Pakistan, using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS).

Results: One hundred and twenty women, between the ages of 16 and 60, attended the SMC over a two month period and were included in the study. Using HADS, it was found that 50% of the women had anxiety and/or depression; 25% suffered only from anxiety, 8% from depression and 17% had features of both.

As a result the utilization of health care system by African Americans has increased, improving the health status (Blendon, Aiken, Freeman, & Corey, 1989). While some improvements have been made, recent reports show disparities between African Americans and Caucasians in the utilization of health care systems and in their health status. Parenting A Second Time Around: An Ethnography Of African American Grandmothers Parenting Grandchildren Due To Parental Cocaine Abuse, Kristin Haglund

This study describes a group of six African American grandmothers parenting their grandchildren secondary to cocaine abuse on the part of the parents. It explores the manner in which such parenting affected the grandmothers’ health. Data for this ethnography design were collected through participant observation, field notes, taped interviews, and supplementary data sources. The identification of cultural themes evolved from domain and taxonomic analyses. The themes—parenting a second time around, sacrifice, and God’s presence in daily life—expressed aspects of the grandmothers’ culture. Factors accounting for long-term nonprogression may include infection with an attenuated strain of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1), genetic polymorphisms in the host, and virus-specific immune responses. In this study, we examined eight individuals with nonprogressing or slowly progressing HIV-1 infection, none of whom were homozygous for host-specific polymorphisms (CCR5-Δ32, CCR2-64I, and SDF-1-3^'A) which have been associated with slower disease progression. HIV-1 was recovered from seven of the eight, and recovered virus was used for sequencing the full-length HIV-1 genome; full-length HIV-1 genome sequences from the eighth were determined following amplification of viral …

This randomized dietary intervention trial examined the effects of a high fruit diet on systemic BP in African-Americans. Thirty-eight free-living subjects with systolic BPs between 130-159 mm Hg and diastolic BPs between 85-99 mm Hg, were enrolled for a six week period. The cases were given daily supplements of potassium rich foods: bananas, orange juice and raisins, while no dietary advice or food was given to the controls.

After six weeks, the means systolic BP was 5.79 mm Hg ( p=.009) lower in the cases than the controls. The mean diastolic BP at week six was 3.76 mm Hg (p=.047) …

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเปรียบเทียบความพึงพอใจของผู้ป่วยต่อบริการพยาบาลที่ ได้รับและจำนวนวันนอนในโรงพยาบาลก่อนและหลังการใช้มาตรฐานการปฏิบัติการพยาบาลผู้ป่วย โรคเบาหวาน \nประชากร คือ ผู้ป่วยโรคเบาหวานที่รับไว้รักษา ณ หอผู้ป่วยใน โรงพยาบาลสมุทรสาคร กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ ผู้ป่วยโรคเบาหวานที่รับไว้รักษาในหอผู้ป่วยอายุรกรรมหญิง และหอผู้ป่วยอายุรกรรมชาย โรงพยาบาลสมุทรสาคร จำนวนทั้งสิ้น 75 คน (ก่อนการใช้มาตรฐานการพยาบาล 50 คน และหลังการใช้ มาตรฐานการพยาบาล 25 คน) การเลือกกลุ่มตัวอย่างเป็นแบบเฉพาะเจาะจง \nเครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยมี 4 ชุด ได้แก่ มาตรฐานการปฏิบัติการพยาบาลผู้ป่วยโรคเบาหวาน แบบสังเกตกิจกรรมการพยาบาล แบบสอบถามความพึงพอใจของผู้ป่วยต่อบริการพยาบาล และแบบบันทึก จํานวนวันนอนในโรงพยาบาล ซึ่งผ่านการตรวจสอบความตรงและความเที่ยงแล้ว \nผลการวิจัยพบว่า \n1. ความพึงพอใจของผู้ป่วยต่อบริการพยาบาล หลังการใช้มาตรฐานการปฏิบัติการพยาบาล ผู้ป่วยโรคเบาหวานสูงกว่าก่อนการใช้มาตรฐานการปฏิบัติการพยาบาลผู้ป่วยโรคเบาหวาน อย่างมีนัยสำคัญ \nทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05 \n2. จํานวนวันนอนในโรงพยาบาลลดลง หลังการใช้มาตรฐานการปฏิบัติการพยาบาลผู้ป่วย โรคเบาหวาน แต่ไม่มีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ
