Daring To Be Different: Promotion Of Child Development And Family Wellness In A Cash-Based Pediatric Occupational Therapy Practice, Kylee Withrow
Daring To Be Different: Promotion Of Child Development And Family Wellness In A Cash-Based Pediatric Occupational Therapy Practice, Kylee Withrow
Occupational Therapy Capstone Presentations
Providing optimal support for a pediatric client requires a family-centered, relationship-based approach from occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs). A child’s developmental challenges often impact family relationships, routines, and community-based occupational participation. OTPs are in a unique position to use their holistic lens and expansive training to support families beyond direct, 1:1 intervention. There is also a growing collection of evidence supporting developmental models, instead of behavioral approaches, to support children with development and occupational challenges and cultivate a lasting impact. This project explored how family education, community events, and the application of DIRFloortime® in a pediatric cash-based clinic could adequately support …

Mortality In Medicine, Maren Dougherty
Mortality In Medicine, Maren Dougherty
Honors Projects
Practitioners in the medical field attend to health issues across one’s lifespan from birth to death and everything in between. A common conflict in today’s practice of medicine is establishing the true function of medicine. The complete reliance on medicine to ward off death proliferates the biomedicalization of natural life processes, like death. Biomedicalization is the process in which medical authority and its accompanying technology begin to control other aspects of daily life. With medicine’s ultimate goal being to cure disease and fight death, it interferes with the inevitability of human mortality. End-of-life treatment can be taken too far without …

Successful Application Of Craniosacral Therapy In A Case Of Acute Ptosis Following A Covid-19 Infection., Efterpi Rompoti
Journal of Transformative Touch
This case study offers a unique insight on the effectiveness of CranioSacral therapy (CST) in a 49 year old woman experiencing an acute stage of a viral infection (Covid-19) causing a partial left Oculomotor nerve palsy. A CST glial/Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) specific protocol was utilised over 2 consecutive days. The patient recovered fully after 5 days. The results of this particular case can open up the possibility of utilising CST more widely in treating cranial nerve palsies following a viral infection to support the healing process and the functional restoration.
