Diastolic Dysfunction: Pathogenesis, Therapy Andthe Importance Of Doppler Echocardiography, Fati̇h Yalçin, James Thomas

Diastolic dysfunction is characterized by increased resistance to ventricular filling, inappropriate upward shift of the diastolic pressure-volume relationship and exercise intolerance. Inappropriate tachycardia, decreased diastolic compliance and impaired systolic relaxation lead to diastolic dysfunction. Optimal therapy will depend on the type and pathophysiologic phase of disease. Doppler echocardiography is a valuable tool to diagnose diastolic dysfunction and therapeutic effects of drugs on diastolic function in different groups of patients. Recently a lot of studies have been going on this subject.

The vitamin D receptor (VDR), a member of the nuclear receptor superfamily, is an integral part of the body's calcium regulatory system. Mammalian and avian VDR genes were isolated, sequenced and characterized. In this study we cloned the vitamin D receptor from amphibians. We received a cDNA library prepared from amphibian (frog) tissues and prepared a cDNA probe based on the avian VDR. We screened the library and located the positive clones. The aim of this study was to con-struct a plasmid that would direct the expres-sion of a bacterial DNA methyltransferase in cultured mammalian cells. It was carried out with a PCR-based strategy for introducing three components' coding sequences into the transfection vector pcDNA 3 (Invitrogen). The gene encoding the bacterial cytosine specific DNA methyltransferase M. Msp1 was first introduced into the general cloning vector pMTL23. The effects of diets containing 2% and 4% calcium (Ca) on deoxycorticosteron (DOC) salt hypertension were studied in 29 male rats weighting 210-260 g. Rats were categorized into four groups: Group I: control rats (6), group II: DOC hypertensive group (n=8), group III: DOC-low Ca diet (2% CaCl 2 ) (8) and group IV: DOC-high Ca diet (4% CaCl_2 ) (n=7). We evaluated the effect of nifedip-ine, an L-type voltage sensitive Ca+2 channel (VSCC) blocker, on the onset of neuronal damage induced by transient ischemia of guinea pig retinas in vivo. The animals were divided into two groups. In the first group 2 mg/kg Nifedipine was administered intraperi-toneally, while only 2 cc/kg NaCl 0.9% solution was given to the second group thirty minutes before the ischemic insult. Seven days after the temporary ligation of bilateral common carotid arteries for 45 minutes, the animals were dispatched and the eyes were enucleated for histopathologic analysis. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the potential teratogenic effects of electromagnetic fields on the skeletal systems of rat fetuses. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty-five pregnant rats, which had been exposed to electromagnetic fields with frequencies of vertical 50 Hz and horizontal 20 kHz and a total maximum intensity of 10 milligauss, during their pregnancies, were the study group, while 15 pregnant rats were the control group. This study was carried out on a representative sample consisting of 429 households in Gaziantep. The prevalance of diseases with diarrhoea was found to be 22.9% among children under five years old in the two weeks preceding the survey. It was observed that 51.3% of children with diarrhoea were taken to a medical facility, the mean duration of the diarrhoea was 4.5±3.8 days, and the rate of children with diarrhoea during the preceding 24 hours was 11.8%. There is no ideal surgical technique for cervical spondylosis. The choice of surgical procedure remains controversial. A series of 25 patients who had undergone subtotal vertebrectomy and iliac bone fusion between 1985 and 1995 were reviewed. There were 19 men and 6 women with an average age of 55.6 years. All of the patients had cervical myelopathy and /or radiculopathy due to multi-level spondylosis and 7 with associated ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament. The anatomical variations of the brachial plexus in human have clinical significance to surgeons, radiologists and anatomists. We studied some variations in the formation of 130 brachial plexuses in sixty-five infant cadavers (34 males, 31 females; aged 1-7 days). The brachial plexus consisted of the 5 th , 6 th , 7 th , and 8 th cervical spinal nerves and 1 st thoracic spinal nerve (69.23%). In this study, we evaluated metabolic changes and the effects of flutamide in 22 women with PCOS. Flutamide was administered for a 6-month period in a dose of 750 mg/day. The basal and after treatment body mass index, waist: hip ratio, blood glucose, insulin, lipids, Ferriman-Gallwey scoring (FGS), gonadotropins, testosterone, trasaminazed and glucose: insulin (G:I) ratio were measured. The t(8;21) between the AML1 and ETO genes is a commonly seen genetic alteration in acute myeloid leukemia. Recently, we reported that the fusion partner ETO binds to the human nuclear receptor co-repressor (NCOR), a member of the NCOR/SIN3/histone deacetylase complex. This complex mediates transcriptional repression as a result of chromatin remodeling. Here, we used a combination of fluorescence in situ hybridization and hybrid panels to localize the human NCOR gene (NCOR) to chromosome band 17p11.2. The position of human NCOR on 17p11 raises the possibility of deranged transcriptional regulation in malignant disorders associated with deletions of 17p.

In Madin-Darby canine kidney D1cells extracellular nucleotides activate P2Y receptors that couple to several signal transduction pathways, including stimulation of multiple phospholipases and adenylyl cyclase. For one class of P2Y receptors, P2Y2 receptors, this stimulation of adenylyl cyclase and increase in cAMP occurs via the conversion of phospholipase A2 (PLA2)-generated arachidonic acid (AA) to prostaglandins (e.g. PGE2). These prostaglandins then stimulate adenylyl cyclase activity, presumably via activation of prostanoid receptors. In the current study we show that agents that increase cellular cAMP levels (including PGE2, forskolin, and the β-adrenergic agonist isoproterenol) can inhibit P2Y receptor-promoted AA release. Las infecciones del tracto reproductivo (ITR) son frecuentes en Zimbabwe. Muchas de estas infecciones aumentan el riesgo de contraer el virus de inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH). En 1998, el Consejo Nacional de Planificación Familiar de Zimbabwe (en inglés, ZNFPC) realizó un estudio de IO para evaluar la viabilidad de integrar el diagnóstico y tratamiento de ITR en su oferta de servicios.
