Asphyxia in newborns is a common and serious cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality nationally and internationally. Risk factors for asphyxia can be seen from maternal and infant factors. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors in mothers and infants and to analyze which factors have the most influence on asphyxia. This study is a quantitative analytical study with a case-control approach. The number of case samples was 53 infants who experienced asphyxia and 53 control (1:1) infants so that the total sample was 106 infants. Vaccination is a disease prevention method recommended by the WHO as it will reduce disease severity, mortality rate and risks. The objective of this study is to discover the impact of COVID-19 vaccination against COVID-19 mortality rate in Indonesia. This was a retrospective cohort research on the data from the NAR COVID-19 database and the KPCPEN COVID-19 Dashboard of the Depok City Health Department from May 2020-February 2023. We performed a Cox proportional hazard analysis to obtain the risk for death. We discovered that COVID-19 vaccination reduced the mortality until it was less than 10% of unvaccinated population (0,24% for …

Jurnal Epidemiologi Kesehatan Indonesia
Tanzania is endemic to malaria and pregnant women due to their vulnerability are among the high-risk groups. The adoption of malaria interventions targeted to pregnant women is affected by a number of factors. A cross-sectional study using secondary data from Tanzania Demographic Health Survey (TDHS) for 2022 was used. A logistic regression was used for bivariate analysis to identify factors affecting the adoption of malaria interventions during pregnancy in Tanzania. Data from pregnant women between 15 to 49 years (N=1408) were analyzed in this study. Insecticide treated nets (ITNs) and intermittent preventive therapy in pregnancy using sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (IPTp-SP) were the …

The Effect Of Annona Muricata Leaves’ Extract On Wnt Signaling Pathway In Induced Colorectal Cancer In Mice, Layane Massri, Jamilah Borjac, Alaa Matar, Dania Natour
BAU Journal - Science and Technology
Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a significant global health issue. The Wnt signaling pathway, activated by mutations in APC and β-catenin genes, plays a crucial role in CRC development, leading to the activation of inflammatory pathways involving COX-2 and iNOS, as well as the continuous transcription of cell cycle-related genes promoting CRC pathogenesis. Annona muricata (A. muricata), a tropical tree with various biological activities, including anti-cancerous properties, was investigated for its potential effect on mice induced with colon cancer using 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH, 20 mg/kg) over 12 weeks, and treated with oral A. muricata extract (100 mg/kg, 5 days/week).
Methods: Histopathological …

A study was conducted to assess the use of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) by dentists in Virginia and the factors influencing its adoption. The survey revealed that recent dental school graduates and those with adequate training were more likely to use SDF. SDF is valued for its ability to arrest caries and provide a minimally invasive treatment option, especially for patients with behavioral issues or severe dental anxiety. However, its use is deterred by concerns over aesthetics and effectiveness. The study highlights the need for increased training and better reimbursement to encourage wider adoption of SDF among dentists in Virginia.

Most Americans rely on Social Security for retirement support, but many do not fully understand the implications of when to start receiving benefits. Claiming benefits early at age 62 can reduce the overall amount, while delaying can increase it by 8% annually. Factors like health, life expectancy, and income needs should be considered. Full retirement age is between 66 and 67 for most. Widows and divorced individuals may be eligible for additional benefits. Consulting with an advisor is recommended to optimize Social Security benefits.

Introduction. Surgical site infection (SSI) is a significant concern following digestive surgery, with varying incidence rates based on wound contamination levels. The choice between Primary Closure (PC) and Delayed Primary Closure (DPC) impacts SSI occurrence, making it essential to evaluate their comparative effectiveness. DPC is hypothesized superior to PC to prevent SSI or wound infection after a contaminated abdominal surgery.
Methods. This systematic review study was carried out through PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane (CENTRAL). Quality was assessed using Risk of Bias (ROB-2) tool. All results were summarized, and quantitative analysis was performed using a random-effect model. This study …

C-Reactive Protein As An Early Predictor Of Anastomosis Leakage After Colorectal Surgery: A Literature Review, Lucky Permana, Ridho A. Syaiful
The New Ropanasuri Journal of Surgery
Introduction. Anastomosis leakage is a defect in the intestinal wall at the anastomosis site after surgery. This condition is a serious complication causing increased morbidity and mortality. CRP is commonly used as an acute postoperative indicator after abdominal surgery. The use of CRP as an early predictor of anastomosis leakage after colorectal surgery is supported by several studies showing its good diagnostic value. However, using CRP as a biomarker is not standard at Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital. Therefore, this literature review aims to support the evidence for CRP in the early detection of anastomosis leakage after colorectal surgery.
