การวิเคราะห์หาปริมาณฟลูออไรด์ทั้งหมดในยาสีฟัน โดยวิธี Acid Diffusion, ต่อถาวร จันทามงคล, บุญชัย พรหมยารัตน์, รังสรรค์ จิรังษีวัฒนา, จีรศักดิ์ นพคุณ

การวิเคราะห์หาปริมาณฟลูออไรด์ทั้งหมดที่ผสมอยู่ในยาสีฟัน โดยวิธี acid diffusion ด้วยการใช้ กรดเพอร์คลอริก (4.6 M perchloric acid) เป็นตัวสกัดฟลูออไรด์ออกมาจากยาสีฟัน ที่อุณหภูมิปกติของห้องปฏิบัติการ โดยมี hexamethyldisiloxane เป็นตัวเร่งปฏิกิริยา พบว่าวิธีการวิเคราะห์โดยวิธีนี้ สามารถสกัดฟลูออไรด์ ออกมาจากสารละลายที่ใช้ในการทดสอบได้ร้อยละ 95.1 ± 3.2 ของปริมาณฟลูออไรด์มาตรฐานที่เติมลงไปในสารละลาย ปริมาณยาสีฟันที่เหมาะสมที่จะนํามาใช้ในการวิเคราะห์โดยวิธีนี้เท่ากับ 0.5 กรัม จากการวิเคราะห์ หาปริมาณฟลูออไรด์ทั้งหมดในยาสีฟันจํานวน 11 ชนิด พบว่าปริมาณฟลูออไรด์ที่ผสมอยู่ในยาสีฟันที่ได้จากการวิเคราะห์โดยวิธี acid diffusion ส่วนใหญ่ไม่มีความแตกต่างกันในทางสถิติ (P > 05) กับปริมาณฟลูออไรด์ที่คํานวณได้ จากน้ำหนักร้อยละของฟลูออไรด์ที่ผสมอยู่ในยาสีฟัน

การศึกษาวิธีวิเคราะห์หาฟลูออไรด์ไอออนในยาสีฟัน, ศิริพร โชติไพบูลย์พันธุ์, ศานตี เตชาภิประนัย, พิเชียร อังจันทร์เพ็ญ

จากการทดลองเปรียบเทียบวิธีหาปริมาณฟลูออไรด์ไอออน ในยาสีฟันที่ผสมโซเดียมฟลูออไรด์ แสตนนิสฟลูออไรด์ และโซเดียมโมโนฟลูออไรฟอสเฟต ด้วยวิธีต่าง ๆ กัน 6 วิธี โดยอาศัยเครื่องวัดปริมาณไอออน (Ionalyzer) และ ฟลูออไรด์อิเล็คโตรด พบว่ายาสีฟันที่ผสมโซเดียมฟลูออไรด์ และแสตนนัสฟลูออไรด์ ได้ผลใกล้เคียงกันทุกวิธี แต่วิธี Modifired TIS AB ซึ่งได้คิดดัดแปลงขึ้น สามารถทําได้ผลดี สะดวก รวดเร็วและประหยัดกว่า ส่วนยาสีฟันที่ผสม โซเดียมโมโนฟลูออโรฟอสเฟต (MFP) เหมาะที่จะใช้วิธีของ Pearce ซึ่งผลที่ ได้จะมีค่าสูงกว่าเล็กน้อย

The median lethal dose (LD50) of local anaesthetics in mice was determined by the method of Reed & Muench. No statistical difference (P < 0.05) was found in comparing the (LD50) of the four commonly-used local anaesthetic preparations; they were lidocaine 2%, lidocaine 2% with adrenaline 1:80,000, lidocaine 2% with noradrenaline 1:50,000 and prilocaine 3% with felypressin 0.03 IU. It is suggested therefore that, in mice, the (LD50) of these local anaesthetics are comparable. However, lidocaine 2% with noradrenaline 1:50,000 had a wider therapeutic index, therefore it could be the safest local anaesthetic among the other three drugs.

Ludwig's angina เป็นการอักเสบที่เกิดขึ้นอย่างเฉียบพลัน รุนแรง ที่บริเวณใต้ขากรรไกร (submandibular), ใต้คาง (submental) และใต้ลิ้น (sublingual) การอักเสบนี้มักกระจายหาขอบเขตไม่ได้ และเป็นทั้ง 2 ข้าง ปัจจุบันพบได้ไม่บ่อยนัก เนื่องจากมียาปฏิชีวนะที่ดี สาเหตุของการอักเสบนี้ส่วน ใหญ่เกิดจากฟัน ในรายงานฉบับนี้ได้กล่าวถึง ผู้ป่วย 2 รายที่มารับการรักษาที่โรงพยาบาลชลบุรี เนื่องจากมีอาการบวมที่บริเวณใต้ขากรรไกร คอและพื้นช่องปาก ได้ให้การวินิจฉัยว่าเป็น Ludwigs angina ซึ่งมีสาเหตุมาจากการติดเชื้อของ ฟันกรามล่างขวา ซี่ที่ 1 (# 46) ได้ให้การรักษาโดยให้ยาปฏิชีวนะในขนาดสูง เจาะคอ และใส่ท่อหายใจเพื่อป้องกันการอุดตันของทางเดินหายใจ กรีดระบายหนอง (Incision and drainage) และถอนฟันที่เป็นสาเหตุออก

การใช้น้ำยาทําลายเชื้อในรอยพิมพ์ปาก, ประเวศ เสรีเชษฐพงษ์, ศรีวรพงษ์ พงษ์สถิตย์

เนื่องจากรอยพิมพ์เป็นสื่อที่อาจจะนําเชื้อโรคจากปากของผู้ป่วยมาสู่แบบจําลองได้ ดังนั้น ทุกรอยพิมพ์จึงควร ได้รับการทําลายเชื้อ รอยพิมพ์ชนิดโพลีซัลไฟด์ (polysulfide) ซิลิโคน (Silicone) โพลีอีเทอร์ (polyether) ซิงค์ออกไซด์ยูจินอล (zinc oxide eugenol) จะถูกทําลายเชื้อได้ดีโดยใช้น้ำยาสําหรับฆ่าเชื้อ และเมื่อได้ใช้น้ำยาฆ่าเชื้อแล้ว แบบจําลองยังคงมีขนาด รูปร่าง (dimensional stability) และรายละเอียด (surface detail sharpness) ที่ถูกต้องเหมือนเดิม ส่วนรอยพิมพ์ที่ใช้วัสดุชนิดไฮโดรคอลลอยด์ชนิดผันกลับได้และผันกลับไม่ได้ (reversible and irreversible hydrocolloid) คอมพาวด์ (impression compound) จะใช้น้ำยาฆ่าเชื้อไม่ได้ดีเพราะแบบจําลองที่ได้จะมีขนาดและรายละเอียดเปลี่ยนไป

A fortunate coincidence, discovered recently, has provided annual ryegrass toxicity researchers with valuable knowledge which may help them understand how the ARGT toxins affect animals, and further their investigations into vaccine development. A toxic antibiotic, identified years ago, has proved to be closely related to the ARGT toxins. Antibiotics are generally regarded as effective agents for the control of many bacterial and fungal infections. However, some of them are toxic to both the bacteria and the host, whether man or animal.

Leptospirosis is best known in Western Australia as an insidious cause of abortion in pigs and cattle. Less well known is the fact that leptospirosis can occur in any warm blooded animal, including man, and that farmers, meat workers and veterinarians frequently risk infection. The disease is difficult to diagnose but research in the Microbiology Section of the Department of Agriculture's Animal Health Laboratory has resulted in the development of a new test which overcomes some of these difficulties

Effects Of Various Hormones On Human Carcinoma Cell Proliferation, Y. L. Gao, B. S. Leung, A. H. Potter, W.C.Y. Yu

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

Cell proliferation of a mammary adenocarcinoma cell line, CAMA-1. is affected by a number of steroid hormones and prolactin in long-term cultures. Estrogenic compounds stimulate cell growth while antiestrogenic compounds inhibit it. Prolactin can synergize the estrogenic effect. Progesterone, glucocorticoid or androgen reduce cell proliferation. Dihydrotestosterone is a very potent inhibitor,- effective at as low as 10 nM, and its effect is independent of estrogen action. Cortisol is a less effective inhibitor at concentrations below 10 nM; at these levels cortisol exhibits a slight inhibition which appears to be unrelated to estrogenic action. Reported animal rabies in Arkansas is reviewed for the years 1950-81 . Total cases ranged from 44 in 1969 to 332 in 1979, with a mean of 154. Domestic animals accounted for 72.5% of the total cases until 1961-63 and then declined to 15.8% from 1964-81. This switch from domestic to wildlife rabies corresponded to a similar trend in nationally reported rabies and was probably due to increased public awareness and the vaccination of domestic dogs and cats. In the early 1970s, when beef cattle numbers increased in the South West, worms came to be recognised as the cause of one of the most significant health problems affecting production. The disease ostertagiosis, caused by the brown stomach worm, Ostertagia ostertagi, started to occur regularly, but the anthelmintics available at the time were limited in their efficiency against the parasite. Because little was known of the epidemiology of ostertagiosis under local conditions, recommendations for control were based on observations made elsewhere in Australia and overseas. These were unsuited to local conditions and did not provide adequate control.
