Myofascial trigger point (MTrP) is a quite common painful muscular disorder in clinical practice. When an MTrP is mechanically stimulated (needling or snapping palpation), a local twitch response (LTR) can be elicited, which is one of the characteristics of MTrP. Recent studies on humans and rabbits suggest that an MTrP is at the endplate zone. The purpose of this study is to map the distribution of sensitive loci from which an LTR can be elicited by mechanical stimulation of it in rat skeletal muscle. Electrical injuries, compared to fire or scald burns, occur infrequently but often result in amputations causing disabilities. A retrospective study was undertaken to present some statistical data and determine the correlation of serum creatinine kinase (CK) level and creatine kinase myocardial band isoenzyme (CK-MB) level with treatment, morbidity and outcome. From January 1995 to December 1996, thirty-six electrical burn patients were admitted to our hospital. Thirty-four of these patients were men and two were women, and the mean age was 31.3 years old. จากการนำม้าน้ำ (Hippocampus kuda) จำนวน 55 ตัวอย่างซึ่งมีอายุตั้งแต่ 3 เดือนถึง 1 ปีที่เลี้ยงใน ห้องปฏิบัติการ มาศึกษาเพื่อหาสาเหตุของโรคที่ทําให้ม้าน้ำป่วยและตาย พบว่าเกิดเนื่องจากแบคทีเรีย แกรมลบในสกุลวิบริโอเป็นส่วนใหญ่ เช่น V. alginolyticus, V. anguillarum, V. fluvialis และ V. vulnificus รวมทั้งเชื้อวิบริโอชนิดอื่น ๆ โดยโรคจากแบคทีเรียในกลุ่มนี้ จะสามารถทําให้ม้าน้ำตายได้อย่างรวดเร็วครั้งละหลายตัว

Cerebrovascular accidents often produce alterations in the ability to control movement. Recovery of impaired motor function varies with the individual. We studied the correlation between the location as well as the size of lesions and the prognosis for motor recovery. Magnetic Resonance Images (MRI) of the brain were done in stroke patients with cortical, or subcortical infarcts or hemorrhage within 0.5 to 1.5 (mean 0.9±0.25) months after a stroke. The muscle tone, motor recovery and activities of daily living of the patients were assessed by a modified Ashworth scale, Brunnstrom’s recovery stage and functional independence measure (FIM) respectively. The accessory deep peroneal nerve is a common anatomical variation in innervating the extensor digitorum brevis (EDB) muscle of the foot. Awareness of this anomaly is important in electrodiagnostic study of peroneal nerve lesions. One hundred healthy Taiwanese, including 50 men and 50 women, were tested for the presence of an accessory deep peroneal nerve by an electrodiagnostic method. The presence of a visible EDB twitch and an amplitude of the evoked muscle action potential of 0.2 mV or greater upon stimulation of the accessory deep peroneal nerve were taken as positive findings. In clinical prosthetic experience, profuse sweating was a major problem when conventional sockets or inserts were used. However, the newly developed silicon suction socket could prevent that. We doubted that these differences came from the different nature of the silicon, pelite and polyethylene. So using the starch iodine sweating test, the forearm skins of the twenty normal subjects were sealed with a piece of 2cm×2cm×0.3cm silicon, pelite or polyethylene respectively. Surprisingly, not only silicon but also pelite and polyethylene could inhibit sweating. This meant that decreased sweating of the silicon suction socket might not be due to the chemical property …

Osteoporosis in post-menopausal woman is a common cause of vertebrae compression fracture, which causes pain, activity limitation, even prolonged bed rest and total dependenty activities for daily life. Treatment of osteoporosis induced fracture includes NSAIDs for pain relief, body jacket for support and supplements of vitamin D, calcium, calcitonin or hormone replacement therapy.This is a casereport of a female with osteoporosis related T11 and L2 compression fracture with a 60° kyphosis at the thoracic vertebrae region and 40° lordosis at the lumbar vertebrae region which makes the ordinary Taylor brace unsatisfactory to give this patient adequate support for ambulation. Recurrent myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) may be caused by or associated with chronic soft tissue lesion(s) which can not be easily identified. We hereby report a case of recurrent myofascial trigger points in the upper back muscles, which were successfully controlled after one treatment of cervical facet injection.This patient was a 40-year-old man who had suffered from chronic left upper back pain and soreness with tingling sensation and back stiffness for six months. การกระตุ้นรังไข่ในลูกโคด้วยฮอร์โมน เอฟ เอส เอช ซ้ำหลายครั้ง, รังสี อดุลยานุภาพ, มงคล เตชะกำพุ, ชัยณรงค์ โลหชิต

ทำการกระตุ้นรังไข่ลูกโคพื้นเมืองไทยอายุ 4-6 เดือน จำนวน 10 ตัว ด้วยฮอร์โมน เอฟ เอส เอช ขนาด 192 มก. (NIH-FSH-P1) โดยฉีดเข้ากล้ามทุก 12 ชม. ติดต่อกัน 4 วัน (32/32,24/24,24/24,16/16) ในวัน สุดท้ายของการฉีดกระตุ้น ฉีดฮอร์โมนฮิวแมนคอริโอนิก โกนาโดโทรปิน (เอช ซี จี) ขนาด 500 ไอยู 24 ชม. ต่อมาดูดเก็บโอโอไซต์ด้วยการเปิดผ่าช่องท้องหลังทําให้ลูกโคสลบด้วยไทโอเพนโตน โซเดียม จากนั้นทำการทดลองฉีดฮอร์โมนกระตุ้นซ้ำ ครั้งที่ 2, 3 และ 4 ห่างกันครั้งละ 6-8 สัปดาห์ แบ่งโอโอไซต์ออกเป็น 2 ชนิดคือ โอโอไซต์ที่เจริญพร้อมปฏิสนธิและโอโอไซต์ที่เจริญไม่พร้อมปฏิสนธิ จากการศึกษาพบว่าค่าเฉลี่ยของการ ตอบสนองของรังไข่จากการฉีดกระตุ้นซ้ำ 4 ครั้งมีค่าเฉลี่ยเท่ากับ 32.2±3.0 ใบ/ครั้ง/ตัว และมีแนวโน้มลดลง จากการกระตุ้นครั้งแรกจนถึงครั้งที่ 4 (P<0.05) เท่ากับ 46.1±8.8, 28.6±3.6, 26.4±3.5 และ 27.7±5.1ใบ/ครั้ง/ตัว ตามลำดับ จำนวนโอโอไซต์ที่เก็บได้ทั้งหมด เท่ากับ 704 ใบจาก 1,274 ฟอลลิเคิล เฉลี่ย 17.6+1.8 ใบ/ครั้ง/ตัว คิดเป็นอัตราการเก็บโอโอไซต์ เท่ากับ 55.2% โดยมีแนวโน้มลดลงจากการเก็บครั้งแรกจนถึงครั้งที่ 4 (P<0.05) 23±5.0, 16.8±3.0, 15.2±1.5 15.4±3.6 ใบ/ครั้ง/ตัว ตามลำดับ ผลการศึกษาแสดงว่าสามารถฉีดกระตุ้นรังไข่ ลูกโคพื้นเมืองไทยก่อนวัยเจริญพันธุ์ได้ด้วยฮอร์โมนโกนาโดโทรปินได้หลายครั้ง ทั้งสามารถเก็บโอโอไซต์ได้ผลดีโดยวิธีการเปิดผ่าช่องท้อง

A urinary bladder mass was diagnosed in a 14-year-old uncastrated male mixed breed dog presented to the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University. The dog had periodic hematuria which had been present for eight months without any abnormalities on complete blood count and all other blood chemistry. Radiographic examination revealed a prostate gland enlargement with evidence of irregular thickening of the urinary bladder mucosa without any cystic calculi. โรคสมองฟ้ามหรือโคบ้า (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, BSE) เป็นโรคระบาดร้ายแรงที่เกิดขึ้นในสหราชอาณาจักรเป็น ส่วนใหญ่ ทำความเสียหายทางเศรษฐกิจอย่างมหาศาล จำเป็นต้องทําลายโคถึง 1 ล้านตัวเพื่อกำจัด BSE ให้หมดไป ยิ่งไปกว่านั้น BSE อาจ เป็นอันตรายแก่สุขภาพและชีวิตมนุษย์ด้วย BSE เป็นโรคหนึ่งในกลุ่ม transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) โดยมี prion protein เป็นสารก่อโรคที่ทําความเสียหายแก่ระบบประสาท และทำให้คนหรือสัตว์ตายในที่สุด พบเนื้อสมองทั้งส่วน cerebrum และ cerebellum เป็นรูพรุน และอาจพบ plaques และ scrapie-associated fibrils (SAF) ในเนื้อสมองด้วย การศึกษาทางระบาดวิทยาชี้แนะว่าการแพร่ของ BSE เกิดจากโคกินอาหารที่มีสารก่อโรคปนเปื้อนอยู่ และการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่ไม่เหมาะสมในกระบวนการแปรรูปโปรตีนจากซากสัตว์ เพื่อใช้เป็น อาหารเลี้ยงโคก็ช่วยเพิ่มปัจจัยเสี่ยงต่อการกระจายโรค BSE ด้วย prion protein อาจสะสมอยู่ในเลือด เส้นประสาทหรือระบบน้ำเหลืองของโคที่ เป็น BSE ก่อนที่จะกระจายไปสู่ระบบประสาทส่วนกลาง แต่เดิมพบเฉพาะสมอง ไขสันหลังและจอตาเท่านั้นที่ก่อให้เกิดโรค BSE ได้ ขณะนี้ กำลังรอผลที่ Spongiform Encephalopathy Advisory Committee (SEAC) ดำเนินการให้ตรวจเนื้อ น้ำนม อวัยวะระบบน้ำเหลืองจาก โคที่เป็น BSE โดยใช้ลูกโคเป็นสัตว์ทดลอง ซึ่งมีความไวกว่าการฉีดสารก่อโรคเข้าหนู mice ถึง 1,000 เท่า รายงานนี้ได้รวบรวมเหตุการณ์สำคัญ ระบาดวิทยา มาตรการควบคุมกำจัดและป้องกันโรค BSE และวิธีการตรวจวินิจฉัยโรคด้วยวิธีต่าง ๆ รวมทั้งแนวความคิดในการรักษา TSES ในอนาคตไว้ด้วย Creutzfeldt-Jakob's Disease (CJD) เป็นโรคเกี่ยวกับระบบประสาทในคนและเป็นโรคหนึ่งในกลุ่ม TSEs พบว่า new variant CJD (nvCJD) มีรอยโรคและอาการเฉพาะต่างไปจาก CJD เมื่อใช้เทคนิค Western …

ทำการสำรวจความชุกของการติดเชื้อไวรัสไข้สมองอักเสบโดยการตรวจแอนติบอดี้ต่อเชื้อไวรัสไข้ สมองอักเสบในซีรั่มสุกรพ่อแม่พันธุ์ ลูกสุกร และสุกรขุน ซึ่งสุ่มตรวจจากฟาร์มสุกรในเขตภาคกลางและภาค ตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของประเทศไทยรวมทั้งจังหวัดชลบุรีและประจวบคีรีขันธ์จำนวน 32 ฟาร์ม รวม 967 ตัวอย่างตั้งแต่ช่วงเดือนมกราคมถึงเดือนธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2538 พบสุกรกลุ่มพ่อแม่พันธุ์ที่มีแอนติบอดี้บ่งบอก อัตราการสัมผัสเชื้อไวรัส หรือความชุกของการติดเชื้อไวรัสดังกล่าวเฉลี่ยในช่วง 4 เดือนของฤดูกาล คือ พฤศจิกายน-กุมภาพันธ์ (ฤดูหนาว) มีนาคม-มิถุนายน ฤดูร้อน) และกรกฎาคม-ตุลาคม ฤดูฝน) เป็น 91.67%, 97.57% และ 99.25% ตามลำดับ ซึ่งระดับฮีแมกลูติเนชั่น-อินฮิบิชั่น แอนติบอดี้มีฐานนิยมอยู่ที่ 640 ใน แต่ละฟาร์มพบอัตราความชุกได้ตั้งแต่ 73.34%-100% โดยมีการกระจายของสุกรที่ตรวจพบแอนติบอดี้ส่วน ใหญ่อยู่ในแม่สุกรหลายท้อง ในกลุ่มลูกสุกรดูดนมและสุกรหลังหย่านม พบสุกรที่ตรวจพบแอนติบอดี้ จำนวน 95.49% และ 63.08% โดยมีฐานนิยมที่ 320 และ 10 ตามลำดับ ข้อมูลดังกล่าวแสดงถึงความชุก ของการติดเชื้อไวรัสไข้สมองอักเสบที่ปรากฎในพื้นที่ที่มีการเลี้ยงสุกรหนาแน่นดังกล่าวในปี พ.ศ. 2538
