A Rare Titin Gene Mutation Causing Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy In An Omani Individual, Kumayl Al-Lawati, Madan M. Maddali

Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a genetic disorder in which the interventricular septum is typically more severely hypertrophied compared to other segments of the myocardium. We report a 18-year-old woman who presented in 2024 to a tertiary cardiac care centre in Muscat, Oman, with a history of anterolateral accessory pathway ablation who developed burning chest pain after stress. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed generalised left ventricular hypertrophy with maximal thickness in the infero-lateral wall with mid-cavity obstruction. The symptoms necessitated bisoprolol and disopyramide treatment. As there was an increased risk of sudden cardiac death due to left ventricular wall thickness of more than 30 …

This study aimed to develop and validate the Burnout Scale for Assessing Stress in Healthcare Workers (BSAS-HCW), designed to measure cognitive and emotional exhaustion. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 245 Malaysian HCWs representing diverse roles, including staff nurses (57.7%), house officers (14.3%), medical officers (13.5%), specialists (5.7%), pharmacists (4.5%), and other HCWs. Exploratory factor analysis revealed a two-factor structure with strong internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha: cognitive = 0.95; emotional = 0.97), and all items loaded above …

Around 3.5 million preterm births occur in India annually, accounting for about 25% of all preterm births worldwide. Prematurity poses a significant burden world-wide but leaves a special impact on the families and health systems of low-socioeconomic countries where easy and universal access to adequate health services is compromised. Premature birth imposes a significant risk of neonatal death among all under-fives due to organ immaturity, sepsis, and respiratory distress syndrome. Efforts to address prematurity on a global scale involve a multifaceted approach, including improving access to quality prenatal care, enhancing neonatal care services, and implementing public health interventions to reduce …
