Mental health is a crucial aspect for adolescents, as those with poor mental health may experience conditions ranging from depression and anxiety disorders to suicidal tendencies. Identifying mental health issues is essential, necessitating an instrument to assess adolescent mental health. This study aims to adapt the Arabic Scale of Mental Health (ASMH) into Indonesian and evaluate its validity using the Rasch model. The adaptation process followed the Procedures and Guidelines for Translating Counselling Assessment as outlined by Lenz, Gómez Soler, Dell'Aquilla, and Uribe. The translated instrument was administered to 685 high school and vocational school students from Yogyakarta. The instrument …

Jurnal Kajian Bimbingan dan Konseling

Academic resilience has become an interesting topic of discussion as a result of the increase in academic burnout experienced by prospective counselors recently as a result of increasing academic assignments. Prospective counselors who experience academic burnout generally have poor academic resilience because they feel tired or bored with academic tasks while still studying, and this has an impact on the resulting performance. This research aims to determine the relationship between academic burnout and the academic resilience of prospective counselors. We used a quantitative research method, employing a correlation research design, to reveal the relationship between the two. The research sample …

Mom Is Back, Barbara Rollins Aug 2024

Mom Is Back, Barbara Rollins

Virginia Dental Journal

For several years Mission of Mercy (MOM) events were curtailed as the risks from COVID-19 outweighed the benefits of the free dental care provided by MOM. While COVID is still with us, the risks of delivering dental care in a large group setting were judged to be manageable by the Virginia Dental Association Foundation’s Board of Directors, and MOM project plans moved forward. As such, “MOM IS BACK!” became the rallying motto, and the number of MOM events increased to nine projects in 2022. Through those nine MOM (and Mini-MOM) projects, some 1,029 patients across the state received over $1.3 …

Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal

Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a rare form of non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis with unknown aetiology. It is recently recognised to be neoplastic with genetic mutations affecting the mitogen-activating protein kinase pathway. We report a 49-year-old female patient who initially presented in 2012 to a tertiary care centre in Muscat, Oman, with bilateral facial masses. These were removed but later recurred over a period of 10 years. She then presented with xanthelasmas, bone lesions, secondary infertility due to hypothalamic hypogonadism, diabetes insipidus and Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism. The facial masses were biopsied and they showed classic morphological features in the form of diffuse infiltration …

ePublications of Emerging Medical Research Scholars

Objective

Cigarette smoking remains a major health crisis in the United States, claiming the lives of hundreds of thousands of tobacco users each year. Access to evidence-based smoking cessation remains a challenge for many people that use tobacco products. Prior research demonstrates that the homeless population is exceedingly vulnerable to cigarette smoking and faces more barriers to quitting than their domiciled counterparts. This study explores the effectiveness of a free Smoking Cessation Clinic (SCC) within a homeless shelter for women and children, run by a nurse practitioner and a clinical nurse specialist trained as Tobacco Treatment Specialists, along with two …

Atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass grafting is a relatively well known complication that has been observed for a long time. Though the management and drugs in the perioperative period have changed, their impact on the generation of postoperative atrial fibrillation remains unclear. Therefore, we investigated various perioperative management methods and the occurrence of postoperative atrial fibrillation.

Methods

The patients underwent off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting between January 2010 and October 2019. The study was a retrospective observational study, and we investigated the incidence of atrial fibrillation during all 5 postoperative days. Patient factors included age, sex, height, …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

A native pony, eight years old and male, was tentatively diagnosed with abdominal pain and treated immediately. Sequential hematological profiles revealed increased levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and creatinine, as well as reduced albumin. After the pony's death, which occurred eight days after treatment began, a necropsy was performed. The liver's external surface showed small foci, but no gross lesion was observed in the pancreas, which was enlarged. Haematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining of the liver showed multifocal inflammation in the hepatic parenchyma, coinciding with bile duct hyperplasia. The pancreas H&E staining showed well-differentiated tubular glands with …

Cervical Lymphangiosarcoma In A Poodle Dog: Surgical Treatment And Chemotherapy, Minkyung Kim, Young-Hwan Kim, Jae-Eun Hyun

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

A 7-year-old neutered male Poodle exhibited a persistent caudoventral cervical mass with draining lesions characterized by chronic and relapsing features. Upon presentation, the mass measured 7 × 11 × 11.5 cm, containing sanguine fluid. Computed tomography revealed the diffuse extension of the cervical mass from the C3 level to the thoracic inlet, affecting the sternal lymph node. Extensive surgical removal was attempted with meticulous resection to avoid damaging the right jugular vein, carotid sheath, and vagus nerve within the mass. Histopathology and immunohistochemical staining for factor VIII confirmed the diagnosis of lymphangiosarcoma. Due to inadequate surgical margin excision, four cycles …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

This study examined the safety and productivity of a farrow-to-finish swine farm from 2015 to 2019, in Japan. The farm implemented a farm Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system in July 2016. The critical control point was “the selection of shipping pigs” and the critical limit for preventing contamination with residual antibiotics in pigs was “the withholding period has passed,” while that for preventing contamination with residual needle fragments was “the needle was not included.” No deviations from critical limits were observed, indicating the pigs were safe. In addition, the numerical goal of pigs born alive per litter …

Anatomical abnormalities of the trachea leading to respiratory distress. Few reports describe the morphological characterization of the dog’s trachea, particularly in the tracheal cartilaginous rings. In this study, twelve tracheas from mixed-breed dog cadavers were obtained to investigate their features across three anatomical tracheal regions: cervical, thoracic inlet, and intrathoracic trachea. The average length of the trachea was 18.92 ± 0.67 cm. Each trachea contained a different number of tracheal rings, ranging from 32 to 41 rings (37.42 ± 0.81 rings). A significant reduction in both outer transverse diameter (OTD) and outer vertical diameter (OVD) was observed from the cervical …

Although both C. burnetii and MAP infections have been reported in domestic ruminants worldwide, there is no data on their seroprevalence status among deer in Selangor, Malaysia. This study investigated the seroprevalence status of C. burnetii and MAP among deer in Malaysia. Ninety-two blood sera collected from an institutional deer farm were screened …
