Haplorchis taichui is a trematode that can mature in the small intestine of mammals and birds, including humans. Larval stages occur in various invertebrate and cold-blooded vertebrate hosts. The purpose of this study was to investigate parasite growth, including worm recovery rate, the body size of adult worms, eggs per worm and eggs per gram of feces and pathological changes of the small intestine in experimental hamsters. A novel membrane was previously found to be effective in preventing post-thoracotomy pleural adhesions in dogs. The aim of the present study was to verify the animals’ clinical condition, the biological fate of the residual membrane, the presence or absence of pleural adhesions, and any inflammatory reactions over a 10-week observation period following membrane implantation. The peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) belong to nuclear receptor superfamily acting as transcription factors related to lipid and glucose metabolism. There are 3 subtypes including PPARα, PPAR, and PPAR. PPARα and PPAR activations can inhibit tumor cell proliferation and differentiation in many cell types. Trichuris ovis (Nematoda: Trichuridae) is a widespread nematode that can infect a broad range of animal hosts, such as goats, sheep and oryx. This parasite is of vital importance as a pathogen, but its population genetics, molecular epidemiology and biology are still not well understood. Long-Term Effect Of Low-Dose Imatinib Therapy For Pulmonary Hypertension Due To Chronic Degenerative Mitral Valve Disease In Six Dogs, Zi Ping Leong, Shinji Arita, Yoshiaki Hikasa
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Six dogs were diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension (PH) secondary to chronic degenerative mitral valve disease (CDMVD) on echocardiography. Imatinib (3 mg/kg, every 24 hours, PO) was initiated without any changes to the background therapy to treat the PH. Follow-up evaluations at 1, 3, 5 and 6 months revealed substantial clinical and hemodynamic improvements. One dog showed deterioration after the imatinib withdrawal to necessitate a restart therapy. No side effects were observed throughout the 6-month treatment course. Low-dose imatinib may provide a promising treatment alternative for CDMVD-associated PH in dogs.

Absence of sexual dimorphism makes it difficult to determine bird’s sex. A number of both invasive and noninvasive methods as a DNA template of sampling for avian sexing can be used. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of different sources of DNA for avian sexing by PCR. Samples were collected from dried blood spots, buccal swabs, cloacal swabs and feces. The highest success rate for sexing determination was from the dried blood spots, accounting for 100%, while those from the buccal swabs, cloacal swabs and feces were 74%, 75.47% and 29.17%, respectively. Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) is one of the important pathogens which have economic impact on the poultry industry worldwide. Molecular characterization is the effective method to study the relation among international strains and the epidemiology of MG transmission. In this study, 17 Thai MG strains were characterized by using 2 molecular assays including random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and gene-targeted sequencing (GTS) assays. The overall goal of the current study was to show possibly mechanisms by which mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) or conditioned media (CM) exert immune-modulatory properties for amelioration of asthmatic changes. Male rats were classified into healthy (C) and ovalbumin-sensitized groups (S), which further were divided into three subgroups (n=6); rats given intratracheally PBS (CPT and SPT groups), CM (CST and SST groups) and MSCs (CCT and SCT groups). The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the localization of epithelial cadherin (E-cadherin) in the oviduct and uterine horn of swamp buffalo at the follicular and mid-luteal phases. E-cadherin is a transmembrane glycoprotein which plays a vital role in the mechanism of the maintenance epithelial architecture, cell growth and proliferation, cell to cell adhesion including cell to epithelium adhesion. The therapeutic efficacy of sulfadimethoxine-ormetoprim (SDMX-OMP) against Streptococcus agalactiae (S. agalactiae) infection in tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) was examined in tilapia fry. Fish (3+0.44 g) underwent 3-hour immersion challenge with 50% infective dose (2.58 x 106 CFU/ml) of S. agalactiae and were treated at 24 hours post challenge with daily dosages of 30 and 50 mg SDMX-OMP/kg body weight (BW) feeding medication for 7 days. The effects of an exogenous androgenic hormone on sex differentiation were examined in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and red tilapia (Oreochromis spp.) fry. Tilapia aquaculture in Thailand commonly applies methyltestosterone at the dose of 80 mg/kg diet on the first feeding of fish fry for 21-28 days to achieve male-monosex crop. This study aimed to compare the antimicrobial resistance patterns and DNA restriction patterns by PulsedField Gel Electrophoresis (PFGE) between Salmonella spp. isolated from broilers and pigs in Thailand and China. One hundred and sixty six isolates were collected from broilers and pigs at slaughterhouses in Khon Kaen, Thailand (n=106) between February to August 2017 and in Chongqing, China (n=60) between March to October 2015. This progressive neurodegenerative disease affects senior dogs, causes many behavioral changes and decreases welfare in both the dog and owner. This study was carried out on 24 healthy adult Chinese goose (Anser cygnoides) to determine normal electrocardiographic values and patterns in standard bipolar and augmented bipolar limb leads. The study between males and females was also performed to investigate changes in the electrocardiographic patterns related to sex. A regular sinus rhythm was observed in all birds. A nine year old intact male Miniature Pinscher weighing 4.8 kilogram was presented to veterinarian with signs of severe coughing and exercise intolerance. He was diagnosed of heart disease and previously described the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor and diuretic for a period of 6 months. Neither signs of syncope nor seizure was found. Degenerative mitral valve disease (DMVD) is a common finding of acquired heart diseases in small and medium-sized adult dogs. Transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) was found to increase in valves of DMVD dogs. However, plasma TGF-β1 concentrations in dogs with DMVD have not been evaluated before. The objective of the present study was to compare the plasma concentration of TGF-β1 between normal dogs and dogs with DMVD by using an ELISA technique. The aim of this study was to investigate risk factors for the seroprevalence of paratuberculosis in mature goats in Northeastern Thailand. The study area included Buriram, Chaiyaphum, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Mahasarakham, Nakhonratchasrima, Roi et, Sakon Nakhon, Srisaket, and Udonthani. The seroprevalence of paratuberculosis determined in 37 herds, a total of 671 serum samples, was 12.82%. The risk factors related to paratuberculosis were analyzed at individual level using mixed model logistic regression. At the individual level, 86 of 671 goats tested positive based on an ELISA assay. Removal of a GnRH agonist deslorelin implant either before or during ovulation in deslorelin-induced oestrous bitches is suggested because prolonged administration of the slow-release agonist may compromise luteal function secondary to pituitary down-regulation. This study aimed at investigating the effect of 4.7 mg deslorelin (Suprelorin®) on oestrous induction, ovulation and conception rate after removing the implant 72-96 hours postovulation to ensure that the entire ovulation process was complete. Globally, vertebral fracture and luxation (VFL) are one of the most common neurological injuries in dogs and cats. The objective of this study was to report the outcomes of surgical excision of feline squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)-affected nasal planum by using CO2 laser. Six cats histologically confirmed with SCC accounted for T2 (33.33%), T3 (33.33%), and T4 (33.33%) were included in this study. CO2laser was used to excise SCC lesion and clinical outcomes were followed up. The CO2 laser minimised blood loss during surgery and the mild inflammation of surgical wound was controlled after surgery. All cats that underwent surgical excision using CO2 laser showed complete wound healing in a median of time at 27 days after surgery. …

The aim of the present study was to construct a recombinant strain by using the probiotics Lactobacillus acidophilus expressing the epidermal growth factor (EGF), which can improve intestinal morphology, and to test its effect on the intestinal histology in LPS (lipopolysaccharide)-challenged mice. The EGF gene was cloned into the shuttle vector pSET4s and then transformed into the L. acidophilus MG6243 strain by electroporation. The potential inhibitory effect of Magnolia officinalis extract (MOE) on Helicobacter pylori was studied by using (i) disk agar diffusion assay, (ii) in vitro inhibition assays of H. pylori adhesion to human gastric adenocarcinoma epithelial cell line AGS cells, (iii) inhibition of H. pylori-induced inflammation in AGS cell, and (iv) in vivo H. pylori SS1 mouse model of infection over a period of 4 weeks. Results indicated that MOE had a wide range of inhibitory effect against H. pylori growth. The inhibition of H. pylori adherence to gastric epithelial cells was identified by MOE.
