The Acute Effect Of Aerobic Exercise On Anxiety Levels, Toni Devolder Aug 1993

The Acute Effect Of Aerobic Exercise On Anxiety Levels, Toni Devolder

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The present study sought to determine whether or not state anxiety levels were significantly reduced when individuals participated in aerobic dance workouts of 15 minutes and 30 minutes. Undergraduate university students and faculty enrolled in an aerobic dance class were volunteers in this study. As hypothesized, subjects in the aerobic dance classes did reduce anxiety acutely following both their 15 minute and 30 minute workout as assessed by the STAI (Y-Form State Anxiety). Thus, results indicate that state anxiety may be reduced through aerobic dance with similar situations and individuals. In addition, the study also looked at the posttest state …

Six Volleyball Skill Tests As A Predictor Of Game Performance, Donetta J. Cothran Jul 1992

Six Volleyball Skill Tests As A Predictor Of Game Performance, Donetta J. Cothran

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of six selected volleyball skill tests to actual volleyball game performance. The six skill test items were administered to 64 subjects, who were all members of a college level introductory volleyball course. Based on the ratings of a panel of experts, subjects were rated during game play as good, average, or poor performers.

The stepwise discriminant analysis was used to analyze the relationship between skill tests and game performance. Four of the six skill tests were identified as significantly contributing to group membership. These tests, in order of the magnitude …

A Comparison Of Traditional Grass-Twist Backstops To One Of Corrugated Cardboard Design Use On Indoor Ranges, Charles T. Crume Jr.

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This study presents the results of a comparison of traditional grass-twist backstops frequently used on indoor ranges with one of corrugated cardboard design. The findings indicate that the corrugated cardboard design is substantially superior.

The four factors selected for testing were:

  1. Arrow pass-through levels and subsequent arrow repair costs
  2. Arrow penetration levels, tested over several distances and using several bow weights
  3. Arrow-stopping potential with beginning and inexperienced archers
  4. Storage

Testing showed the first three factors supporting the corrugated cardboard design. The last factor, storage, was found to be about equally supportive of both designs.

Several recommendations are made. These recommendations …

A Comparison Of The Volley & Ground-Stroke Methods Of Teaching Beginning Tennis Utilizing The Command & Task Teaching Techniques, Neil Decker

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Designed to compare the effectiveness of two beginning tennis teaching methods and two teaching techniques, this study used ninety-seven male and female students enrolled in four beginning tennis classes as subjects.

After pretests, the Dyer Wallboard and the Broer-Miller Forehand-Backhand Drive Tests, each class was instructed in one of the two designated methods and by one of the two techniques. Thirteen 45-minute sessions of instruction were followed by posttesting.

A two-way analysis of covariance, using the pretests as the covariate, was computed with the data provided by the two dependent variables.

Results of the statistical analysis of the data revealed …

Physical Working Capacity Of Adult Men Resulting From A Progressive Aerobics Program, Gary Kaye

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This study was designed to determine the effects of a progressive aerobics training program on the physical working capacity of adults as measured on the bicycle ergometer.

The following hypotheses were tested:

  1. A progressive aerobics training program does not increase physical working capacity (PWC).
  2. A progressive aerobics training program has no effect on resting, exercise or recovery heart rate.
  3. A progressive aerobics training program does not increase predicted maximum oxygen consumption (VO2).

The Development Of A Basketball Battery For Middle School Male Students, Robert Chappell Jul 1971

The Development Of A Basketball Battery For Middle School Male Students, Robert Chappell

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

There has always been a great deal of interest in the measurement of playing ability in team games and many researchers concerned with physical education have made efforts to measure individual aspects of games in relation to the total game situation. However, any objective measurement of skill in a team game will present difficulties, for in many instances the final battery of tests bears little resemblance to the game situation. Games are usually broken down into a number of component parts for the purpose of testing, but the sum of these parts seldom adds up to the total game. Tests …

The Relationship Between Personality Factors Of Collegiate Football Players And Their Effectiveness On The Playing Field, Charles Williams May 1971

The Relationship Between Personality Factors Of Collegiate Football Players And Their Effectiveness On The Playing Field, Charles Williams

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Through the years there has been increasing interest in the investigation of the athlete's personality. Much emphasis has been placed on the psychological characteristics of athletes of a given age group and ability level. Coaches, trainers, and others involved with athletics believe that personality is an essential ingredient in developing a highly skilled individual. However, the ones in leadership seldom put forth explicit statements of such beliefs into a meaningful theory structure that can be assessed and therefore verified. Statement of the Problem: The purpose of this study was to determine whether differences in personality factors existed between groups of …

There is no significant difference of single right hand reaction times between the athlete and non-athlete groups. 3. There are no significant differences of the refractory time means at the various time intervals between stimulus presentation of athletes and non-athletes.

The Effects Of Limited Training In Hypnosis Upon Reaction Time, Veronica Eskridge Aug 1969

The Effects Of Limited Training In Hypnosis Upon Reaction Time, Veronica Eskridge

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This study was undertaken for the purpose of investigating the effects of limited training in hypnosis upon reaction time. More specifically, this study was conducted: (1) to find the immediate effect of a post-hypnotic suggestion for improvement upon simple reaction time responses of the preferred hand to a visual stimulus; and (2) to find the carry-over effect of the posthypnotic suggestion after three weeks with no further hypnosis, practice, or instruction.
