The aim of the present study was to perform a controlled experiment in order to evaluate the predisposing role of Eimeria adenoeides invasion on the appearance, development and severity of a Salmonella Enteritidis infection, with both infectious agents being field isolates obtained from spontaneous cases of the disease. Abortions In Sheep Due To Listeria Ivanovii In The Kars Region, Mi̇that Şahi̇n, Enver Beytut

This report describes an outbreak of Listeria ivanovii-induced abortion in sheep in the Kars region. In a flock of 120 sheep raised in Taşlıdere, a village in the region of Arpaçay, in Kars, some ewes in the last stages of gestation aborted in March, 2004. Necropsy was conducted on 5 aborted foetuses. Livers of the aborted foetuses showed diffuse necrotic foci. Histologically, the liver and lungs of aborted foetuses revealed diffuse coagulative necrosis infiltrated with macrophages and neutrophils. Bacterial culture from the liver and lungs of foetuses found pure growth of L. ivanovii subsp. ivanovii.

This study was carried out to determine the effect of age on male Zavot cattle for slaughter and carcass characteristics. For this aim, 18 male Zavot cattle were divided equally into groups 1, 2 and 3 containing animals 6, 18 and 30 months old, respectively. The fattening period lasted 162 days and there was a 14-day adaptation period. Individual ad-libitum feeding was used during the experiment. This study was conducted to determine the effect of microwave cooking on the infective stages of Toxocara canis larvae found in the tissues of paratenic hosts. For this purpose, 3 series of experiments were carried out using a household microwave oven (2450 MHz, model: Arçelik MD551) at medium, medium-high and high levels. In this study, \beta-lactoglobulin (\beta-Lg) variants in Awassi and Morkaraman sheep were studied using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and their association with composition and rennet clotting time of the milk was estimated. Two alleles (A and B) and 3 different genotypes for \beta-Lg (AA, AB and BB) were observed in the whey from both breeds. The frequencies of \beta-Lg alleles were estimated as A 0.63 and B 0.37 in the Awassi breed, and A 0.56 and B 0.44 in the Morkaraman breed. Haematological And Coagulation Profiles During Severe Tropical Theileriosis In Cattle, Ramazan Çöl, Uğur Uslu

This study was conducted to measure selected haematological parameters in Holstein cattle naturally infected with Theileria annulata. Haematological analysis indicated significant decreases in red blood cell count, haematocrit value, haemoglobin amount, mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration, and white blood cell, lymphocyte, neutrophil, monocyte, eosinophil, and basophil counts. On the other hand, significant increases were seen in mean corpuscular volume and marked reticulocytosis in infected animals compared to the animals in the control (uninfected) group. In the coagulation profile, activated partial thromboplastin time and prothrombin time were significantly prolonged, and platelet counts were significantly less in the infected group compared to those …

The Pathologic And Bacteriologic Comparison Of Pneumonia In Lambs, Ertan Oruç

The correlations between the bacteriologic agent of lamb pneumonia and its pathologic characters were investigated in this study. Pneumonia was detected in 262 (35.41%) of 740 diseased or dead lambs. Pathogenic bacteria were isolated in 114 cases (14.96% of all lamb deaths and 43.51% of all pneumonias). Lung lesions were histopathologically described as acute-catarrhal (17.56%), catarrhal-purulent (14.50%), purulent-necrotic (9.54%), fibrinous (26.72%), fibrinous-necrotic (5.73%), interstitial (18.32%), or verminous pneumonia (7.63%). In bacteriological studies, Mannheimia haemolytica (56.14%), E. coli (24.56%), and Pasteurella multocida (10.52%) were detected as important bacterial agents that caused different pneumonic lesions in lambs.

The most commonly used measurements for evaluating the accuracy of diagnostic tests in binary data are sensitivity and specificity. Sensitivity refers to the ability of a test to detect patients with some specific disease. Specificity describes how well test abnormality is restricted to those persons who have the disease in question. The variance estimators of these measurements are usually obtained using a binomial estimator, although there are several other methods. The purpose of this study was to evaluate knowledge about breast cancer and mammography in breast cancer screening among women awaiting mammographic examination. A cross-sectional survey was carried out of 298 women with an age range of 29-79 years through interview before mammographic examination. Certain phenoxyacetate derivatives used as plant growth regulators act as plant hormones. 2,4-D dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid are widely used in vegetable growing, especially tomatoes, in our region. These phenoxyacetic acid compounds are a potential hazard for the environment. There are conflicting results and inconsistent data about these herbicides in the literature. This is the first report of genotoxicity of 4-CPA evaluated by sister chromatid exchange in human lymphocyte culture. No significant change was found in sister chromatid exchange frequency at the tested 4-CPA concentration.

Sister chromatid exchange (SCE) and chromosomal aberration (CA) in peripheral lymphocytes have been widely used in assessing exposure to mutagens and carcinogens. One of the extensively studied genotoxins is benzo[a]pyrene (BaP). The aim of the present study was to examine the ability of BaP to induce different individual cytogenetic response measured by SCE and CA frequency. The optimal anesthetic technique for transvaginal ultrasound guided oocyte retrieval (TUGOR) is not known. We present a case series of patients having TUGOR under intravenous remifentanil infusion and paracervical block (PCB). One hundred four unpremedicated patients were included in our study. After monitoring heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP), peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO_2) and end tidal CO_2 (ETCO_2), a remifentanil infusion of 0.25 µg kg^{-1} min^{-1} was started. This study was planned in order to make good the lack of information about population-based data on the prevalence of brucellosis in the Kayseri region. This cross-sectional research was performed on 1850 individuals living in the rural regionaround Kayseri. People aged 15-85 in 9 districts in this rural areas were interviewed and blood samples were screened using the Rose Bengal Agglutination test. The overall prevalence of brucellosis was 3.4%. The G->A transition at position 20210 in the prothrombin gene is a genetic risk factor for venous thrombosis. Nevertheless, it is not clear if the prothrombin 20210A allele is also a genetic risk factor for arterial thrombosis. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of various types of dental casting alloys and ceramic upon cell viability and the synthesis of IL-1beta (\beta) in a three-dimensional cell culture system consisting of human gingival fibroblast, and to determine their effect in gingival inflammation. Au-Pt-In alloy (Pontostar), Ni-Cr-Mo alloy (Remanium-CS), a titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V), copper (Cu), and an all ceramic (In-Ceram) were used as test materials. The objective of our study was to assess procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) plasma concentrations in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients undergoing haemodialysis sessions and the effect of intermittent haemodialysis on PCT levels. We measured plasma PCT and CRP levels in 43 ESRD patients without evidence of systemic infection at the beginning of haemodialysis and 4 hours later. Control group consisted of 40 volunteers with no complaints. Venous blood samples were collected from the patient before and after hemodialysis and the control groups. This article concerning the rate of accurate diagnosis of keratinocyte carcinoma is reported by experienced surgeons. Keratinocyte carcinoma (KC) has been recently used in order to define basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Although an histopathologic analysis is standard for diagnosis, clinical diagnosis is still important for the choice of proper treatment. In this prospective study, 204 lesions were excised following clinical pre-diagnosis of keratinocyte carcinoma. The lesions were excised from the proper surgical limit for clinical diagnosis and sent for histopathologic examination. Beta-thalassemia and Sickle cell anemia are serious health problems in the Antalya Province of Turkey as well as World Wide. We aimed to summarize data obtained from the prenatal diagnosis for beta-thalassemia and sickle cell anemia of 103 fetuses. All samples were cytogenetically and molecular genetically examined during a period of 4 years. Molecular testing using RDBH and direct DNA sequencing was performed by using amplified DNA from chorionic villi samples at 9-14 weeks of gestation, while mutations in the parents were determined in advance.
