Background/aim: Pyogenic granuloma (PG)-like nodular Kaposi?s sarcoma (KS) has been previously demonstrated in several studies. However, to the best of our knowledge, no original study investigating the dermoscopic differential diagnosis of PG and KS exists in the relevant literature. In this study we aimed to identify dermoscopic findings providing useful clues to differential diagnosis between the two entities.Materials and methods: Patients with histopathologically confirmed PG or nodular KS were included in the study. Background/aim: The present study aimed to examine whether the combination of neoadjuvant volumetric modulated arc radiotherapy (VMAT) using simultaneous integrated boost (SIB-VMAT) techniques and chemotherapy with capecitabine is associated with better clinical and dosimetric outcomes compared to the standard treatment.Materials and methods: The study included 59 patients with cT2?T4 rectal cancer. In the standard arm, patients (n = 37) were treated preoperatively with image-guided VMAT plus capecitabine. Background/aim: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by synovial inflammation. The study aimed to assess serum 14-3-3eta, anti-CarP, and anti-Sa in seronegative RA (SNRA) patients who were treatment-naïve as well as in healthy subjects. This is the first study in the literature to examine these autoantibodies together in SNRA patients. Materials and methods: Forty-five treatment-naïve SNRA patients and 45 healthy subjects were recruited. Background/aim: In this study, the antibacterial and antifungal properties of the five most commonly used antiseptic formulations were evaluated in terms of different contact times and organic conditions. Materials and methods: Solutions of chlorhexidine digluconate, povidone iodine, isopropyl alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, and tincture of iodine were prepared and tested according to European standards EN 13727 and EN 13624 with different parameters.Results: The results showed that isopropyl alcohol (70% v/v) and tincture of iodine (2%) had greater bactericidal and fungicidal activity against the four tested bacteria and two fungi in all conditions.Conclusion: When the results of the five different active substances …

Background/aim: This study aimed to investigate the change in bone mineral density (BMD) before and 1 year after parathyroidectomy in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). Materials and methods: The clinical and biochemical parameters and DEXA screening of patients with symptomatic PHPT (n = 28) and asymptomatic PHPT (n = 63) were investigated before and 1 year after parathyroidectomy. Background/aim: The present study aimed to develop a reliable and valid assessment tool for measuring family functioning in rehabilitation. Materials and methods: Semistructured interviews were performed with 100 rehabilitation professionals working in pediatrics to identify the feature to be measured. The items determined with the qualitative analysis of the data were presented to 14 experts and content validity was provided. The questionnaire created based on the judgments of the experts was administered to 440 parents of children with special needs. Döner is a traditional meat meal that is commonly consumed in Turkey. Although it receives heat treatment during processing, some microorganisms including pathogens may remain alive. Therefore, this study was carried out to determine the changes in the number of microorganisms (total aerobic mesophilic bacteria, Enterobacteriaceae, Escherichia coli, aerobic mesophilic spore-forming bacteria, Staphylococcus-Micrococcus spp.) and survival potential of some pathogenic bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Clostridium perfringens) during the cooking period. The viability and body measurements of calves raised in the Livestock Research Center of Afyon Kocatepe University between 2008 and 2011 were investigated. The research was conducted on 188 calves of buffalo cows brought from different regions of Turkey. The viability of buffalo calves at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months of age was 0.95, 0.90, 0.90, and 0.89, respectively. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of different curing temperatures (4 °C or 10 °C) and agents (KNO$_{3}$ or NaNO$_{2}$) on microbiological and physicochemical properties of pastırma and diversity of gram-positive, catalase-positive cocci (GCC$^{+}$) and also to investigate some technological properties of the strains. Four different groups of pastırma were produced applying different curing temperatures and agents. After production, $GCC^{+}$ isolated from pastırma were subjected to phenotypic and genotypic (16S rRNA sequencing) identification. This study was carried out to evaluate the biochemical parameters and intestinal microflora in broilers with low doses of Eimeria tenella. Birds from the experimental groups were orally infected with 500 (GI) or 1000 (GII) sporulated oocysts of E. tenella and then examined for weight gain, biochemical indicators, and microbiota on day 9 and 16 after infection. This study was conducted to fortify nutritional and chemical composition of sunflower meal (SFM) and full-fat soybean (FFSB) used as a protein source in farm animal nutrition by Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633 fermentation. An optimized set of fermentation parameters (60% moisture, 6.5-7.0 pH, 30-35 °C temperature, continuous aeration of 0.5-1.0 L/min and agitation of 20-100 rpm) were used to ferment SFM and FFSB samples with or without using bacterial inoculant for 0, 24, 48, and 72 h. In this study, findings of morphological deformation observed on a blue crab sampled in Köyceğiz Lagoon (Muğla, Turkey) are presented. The deformation is in the left lateral spine. It has been observed that this spine, which normally should have been one, developed as two independent spines. Due to this abnormality observed in the individual, the individual has two carapace widths.

The patient in this case report was a male Golden Retriever dog, approximately 5 years of age, found in woodlands and presenting with an inability to use the right hindlimb. In craniocaudal and mediolateral radiographs taken of the patient, presence of an old comminuted fracture caused by a firearm injury was observed in the right femoral condyle. A custom-made trochlear groove of suitable dimensions for the patient was produced. The patient tip-toed on postoperative day 1 and was seen to be mostly weight-bearing by day 7. To the best of our knowledge, there is no study having evaluated the immunohistochemical features of FNIPs. A small pupil and poor pupil dilation are well-known risk factors faced by veterinary ophthalmologists during and after cataract surgery. We here describe two cases of phacoemulsification performed using an iris expander (Visitec I-Ring Pupil Expander, Beaver-Visitec International, USA) for treating cataracts in dogs with small pupils. Using this technique, we performed cataract extraction effectively in dogs with insufficiently dilated pupils. This case report provides useful information on the use of an iris expander for phacoemulsification in eyes with a small pupil, which can be applied in veterinary settings.
