Background/aim: The aim of this study was to determine the accuracy of severity scores for predicting the 28-day mortality among adults with severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) admitted to the emergency department.Materials andmethods: This study included 159 consecutive adult patients with SARI admitted to the emergency department of a tertiary hospital. Background/aim: High triglyceride (TG) levels are associated with increases in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD), hepatic steatosis, and pancreatitis. Acute pancreatitis is a condition with high mortality. Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) in the treatment of hypertriglyceridemic pancreatitis (HTGP) is a rapid and effective treatment modality. Background/aim: To determine risk factors of overweightness/obesity in children aged 0-5 years in the Turkish population.Materials and methods: We made advanced analysis using the Turkey Demographic Health Survey (TDHS) 2013 female database, in which data from children aged under five years and their mothers are included. Analyses were performed using weight for height index data. The children were divided into two groups by age as 0-23 months and 24-59 months.Results: The analysis comprised 2196 children aged under 5 years. Background/aim: This study aimed to evaluate the stiffness of the liver, spleen, and kidneys in HIV-monoinfected children via shear wave elastography (SWE).Materials and methods: Twenty-one HIV-monoinfected children and 37 healthy subjects were included in this study. Livers, spleens, and kidneys of the participants were examined via ultrasound and SWE. Patients were divided into two groups according to the presence of pathologic ultrasonographic findings. Routine laboratory tests were also recorded. Underlying factors that contribute to AD are impaired epithelial barrier, alterations in the lipid composition of the skin, immunological imbalance including increased Th2/Th1 ratio, proinflammatory cytokines, decreased T regulatory cells, genetic mutations, and epigenetic alterations. Background/aim: High-dose chemotherapy followed by autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) has become the standard approach for patients with relapsed/refractory Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). In this study, we report the outcome of the mitoxantrone-melphalan conditioning regimen for lymphoma. Materials and methods: The study group included 53 patients who were relapsed/refractory HL (n = 14) and NHL (n = 39) and received mitoxantrone and melphalan followed by ASCT. The transplant regimen consisted of mitoxantrone (60 mg/m2) and melphalan (180 mg/m2) followed by peripheral blood stem cell infusion (PBSC). Materials and methods: Children admitted with acute asthma were treated with 3 doses of nebulized salbutamol, 1 given by MN. Background/aim: In this study, the efficiency of using low-dose hepatitis B immunoglobulin (HBIG) plus antiviral treatment according to individual needs has been evaluated in posttransplant hepatitis B virus (HBV) patients.Materials and methods: We retrospectively evaluated 179 patients who were admitted between 2009 and 2014. Five thousand IU intravenous HBIG was given in the anhepatic phase, and 400 IU/day intramuscular (IM) HBIG was given in the posttransplant period. After HBsAg seroconversion, 400 IU IM HBIG was continued as prophylaxis every two weeks.Results: The average follow-up period was 26 (2-65) months. Background/aim: This study aimed to describe the prognostic importance of epidermal growth factor (EGFR), phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN), human EGF receptor-2 (HER-2), and insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R) in gastric cancer patients treated with postoperative chemoradiation therapy. Materials and methods: Sixty-nine patients treated with adjuvant chemoradiation therapy were retrospectively evaluated. Tumor samples were stained immunohistochemically. Results: All patients were treated with 3D conformal radiation therapy with concomitant and adjuvant chemotherapy. Background/aim: This study aims to explore the mirror neuron system (MNS) involvement using mu (8?12 Hz)/beta (15?25 Hz) band suppression in an action observation-execution paradigm. Materials and methods: Electrophysiological (EEG) data from 16 electrodes were recorded while 8 participants observed video clips of a hand squeezing a spring. Specifically, the effect of anticipated execution on observation was studied. Background/aim: Giant ventral incisional hernias (GVIHs) are hard to manage for surgeons. This problem was resolved in 1990 with the components separation technique (CST). Background/aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the treatment results of patients undergoing adjuvant radiotherapy (ART) after breast surgery with the diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).Materials and methods: A total of 61 women who had undergone radiotherapy following extensive surgical excision were enrolled. Background/aim: Several studies demonstrated that primary hyperparathyroidism is related to increased risk for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), and risk is decreased by parathyroidectomy. Epicardial fat thickness (EFT) has been postulated as a new marker of CVD risk. We evaluated the impact of parathyroidectomy on EFT in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT).Materials and methods: Thirty-four PHPT patients (29 female, 5 male) and 28 age- and sex-matched controls (19 female, 9 male) were included in the study.
