Background/aim: Bacteremia remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality during febrile neutropenia (FN) episodes. We aimed to define the risk factors for bacteremia in febrile neutropenic children with hemato-oncological malignancies. Materials and methods: The records of 150 patients aged ?18 years who developed FN in hematology and oncology clinics were retrospectively evaluated. Patients with bacteremia were compared to patients with negative blood cultures.Results: The mean age of the patients was 7.5 ± 4.8 years. The Intensive Care Psychological Assessment Tool (IPAT) was developed for this purpose in intensive care units. This study aims to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of IPAT.Materials and methods: In total, 98 patients were included. To assess concurrent validity, the Intensive Care Experiences Scale (ICES) and the Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale were performed. In immunosuppressed patients, strongyloidiasis can be lifethreatening because of hyperinfection or dissemination. Therefore, diagnosis of S. stercoralis is important in immunosuppressed patients with chronic strongyloidiasis. In this study, our objective was to investigate the presence of S. stercoralis antibodies by an ELISA method in immunosuppressed patients. Interferon-induced helicase (IFIH1) is a gene locus that has been recently defined as a candidate for susceptibility to generalized vitiligo (GV). The objectives of this study were to assess the association of IFIH1 gene, rs2111485, and rs1990760 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) with susceptibility to GV and the autoimmune diseases accompanying GV.Materials and methods: We prospectively studied GV patients and frequency-matched healthy controls by age and sex. Background/aim: One of the most feared complications after colon resection for carcinoma is anastomotic leakage. Prediction of anastomotic leakage can alter pre- and perioperative management of patients. This study validates an anastomotic leakage prediction system. Materials and methods: Ninety-five patients who underwent colonic resection between 1 January 2016 and 30 January 2017 were included in the study. Background/aim: The aim of this study was to determine the usefulness of tigecycline in combination treatment of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia infections by evaluating the in vitro synergistic effects of tigecycline with various antibiotics using the E-test method.Materials and methods: Synergy testing by E-test was performed with various antibiotic combinations in 10 S. maltophilia isolates identified as a cause of infection. Background/aim: This study aimed to investigate the effect of technical details of percutaneous catheter drainage (PCD) on the clinical outcomes of patients with infected necrotizing pancreatitis (INP).Materials and methods: A total of 44 INP patients treated in our hospital from October 2013 to October 2015 were included. The correlations of the first PCD treatment data and the clinical outcomes were analyzed.Results: The number of catheters was positively correlated with hospital readmission (r = 0.335, P = 0.032). Background/aim: Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a serious illness characterized by fever and hemorrhage. Endothelin-1 (ET-1), angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2), and endothelial cell-specific receptor tyrosine kinase (Tie-2) are believed to be important markers of the pathogenesis, clinical course, and prognosis of the disease. Background/aim: We aimed to investigate Internet addiction in pediatric patients with migraine- and tension-type headache in this study. Materials and methods: Among our 200 subjects, 103 had migraine-type headache and 97 had tension-type headache. Results: Headache triggered by computer use was more common in the migraine-type headache group. There was no difference between the Internet addiction scale score of the two groups. The Internet addiction scale scores of the patients were found to differ depending on the aim and duration of computer use. Internet addiction was found in six (6%) patients. Background/aim: To investigate the relationship between subfertility etiologies and success rates in controlled ovarian stimulation and intrauterine insemination (COS?IUI) cycles.Materials and methods: The medical records of 218 couples who applied to a university-based fertility center were analyzed retrospectively. Detailed infertility examination data and pregnancy outcomes were compared according to different subfertility etiologies. Increased phospho-Akt (pAkt) levels in response to NNMT overexpression have been reported in in vitro studies of different cancer types. Background/aim: Polycythemia Vera (PV) is a myeloproliferative disorder characterized by overproduction of morphologically normal red blood cells (RBCs), granulocytes, and platelets, a phenotype that is caused by a mutation (V617F) in Janus kinase 2 (JAK2). However, JAK2 V617F is also found in approximately 50% of patients with essential thrombocytosis and primary myelofibrosis, rendering its presence nonspecific as a diagnostic test.
