Background/aim: Our research focused on the identification of easily available and sensitive markers for early prediction of acute kidney allograft rejection (AR). We aimed to investigate the association between neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and AR in kidney transplant patients. Materials and methods: The medical records of 51 kidney transplant patients [12 female/39 male; median age of 32 (IQR: 24-44) years] were evaluated retrospectively. We considered a cut-off value of >2.5 as high NLR. Results: A total of 22 biopsy-proven AR patients and 29 controls were evaluated. The AR group had a higher NLR compared to the controls (P < 0.001). NLR levels over 2.5 [95% CI: 54.88 (9.96-302.3), P < 0.001] were significantly associated with AR in univariate analysis. The NLR levels were the only significant factor associated with AR in multivariate models, in model 1 (adjusted by age and sex) [95% CI: 114 (11.1-1175), P < 0.001], and in model 2 (adjusted by steroid dosage, uric acid, and NLR) [95% CI: 4.60 (1.59-29.3), P = 0.004]. Background/aim: We aimed to investigate the associations between endothelial nitric oxide synthase(eNOS) gene polymorphisms [G894T (rs1799983)], intron 4 (27-bpTR) variable number tandem repeat (VNTR) and T786C (rs2070744), and ischemic stroke in the Anatolian population.Materials and methods: This case-control study included 112 patients with "stroke of undetermined etiology" and 160 controls. Real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis was used to analyze these polymorphisms. Background/aim: The aim of this study is to present the results of modified combined decongestive therapy (CDT) in patients with lower extremity lymphedema (LEL). Materials and methods: We retrospectively reviewed 95 patients aged 55.84 ± 15.70 years who had been diagnosed with LEL between May 2015 and May 2017. Background/aim: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease. The effect of psoriasis on the cardiovascular system has not been studied in children before. We studied ventricular strain and vascular functions to assess early cardiovascular effects of psoriasis during childhood. Materials and methods: The study population consisted of 20 psoriatic and 20 age- and sex-matched control subjects. Two-dimensional echocardiography images, longitudinal and global strain, and carotid and brachial ultrasound studies were performed. This study investigates whether IAP during laparoscopic surgery leads to GER in a time-dependent manner.Materials and methods: In a laparoscopy model, 15 mmHg IAP was created in 8 Wistar albino rats in the Trendelenburg position (TP). A 5 mm laparotomy was performed in the left lower abdominal region, and a 6 Fr catheter was placed intraabdominally. Background/aim: Defective vascularization may be important in thyroid nodular disease. In this study, we aimed to investigate serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) levels in dyslipidemic patients with thyroid nodules, as well as the effects of statin therapy.Materials and methods: The study included 37 dyslipidemic patients with thyroid nodules and 32 dyslipidemic patients without thyroid nodules. Anthropometry, serum VEGF levels, biochemical parameters, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free triiodothyronine (fT3) and free thyroxine (fT4) levels, and thyroid sonography were determined before and after 6 months of statin therapy. Background/aim: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the iodine concentration (IC) of perigastric fat tissue as assessed by dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) and serosal invasion of gastric cancer.Materials and methods: A total of 41 patients underwent preoperative staging evaluation for gastric cancer using DECT between July 2015 and March 2018. Background/aim: In this study, we aimed to assess the cancer risk among patients with periodontal disease.Materials and methods: Patients diagnosed with periodontal diseases at Hacettepe University between 2007 and 2012 were included and data on the diagnosis of any cancer after periodontal disease were collected from patient files. Background/aim: Vitiligo is a depigmentation disorder that leads to serious psychological burden in patients, who are frequently reported to have depression and anxiety. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between stress-related hormone levels and psychological stress in vitiligo. Materials and methods: In this study46 vitiligo patients and 46 controls were enrolled; their cortisol, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS),and cortisol/DHEAS levels were measured.
