Background/aim: Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF), the most common autoinflammatory disease in children, is characterized by recurrent febrile episodes. FMF is known to progress with chronic inflammation, particularly during attack periods. This study aimed to investigate the relationship of S100A12, an inflammatory marker, with attacks and inflammatory events in FMF patients. Background and aim: Vascular variations of grafts are handled with various reconstruction techniques in renal transplantation. We aimed to analyze the effects of these reconstruction techniques and sites on patient/graft outcomes. Materials and methods: Renal transplantation cases at the Transplantation Unit of the General Surgery Department, İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty between January 1st, 2000 and December 31st, 2012 were analyzed retrospectively. Background/aim: The prevalence of Helicobacter pylori is reported to be roughly 80% in Turkey, and only very few culture-based studies are available on antibacterial resistance in adult dyspeptic patients. This study was carried out in adult dyspeptic patients with an aim to: (i) detect H. pylori by invasive tests (culture, polymerase chain reaction, and histopathology) and (ii) determine the current resistance rates of H. pylori isolates to six antibiotics, including rifampicin. Background/aim: To investigate the histopathological effects of reabsorbable polyethylene glycol hydrogel (RPGH, Coseal) on epidural fibrosis (EF) following laminectomy in rats. Materials and methods: A total of 24 rats were equally divided into three groups. In the first group, no treatment was applied after laminectomy (control group, Group 1). The disturbance of Ca2+ homeostasis in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is associated with many diseases, including diabetic nephropathy and hyperthyroidism. Transient receptor potential canonical 1 (TRPC1) channel is the first cloned TRPC family protein. Although it is expressed in many places in the kidney, its function is uncertain. Background/aim: Iatrogenic vas deferens injury is one of the most serious complications of operations in the inguinal region. Vasovasostomy is performed as treatment. However, stenosis is common after vasovasostomy. Oligospermia or azoospermia may develop and result in infertility. Background/aim: This mini-review aims at summarising and discussing previous and recent findings concerning the clinical manifestations, therapeutic management, and outcome of SARS-CoV-2 associated rhabdomyolysis. Materials and methods: Literature search in the PubMed database by applying appropriate search terms. Results: A total of 26 articles reporting SARS-CoV-2 associated rhabdomyolysis in 32 patients were identified. Age ranged from 16 to 80 years. Four patients were female and 25 were male. Onset of rhabdomyolysis was prior to onset of COVID-19 in 7 patients, and after onset of COVID-19 in the remaining patients. Exposure to myotoxic medication was identified in 18 patients. Background/aim: The disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 was named as COVID-19. There is as yet insufficient information about the effects of HSCT on the clinical course of COVID-19. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the clinical course of COVID-19 in patients who had undergone HSCT. Materials and methods: We analyzed baseline characteristics, clinical course and findings of COVID-19, hospitalization and death rates, overall survival, and case fatality rates of HSCT recipients diagnosed with COVID-19 retrospectively. Background/aim: Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is a genetically recessive autoinflammatory disease caused by mutations in the Mediterranean fever (MEFV) gene. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequencies of the most common MEFV mutations among a sample of healthy individuals from the Havsa population of European Turkey, where FMF is less prevalent compared to Asian Turkey. Materials and methods: The study group consisted of 263 unrelated healthy adults. All of the participants were analyzed for the M694V, V726A, M680I, and E148Q mutations in the MEFV gene. Background/aim: The purpose of this study was to compare efficacy and safety of a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of oxaliplatin, irinotecan, fluorouracil, and leucovorin (FOLFIRINOX) and gemcitabine-cisplatin as first-line therapy in patients with pancreatic cancer. Materials and methods: Pancreaticobiliary cancer patients who had Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status score of 0 or 1 (on a scale of 0 to 5, with higher scores indicating greater severity of illness) were evaluated to receive folfirinox or gemcitabine plus cisplatin. Background and aim: This study analyzed peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets to determine their role in the etiopathogenesis of IGM. Materials and methods: This study includes 51 pathologically proven IGM patients (active disease: 26 and in remission: 25) and 28 healthy volunteers. Background/aim: We aimed to present the clinical results of patients with medullary carcinoma under follow-up in our center and to determine parameters affecting remission and lymph node metastases. Material and methods: A retrospective analysis was performed of the medical records of 27 patients with MTC who were followed up between 2004 and 2020. Results: The mean age at diagnosis was 47.7 ± 14 years. The mean follow-up was 7.29 ± 4.9 years. Background/aim: The aim of the study was to investigate whether treating haematological malignancy (HM) patients in a separate intensive care unit (ICU) would reduce ICU mortality. Materials and methods: HM patients treated by the same ICU team in a general medical ICU (GM-ICU) and a separate haematology ICU (H-ICU) were included in this study. Background/aim: Use of topical anesthesia before flexible bronchoscopy for the evaluation of the upper airways prevents cough and stridor during and after the procedure while reducing the need for sedation. Background/aim: We investigated the synergistic effect between vancomycin and ß-lactams against vancomycin-susceptible (VSSA) and nonsusceptible MRSA isolates [heterogeneous vancomycin-intermediate S. aureus (hVISA) and VISA]. Materials and methods: A total of 29 MRSA, including 6 VISA, 14 hVISA, and 9 VSSA isolates, were subjected to a microbroth dilution-minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) checkerboard using vancomycin combined with cefotaxime, imipenem, or meropenem. Materials and methods: The cross-sectional study included adult patients who were diagnosed with COVID-19 in Gazi University Hospital between April 2020 and June 2020. Materials and methods: A retrospective analysis of a prospective database was conducted to review patients who underwent MIP (July 2017-October 2019). Background/aim: To evaluate the incidence, clinical features, risk factors, and prognosis of central nervous system (CNS) involvement in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Materials and methods: All AML patients who were admitted to Hacettepe University hospital between 2000 and 2021 were evaluated. The medical records of 548 AML cases were retrospectively analyzed. Results: The frequency of CNS involvement was 2.4% (n = 13) at diagnosis and 4.6% (n = 25) at diagnosis or during follow-up.
