Background: In a hospital environment the care of the patient is transferred multiple times during his or her stay. Current needs assessment indicates that nurses’ perception of safety culture with handoff communication and patient safety is an area of focus for the practice site.

Objectives: This study aimed to improve the Pre-operative and Operating Room nurses’ perception of safety culture measured with four valid and reliable survey questions. The second study’s aim was to improve patient safety with the handoff process, measured by the number of adverse events reported by the practice site.

Background: Patient and provider engagement in healthcare has an impact on health outcomes.

Purpose: To study the implementation of the Ask Me 3 (AM3) tool, a tool that encourages patients to ask three questions about their health to their care provider. The aim of the project is to explore the level of patient and provider engagement by patients` reports of their perception of engagement with their provider and in understanding their diagnosis.

Many healthcare institutions have acknowledged the benefits of and the need for a workforce that reflects the diverse patient populations they serve. However, few healthcare organizations have made progress in increasing the diversity of their leadership teams. The American Hospital Association’s Institute for Diversity in Healthcare Management (2016) found that while minorities represent 32% of hospital patient populations across the nation, they only account for 11% of executive leadership. The United States is undergoing an epidemic of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. All three bacterial infections are detectable and treatable, yet they often go diagnosed. Untreated chlamydia and gonorrhea can lead to serious pelvic infections and infertility; untreated syphilis can result in severe complications, including death. Congenital syphilis is increasing as well, with a concurrent rise in stillbirth and newborn deaths.

Increased resources and heightened attention are urgently needed to supplement the work of the public health infrastructure, for which STI funding has remained stagnant for two decades. Fortunately, the Medicaid program is well situated …

Objective: While colleges have implemented brief, tailored interventions for health-risk areas such as alcohol prevention, theoretically-guided digital learning offerings for weight gain prevention have lagged behind in programming and implementation. Thus, the objective was to design and usability test a weight gain prevention digital learning platform for college students with modules targeting key nutrition and physical activity behaviors. Methods: Development occurred in iterative phases: formative research, descriptive normative data collection, prototype development, and usability testing. New tools, such as altmetrics and PlumX metrics, have been made available to rapidly capture the level of scientific article dissemination across social media platforms. Introduction

Improvements in overall survival (OS) and quality of life (QoL) are clinically relevant outcomes that should guide clinical decision-making. Patients with MPNs can live with their disease for a long period of time, which increases the importance of understanding the impact of treatment in regards to a patients’ Health-Related QoL. Therefore, including PROs in clinical trials has become paramount in facilitating informed treatment decisions made by health care providers and patients. Purpose: Despite occupational therapy’s established role in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in providing family centered intervention, mothers continue to report lack of readiness to discharge home and emotional distress while in the NICU and upon discharge home. Occupational therapists have the unique skillset to promote engagement in meaningful activities and facilitate overall health and wellness for mother’s during and after their NICU stay.

Sexual and gender minorities (SGM) have unique health risks and health care needs, but medical students receive little training on SGM health (Obedin-Maliver, et al., 2011). This mixed methods study sought to learn from curricular champions in diverse settings to apply lessons learned at the George Washington University (GW). Exploratory models that included eight potential predictor variables for six criterion variables were tested using multiple linear regression.
