Barriers And Facilitators To Implementing Simulation-Based Translational Research: A Qualitative Study, Lisa Ann Paganotti Dec 2021

Barriers And Facilitators To Implementing Simulation-Based Translational Research: A Qualitative Study, Lisa Ann Paganotti

Doctor of Philosophy in Translational Health Sciences Dissertations

Translational simulation research has the potential to inform the way simulation is used to impact patient care and patient outcomes. Understanding how to approach translational simulation and the barriers and facilitators that can be used throughout the process can inform novice simulation and translational researchers. This qualitative dissertation sought to answer the following research questions: How do simulation experts describe the barriers and facilitators to implementing translational simulation programs? How do simulation experts describe their various approaches to implementing translational simulation programs? What recommendations do simulation experts describe for overcoming barriers to implementing translational simulation programs? The key findings include …

Global Health Faculty Publications

OBJECTIVE: Despite evidence of acute and long-term consequences of suboptimal experiences of care, standardized measurements across countries remain limited, particularly for postabortion care. We aimed to determine the proportion of women reporting negative experiences of care for abortion complications, identify risk factors, and assess the potential association with complication severity.

METHODS: Data were sourced from the WHO Multi-Country Survey on Abortion for women who received facility-based care for abortion complications in 11 African countries. We measured women's experiences of care with eight questions from an audio computer-assisted self-interview related to respect, communication, and support. Multivariable generalized estimating equations were used …

Background and Aim: Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, long-term alcohol use, cigarette smoking, and obesity are the major risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the United States, but the disease risk varies substantially among individuals with these factors, suggesting host susceptibility to and gene-environment interactions in HCC. To address genetic susceptibility to HCC, we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS).

Methods: Two case-control studies on HCC were conducted in the United States. DNA samples were genotyped using the Illumian microarray chip with over 710 000 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). We compared these SNPs between 705 HCC cases and …

Randomized And Non-Randomized Designs For Causal Inference With Longitudinal Data In Rare Disorders., Rima Izem, Robert Mccarter

Pediatrics Faculty Publications

In the United States, approximately 7000 rare diseases affect 30 million patients, and only 10% of these diseases have existing therapies. Sound study design and causal inference methods are essential to demonstrate the therapeutic efficacy, safety, and effectiveness of new therapies. In the rare diseases setting, several factors challenge the use of typical parallel control designs: the small patient population size, genotypic and phenotypic diversity, and the complexity and incomplete understanding of the disorder's progression. Repeated measures, when spaced appropriately relative to disease progression and exploited in design and analysis, can increase study power and reduce variability in treatment effect …

Development Of An Archive At Monmouth Medical Center, Frederic Pachman Nov 2021

Development Of An Archive At Monmouth Medical Center, Frederic Pachman

Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL)

Monmouth Medical Center, founded in 1887, was the first hospital at the Jersey Shore. Over the past thirty years there was a limited effort to develop archival and historical collections that document this rich history. In conjunction with the medical center's 125th anniversary in 2012, a consultant was retained to evaluate the archives, develop operational policies and prepare exhibits. Public programs and exhibits about the medical center have been presented to state and local organizations, and a schedule of historical programs is offered in-house during National Hospital Week. The archival collections were actively used to celebrate the medical center's anniversary …

Re-Envisioning The Virginia Journal Of Public Health: Leveraging The Institutional Repository For Publishing Success, Mark Lane, Maria Devalpine, Rebecca Kruse, Carolyn Schubert

Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL)

This case study presents what happened when new leadership for the Virginia Journal of Public Health brought new questions about journal quality, value, and impact. Conversations initially began with the liaison librarian about the nature of journal publishing and open access today. As the conversation evolved, the Digital Collections team joined the working group to think through journal publishing for this title. This session will describe this collaborative evolution and how we worked to re-envision and migrate the journal from its prior website to the university’s institutional repository. The session will feature considerations for publishing with the institutional repository, highlight …

Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL)

Purpose: This lightning talk describes the development and impact of an institutional repository-based journal created to promote scholarship within the graduate medical education community. Description: Scholarly and professional communication is an important educational activity for residents and fellows at academic medical centers. The Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center established a journal to provide medical residents and fellows with the opportunity to publish scholarly journal articles. The GME department partnered with the McGoogan Health Sciences Library, which provides a journal platform through its institutional repository, DOI minting, and publishing advice and information. Launched …
