Cu Anschutz Digital Collections Migration: From Dspace To Hyku, Raven Morrigan
Cu Anschutz Digital Collections Migration: From Dspace To Hyku, Raven Morrigan
Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL)
Strauss Library at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus was part of the regional group of repositories called Mountain Scholar using DSpace when the lead for Mountain Scholar, Colorado State University (CSU), announced that they could no longer afford to support the Mountain Scholar instance. All the libraries currently part of Mountain Scholar had to decide whether to migrate to ContentDM with CSU or strike out on their own. Strauss Library considered our options, and with University of Colorado Boulder using Samvera, decided to pursue migrating to Samvera. The library completed the migration to Hyku, an extension of Samvera, …

Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL)
This presentation examines the process of building a conference collection on Digital Commons with a discussion on stakeholder collaboration, collection architecture, and promotion, and reciprocal benefit to both scholars and repository managers.
Conference collections enhance attendees' experiences by creating a live archive of conference materials, viewable both during and after the event. Collections provide meaningful metrics for interactions with conference materials, which exist as grey literature that may otherwise go unseen by wider audiences. Building conference collections vary in time and complexity, based on stakeholder needs and overall vision for the conference and its attendees. Creating conference collections that are …

Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL)
In 2017 the Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library partnered with The George Washington University School of Nursing to create a permanent digital archive for their Doctor of Nursing Practice project collection in our instance of Digital Commons. DNP projects are a unique type of content because they provide important research about nursing practices, but often go unpublished elsewhere. The GW DNP collection now contains over 120 items that have been downloaded over 95,000 times and therefore we were eager to explore additional avenues for disseminating this content beyond our IR and its subsequent indexing platforms. In 2018 our library migrated to …

Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL)
Now in its fourth year as an institutional repository, Henry Ford Health's Scholarly Commons has hit its stride, gaining more internal and external readers than ever before. This spring I created and executed a marketing campaign to showcase to Henry Ford Health medical education and hospital leadership the tools in Scholarly Commons that are available to track scholarly activity and promote their research. A primary focus is the repository dashboard, a behind-the-scenes look at usage metrics on a specific department's authors and their works. In this lightning talk I will share my campaign strategy, the tools I used to create …

Background: In 2018 our library migrated to Ex Libris’s Alma and its discovery service Primo. Alma allows content from OAI-PMH compliant archives to be loaded to Primo for discovery. Our library has a Digital Commons institutional repository (IR) system and librarians were eager to explore including IR content in Primo. Post-migration a feed was established between the IR and Primo, but there were issues with adding all IR content and the feed was removed. Consequently, we wanted to explore alternatives that would allow for the integration of more selective IR content.
Description: For our pilot project, we explored the possibility …

Newborn Care Curriculum: Newborn Medications, Lauren Rechtman, Rebekah Conroy
E-Learning Modules
Introduction: Based on a 2014 newborn education needs assessment, 39.6% of surveyed pediatric hospitalists expressed interest in receiving more education on newborn medications, and 94% were interested in computer-based learning modules as the method of learning. Thus, this module was designed to serve as a self-study tool or as a tool for small-group teaching.
Methods: Initially designed for pediatric hospitalists, the module can be used for any learner interested in newborn care as it is meant to provide practical applications to the bedside clinician. This module was first implemented as part of the multimodule Newborn Care Curriculum within the pediatric …

Defining And Adhering To Standards Of Professionalism In Residency, Jeffrey S. Berger, Amanda N. Hopkins, Gurwinder Gill
E-Learning Modules
This resource is a learning module developed for first-year residents to gain exposure to the tenets of professionalism, both in the general practice of medicine and within their own specialty. By completion of this module, each resident will have articulated his or her personal standards of professional behavior and have made a written commitment to strive for those standards in everyday clinical situations.
To evaluate the effectiveness of this module, a brief survey was distributed to current and former residents who had completed the module. The survey presented a series of 10 statements and asked participants to report their level …

Resource To Develop Medical Students Into Peer Mentors, Sean Meredith, Larrie Greenberg, Benjamin Blatt
E-Learning Modules
The primary goal of the Peer Mentoring Guide is to develop fourth year medical students (MS-4s) into mentors for first year medical students (MS-1s). The purpose of this resource is to provide others who want to develop a peer mentoring program as part of an advanced students-as-teachers curriculum.
The George Washington University was one of the first schools to have a program to prepare medical students for their teaching role as residents and practicing physicians, which was called TALKS (Teaching and Learning Knowledge and Skills). We recently recognized that some participants were interested in going beyond the boundaries of the …

Teaching Outbreak Preparedness In The Emergency Medicine Clerkship: An Innovative Approach, Larissa S. May
Teaching Outbreak Preparedness In The Emergency Medicine Clerkship: An Innovative Approach, Larissa S. May
E-Learning Modules
Clinicians should be competent at contagious disease outbreak detection and management. Given the threat of emerging infectious diseases and biowarfare, there is a need to develop instructional methods on these topics. We have created a case-based exercise addressing sentinel case recognition, reporting, and containment. The workshop, conducted for medical students during their emergency medicine clerkship, incorporates the core competencies of systems-based practice, practice-based learning, and patient care. The workshop is held in a hospital conference room with the availability of internet, telephone, and other resources, simulating "real life." A hypothetical case of Ebola presenting to an emergency department is outlined. …
