Nutrition is a foundation of health and one of six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine. The importance of nutrition in clinical care is now widely recognized by health care professionals and the public. However, clinicians are not comfortable counselling their patients on nutrition due to inadequate or lack of training, leaving a significant need in patient care. This gap can be closed with evidence-based curricula in medical schools and in the trainings of other health care professionals. Cognitive and behavioral disabilities in preterm infants, even without obvious brain injury on conventional neuroimaging, underscores a critical need to identify the subtle underlying microstructural and biochemical derangements. Introduction: The regular observation of trainees is essential to ascertain trainee proficiency in competency-based assessments. Unfortunately, observation of residents is not frequent enough to facilitate entrustment decisions, and the busy clinician-educator may not have the tools or time to conduct effective and efficient observations.

Methods: We created a hands-on faculty development workshop utilizing an enhanced variation of the brief structured observation (BSO) technique to train both primary care and subspecialty pediatric faculty on how to effectively and efficiently observe trainees. STUDY OBJECTIVE: To compare residents' perceptions of readiness to perform robotic-assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy with the perceptions of residency program directors in obstetrics and gynecology programs throughout the United States.

DESIGN: A survey was administered to all residents taking the 2019 Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology Exam and concurrently to program directors in all Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited training programs.

SETTING: The survey was designed to assess resident confidence to perform robotic hysterectomies by the time of graduation.

PATIENTS: No patients were included in the study.

INTERVENTIONS: The only intervention was administration of the survey.

Importance: Oral health care faces ongoing workforce challenges that affect patient access and outcomes. While the Medicare program provides an estimated $14.6 billion annually in graduate medical education (GME) payments to teaching hospitals, including explicit support for dental and podiatry programs, little is known about the level or distribution of this public investment in the oral health and podiatry workforce.

Objective: To examine Medicare GME payments to teaching hospitals for dental and podiatry residents from 1998 to 2018, as well as the distribution of federal support among states, territories, and the District of Columbia.

Renal hypoxia has recently been implicated as a key contributor and indicator of various glomerular diseases. As such, monitoring changes in renal oxygenation in these disorders may provide an early diagnostic advantage that could prevent potential adverse outcomes. Blood oxygen level-dependent magnetic resonance imaging (BOLD MRI) is an emerging noninvasive technique for assessing renal oxygenation in glomerular disease. Background: The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) has identified health and wellness as a key practice area in the 21st century, which includes a focus on health care disparities (AOTA, 2019). AOTA has explicitly stated its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (AOTA, 2020b). To our knowledge, there is no evidence discussing the acknowledgement of implicit bias among occupational therapy practitioners, which leads to disparities in health care when left unrecognized and unmanaged.

Objective: To understand the level of awareness of implicit bias among occupational therapy practitioners.

Fifty years ago, Dr. Barbara Korsch published her seminal work on pediatric resident communication skills, demonstrating that residents did not always ascertain the caregivers’ main concern for the visit was and specifically, why those caregivers were concerned.

Repeating her study using a direct observation methodology, the authors evaluated 103 pediatric sick visits at a large children’s hospital primary care clinic to determine 1) if residents elicited the caregiver’s main concern about their child’s acute illness, 2) why they were concerned, and 3) whether asking these questions was statistically associated with caregiver satisfaction, which was determined by an exit survey.

Background: The turnover rate for newly licensed nurses is high, posing financial and resource challenges for healthcare organizations. Transition to practice programs are an effective means of supporting retention. Mentorship is a best practice within such programs as it promotes job satisfaction, professional growth and development, and retention.

Objectives: The purpose of this project was to implement and evaluate a pilot mentor program with new nurses. Background: Type II diabetes continues to be a pervasive issue among African American adults. Significant challenges in effective management have resulted in poor health outcomes that have disproportionately threatened the quality of life among this group and increased the risk of mortality.
