Altmetrics are non-traditional metrics that can capture downloads, social media shares, and other modern measures of research impact and reach. Despite most of the altmetrics literature focusing on evaluating the relationship between research outputs and academic impact/influence, the perceived and actual value of altmetrics among academicians remains nebulous and inconsistent. This work proposes that ambiguities surrounding the value and use of altmetrics may be explained by a multiplicity of altmetrics definitions communicated by journal publishers. INTRODUCTION: There is a bias in the medical community that allopathic training is superior to osteopathic training, despite the lack of substantiation. The orthopedic in-training examination (OITE) is a yearly exam evaluating educational advancement and orthopedic surgery resident's scope of knowledge. The purpose of this study was to compare OITE scores between doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) and medical doctor (MD) orthopedic surgery residents to determine whether any appreciable differences exist in the achievement levels between the 2 groups.

Background: Evidence-based practice (EBP) was introduced to the profession of speech-language pathology in 2004. However, the limited empirical and implementation literature on EBP in speech-language pathology suggests that the field lags behind other healthcare disciplines, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing. Additionally, the limited empirical literature on EBP in speech-language pathology identified a need to know how speech-language pathologists (SLPs) in healthcare 1) defined and described their use of EBP and 2) perceived barriers and facilitators to utilizing EBP in clinical practice.
