Objectives: Information professionals have supported medical providers, administrators and decision-makers, and guideline creators in the COVID-19 response. Searching COVID-19 literature presented new challenges, including the volume and heterogeneity of literature and the proliferation of new information sources, and exposed existing issues in metadata and publishing. An expert panel developed best practices, including recommendations, elaborations, and examples, for searching during public health emergencies.

Methods: Project directors and advisors developed core elements from experience and literature. Experts, identified by affiliation with evidence synthesis groups, COVID-19 search experience, and nomination, responded to an online survey to reach consensus on core elements. Expert participants …

Background: Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) is a multidisciplinary care model for providing care to youth and young adults having their first episode of psychosis. While outcomes of CSC effectiveness are overwhelmingly positive, and widespread implementation has occurred in all US states and territories, what is CSC best practice regarding components and fidelity to the model is not clear. Background: Diminished physical and mental wellness of clinical staff leads to poor patient health outcomes and high turnover rates. Providing designated quiet spaces to practice mindfulness can be beneficial to the overall health of healthcare workers, thus, improving compassion fatigue, job satisfaction, and retention of clinical staff.

Aim: This project implemented a respite room in an ambulatory care practice to improve clinical staff’s self-reported ratings of compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction, and intent to leave their job.

Background: Hispanics are 70% more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes and twice as likely to experience complications related to this disease than non-Hispanic whites (CDC, 2021). Currently there is consistent evidence supporting that community-based educational initiatives called cultural and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS) have a significant impact on Body Mass Index (BMI) in Hispanic populations. The CLAS standards are intended to advance health equity, improve quality, and help eliminate health care disparities. Yet, CLAS has not been implemented in some areas in Dallas, Texas.

Psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) mimic epileptic seizures in their clinical manifestations, but are not associated with an abnormal electrical discharge on electroencephalogram. PNES attacks are often treated and managed as likely epileptic seizures, subjecting the patient to unnecessary anti-seizure medications (ASM). Both epileptic seizures and PNES are common reasons for visiting the emergency department (ED), especially for patients without access to ambulatory care. There is growing evidence highlighting disparities in seizure care in the ED related to race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status (SES). Objective: This project aimed to improve patient satisfaction scores and decrease 30-day hospital readmissions among adult patients at the project hospital by implementing an automated phone call and text message post-discharge follow-up program.

Background: Medical aid in dying (MAID) is a process by which a terminally ill adult with a prognosis of six months or less can request prescription medications to end their life. Colorado’s End-of-Life Options Act requires that two physicians participate in the process to certify terminal illness and prescribe medications. Nearly all rural and frontier counties face shortages of medical professionals. These conditions challenge rural residents who want to access MAID. Advanced practice registered nurses and physician assistants can address gaps in rural and frontier counties; on average, they outnumber physicians in these communities.
