Investigations on chemical thinning of peaches by use of blossom and post blossom sprays have been in progress since the last decade mainly in the United States, Canada, and some European countries. Horticulturists are attempting to find new means to minimize the expense of hand thinning. The high cost of the hand thinning operation has caused many growers to underestimate the importance of this practice, and as a result their orchards have fallen into the biennial bearing habit. In addition, the fruit from un-thinned orchards was not acceptable on the market since it was small in size, lacked color, and …

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars

This circular presents illustrations, descriptions and recommended usage of fourteen introduced cultivated grasses that are worthy of practical consideration in Nebraska. Most of them can easily be identified by comparing plant specimens with the illustrations and descriptions. This circular has been prepared for use by farmers, county agricultural agents, teachers and others who are interested in our most important grasses. Station Circular 59 contains information and illustrations of the more common native perennial grasses of Nebraska.

The experimental work reported herein was planned to determine: 1. The extent and nature of the changes of the relative turgidity (R.T.) of leaves of the potato plant during the diurnal cycle. 2. The extent to which R.T. of potato leaves is influenced by atmospheric conditions, soil moisture, variety and age of plants. 3. The extent to which visible evidence of water shortage in leaves is indicative of water loss from them as revealed by R.T. and the extent to which this relationship varies with different varieties. 4. Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars

The Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station has been working with partridge pea since 1944. Seed has been distributed for tests, and several farmers are now growing it. It is primarily a plant for soil conservation and soil improvement. Its value in comparison with other legumes have not been fully established.
