Analysis Of Interactions Of Nitric Oxide And Polyamine Under Cadmium Stress In Wheat, Fatma Mutlu, Füsun Yürekli̇

Wheat cultivars chosen for their cadmium (Cd) tolerance (Sönmez-2001) and sensitivity (Quality) were grown in Hoagland solution for 20 days and then they were treated with 100 μM 2-(4-carboxyphenyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethylylimidazoline-1-oxyl (cPTIO), a nitric oxide (NO) scavenger, or with 100 μM sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a NO donor, with and without 9 mM Cd. NO, free polyamines, and Cd levels were analysed by using leaf and root samples taken 24 and 72 h after treatment. There was a significant increase in NO level in the Cd+SNP treatment in cv. Under drought stress, a signaling system induces the expression of specific genes to alleviate the harmful effects of drought stress. The BZIP gene is a transcription factor in the signaling abiotic stresses and plays a role in the regulation of responses to different stresses in plants. The P5CS gene controls the activity of the proline-5-carboxylate synthase enzyme that is involved in proline synthesis in drought stress conditions. In this study, the potential of Landoltia punctata for petroleum phytoremediation was evaluated. L. punctata was treated with different concentrations of Batman crude oil (BCO). The plants were grown in nutrient solutions containing 0.5%, 1%, 2%, and 3% BCO by volume in a growth chamber for 7 days. The fresh weight of the plants in the presence of BCO at a concentration of 0.5% v/v increased by 60% relative to the initial fresh weight. Aeropalynological Survey In Büyükorhan, Bursa, Aycan Tosunoğlu, Si̇nan Babayi̇ği̇t, Adem Biçakçi

An aeropalynological survey of the atmosphere of Büyükorhan in Bursa Province was carried out from January 2012 to December 2013 using a Durham gravimetric sampler. The number of pollen grains per cm^2 was calculated on a weekly basis. Over 2 years a total of 13,274 pollen grains/cm^2 from 44 taxa, including 24 arboreal plants (APs) and 20 nonarboreal plants (NAPs), and unidentified pollen grains were recorded. In 2012 and 2013, respectively, 5159 and 8115 pollen grains were recorded. The pollen grains consisted of 87.46% APs, 12.20% NAPs, and 0.35% unidentified plants. A New Species Of Bondarzewia From India, Kanad Das, Arvind Parihar, Manoj Emanuel Hembrom

Bondarzewia zonata, collected from North Sikkim, is proposed here as new to science. It is characterized by basidiomata with strong zonate pilei, thin context turning persistent dark red with guaiacol, comparatively small spores with narrow ornamented ridges, and an absence of cystidioles. A detailed description coupled with macro- and micromorphological illustrations of this species is provided. Its relation to the allied species is discussed and a provisional key to the species of Bondarzewia is given.

This study describes and assesses the influence of the particular features of microhabitats on the abundances of lichen species. The research was performed in 4 natural reserves: Seaca-Movileni, Badeana, Harboanca-Brahaşoaia, and Balteni (all within Vaslui county). The distribution of lichen species abundances was investigated in 20 cm × 20 cm sampling units at a height of 1 m above the ground. In the studied area 27 lichen species were sampled in 81 sampling units. Cluster analysis indicated both similarities and dissimilarities between the natural reserves investigated. A new species of Teucrium L., Teucrium aladagense Vural & H.Duman, is described from Aladağ mountain, located in Adana, Kayseri, and Niğde provinces in Turkey. The species belongs to Teucrium L. sect. Stachyobotrys Benth. A description, distribution map, habitat, information on trichome morphology, and the threatened category of the species are provided. The differences between the new species and its allies T. lamiifolium d'Urv s.l. and T. hircanicum L. are discussed, and an identification key is provided for the identification of similar taxa.

Detailed parameter sensitivity, model validation, and regional calibration of the Hybrid-Maize crop model were undertaken for the purpose of regional agroclimatic assessments. The model was run at both field scale and county scale. The county-scale study was based on 30-yr daily weather data and corn yield data from the National Agricultural Statistics Service survey for 24 locations across the Corn Belt of the United States. As part of its north-south movement following introduction to Canada, Hydrocharis morsus-ranae L. (Hydrocharitaceae) has recently become established in slow-moving waters of the Champlain/Adirondack region of the northeastern US. The species is present on both the New York and Vermont shores of Lake Champlain and, so far, at a single location in the interior of the Adirondack Park. The southernmost Champlain/Adirondack occurrence is in the Champlain Canal south of Whitehall, NY (L. Zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) is one of the most important pathogens that cause significant yield losses in many cucurbit crops including cucumber (Cucumis sativus L). ZYMV resistance in cucumber is inherited by a single recessive gene. The purpose of this study was to identify molecular markers linked to the gene conferring ZYMV resistance in cucumber. We developed a population of 188 F2 plants derived from inbred cucumber lines. Individual F2 plants were self-pollinated to generate F3 populations. The EXP1 gene encodes expansin, which has the ability to loosen the plant cell wall. The soybean expansin gene GmEXP1 is activated specifically during the root elongation process, and thus it plays important roles in root development. During the drought period, changes in pressure within the cell and the fast development of the root allow plants to collect water from deep soil, which in turn helps plants grow and develop. Cold stress is a major environmental factor in plant life cycles. Nicotiana benthamiana, which belongs to the family Solanaceae, is one of the most commonly used model species in plant-microbe interaction studies. In total, 5205 differentially expressed genes were identified under cold stress in N. Benthamiana. Of these, 5029 were upregulated and 176 were downregulated within four time periods (4 h, 12 h, 24 h, and 48 h). The common up- and downregulated genes were identified as 692 and 6, respectively. This study comprises an investigation into the floral function in relation to the floral structure of Periploca aphylla and P. Angustifolia, using light and scanning electron microscopy. Both species display the following floral structures: style-head bearing pollen translators, shelf-like nectaries, staminal feet, nectar-collecting troughs, trisegmented corolline corona lobes and corolla lobes, and anthers and nectaries covered by unicellular hairs. Lateral segments of adjacent corona lobes are fused with half of the adaxial base of the adjacent corolla lobes, creating openings through which pollinators can reach the nectar-collecting troughs in the corolla base. The systematic position of the monotypic genus Ekimia H.Duman and M.F.Watson (Apiaceae), a narrow endemic to Turkey, was evaluated on the basis of morphological data and nrDNA ITS sequences. Ekimia bornmuelleri (Hub.-Mor. And Reese) H.Duman and M.F.Watson was initially described in Prangos Lindl. Due to the unique fruit morphology uncommon for this genus it was later shifted to an independent genus. In the Bayesian and most parsimonious trees, E. Bornmuelleri is sister to Laserpitium petrophilum Boiss. And Heldr and Laserpitium glaucum Post within the Daucinae clade. Salvia L. İn its traditional circumscription is the largest genus within the mint family. To date, the magnitude of the task has rendered it difficult to provide a genus-wide revision based on morphological data. Current molecular investigations based on a dense taxon sampling representing the whole phenotypic diversity and distribution range of Salvia confirmed that the genus is polyphyletic. The genus Metrodorea (Rutaceae), with 6 species, has representatives that vary from small shrubs to tall trees, and its leaf sheaths make it unique in the family; it is restricted to South America, with species diversity concentrated in Brazil. In this study, we applied Bayesian and parsimony methods to infer the molecular phylogeny of Metrodorea, and cladistic biogeographic methods to propose an area cladogram for the genus. All results supported Metrodorea as monophyletic, and the presence of leaf sheaths is reinforced as its key diagnostic feature. Aristolochia altanii İlçim and Behçet sp. Nov. İs described from Turkey and illustrated. The specimens were collected from Kahramanmaraş in South Anatolia. The new species is closely related to A. Guichardii and A. Brevilabris. However, this species differs in some important characteristics, such as the length of the pedicel and the perianth, the indument of the perianth limb, and the micromorphology of the pollen and the seeds. The diagnostic characters are discussed and taxonomic comments are presented.

A computer-based image database for freshwater algae recorded in Turkey has been established. A separate page was prepared for each algal taxon and each page includes images and taxonomic and ecological information related to the taxon. Algal images were obtained mainly from authors of algal studies previously carried out in various freshwater bodies in Turkey. Data were then standardized in accordance with that of the central database of Turkish herbaria and a database for Turkish freshwater algae, which were previously established through TÜBİTAK projects. DNA-based markers have the potential to improve the efficiency and precision of breeding programs based on marker-assisted selection. In the present study we evaluated the predictive abilities of previously reported PCR-based simple sequence repeat and functional markers related to fragrance in a set of 24 rice genotypes, including traditional basmatis, evolved basmatis, and aromatic indigenous landraces. High-resolution melting analysis with 3 markers was also performed to detect the presence of SNPs and length polymorphism in monomorphic amplicons. Isolation And Expression Analysis Of Ethylene Receptor Genes From Melon(Cucumis Melo) Fruit, Yaşar Karakurt, Nazan Gökteki̇n, Hali̇me Ünlü

Ethylene receptors are involved in ethylene sensing and signal transduction. This study was conducted to isolate genes encoding ethylene receptors from melon fruit and to determine their expression during postharvest fruit ripening. The amplification of melon fruit cDNA with degenerate primers revealed two partial cDNAs. Upon 3' and 5' RACE analysis of the cDNAs, two full length genes designated Cm-ETR1 and Cm-ETR2 were obtained. Cloning and sequencing of the genes showed that Cm-ETR1 and Cm-ETR2 genes were 2320 and 2537 bp in length, respectively. Paracaryum Bingoelianum (Boraginaceae), A New Species From Turkey, Lütfi̇ Behçet, Ahmet İlçi̇m

Paracaryum bingoelianum Behçet & İlçim is described as a new species. It is confined to Bingöl in Eastern Anatolia, Turkey. Paracaryum bingoelianum is closely similar to P. cristatum subsp. cristatum and P. kurdistanicum. It mainly differs from them in that it has a shrub-like woody base and numerous stems with sterile shoots, longer corolla, and bigger nutlets. The diagnostic characters are discussed and taxonomic comments are presented. Seed and pollen characteristics were investigated using light and scanning electron microscopy. Notes on its ecology are also presented. A distribution map of the new and related species is provided.

Germins and germin-like proteins constitute a ubiquitous family of plant proteins and have a role in the defense against pathogen attacks. In the present work the Oryza sativa germin-like protein 1 (OsGLP1) and putative germin A (OsGerA) promoter regions of five Pakistani rice varieties were analyzed for variations in expression regulation of these promoters and similarity with others germin and germin-like protein promoters. Phylogenetic analyses showed that the studied OsGLP1 promoters were tightly clustered around the ancestral group while putative OsGerA clustered around the descendant group. Prosthechea Tinukiana Sp. Nov. (Orchidaceae: Laeliinae): An Update Of The Prosthechea Prismatocarpa Complex, Diego Bogarin, Adam P. Karremans

We describe and illustrate a new species of Prosthechea from Costa Rica. The species is similar to Prosthechea ionocentra, but it is easily distinguishable by its inflorescence originating from the penultimate mature pseudobulb; its purple spotted sepals and petals; the cordate, acute labellum; the disc with two longer, narrower keels; the stigmatic arms of the column, which are convergent and rounded; and the narrower stigma. Differences from other related species are given and discussed. Data on distribution, habitat and ecology, etymology, and phenology are provided. An updated key to the species of the Prosthechea prismatocarpa complex is presented.
