New Hybrids Of Verbascum (Scrophulariaceae) From Turkey, Karel Sutory

Two new hybrids of Verbascum (Scrophulariaceae) are described. Verbascum x obtusifoliiforme nothosp. nova (V. obtusifolium Hub.-Mor. x V. sinuatum L.) from İçel province (C4) and Verbascum x kovadanum nothosp. nova (V. glomeratum Boiss. x V. nudatum Murb.) from Isparta province (C3). In both cases, one of the parent species is widely distributed, while the other is locally distributed in Turkey.

Seasonal Distribution Of Phytoplankton In Orduzu Dam Lake (Malatya, Turkey), Ahmet Kadri̇ Çeti̇n, Bülent Şen

The species composition and seasonal distribution of phytoplankton in Orduzu Dam Lake was studied for a year. Diatoms (Bacillariophyta) were most diverse, followed by green algae (Chlorophyta), blue-green algae (Cyanophyta), euglenoids (Euglenophyta) and dinoflagellates (Dinophyta). A total of 117 taxa were recorded and the phytoplankton of the lake contained a large number of detached benthic algae. Phytoplankton assemblages were dominated by diatoms in all the periods investigated and centric diatoms were the most abundant. We revised the section Hololeuce Bunge of the genus Astragalus L. (Leguminosae) in Turkey. The section used to contain 20 taxa in Turkey, but in this study it has been reduced to 15. A new species (Astragalus dumanii Ekici & Aytaç) has been described. In addition, we concluded that A. vuralii H.Duman & Aytaç, A. cylindraceus DC., A. alindanus Boiss., A. paecilanthus Boiss. & Heldr. and A. squalidus Boiss. & Noë are synonyms of A andrasovszkyi Bornm., A. globosus Vahl, A. hirsutus Vahl, A. sibthorpianus Boiss. and A. amoenus Fenzl respectively. A Floristical Study On Poaceae Spp. Growing Naturally In Malatya Province, Turan Arabaci, Bayram Yildiz

This study includes species of Poaceae (Gramineae) growing in Malatya province. According to the grid system used in the Flora of Turkey, the research area is situated in the B6, B7, C6 and C7 squares. Approximately 346 plant specimens were collected from the area. At the end of the study 89 species (101 taxa) belonging to 47 genera were identified. Species' totals of the larger genera in the study area as follows: Bromus L. 10, Elymus L. 6, Aegilops L. 6, Hordeum L. 5, Alopecurus L. 4, Poa L. 4, and Stipa L. 4. Thidiazuron (TDZ) is among the most active cytokinin like substances and induces greater in vitro shoot proliferation than many other cytokinins in many plant species. Leaf, stem, stem node and cotyledonary node explants of 2 extensively cultivated Turkish lentil cultivars, Ali Dayı and Kayı 91, were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) media supplemented with various concentrations of TDZ. The present study was conducted to develop a rapid and efficient shoot regeneration system suitable for the transformation of lentil (Lens culinaris Medik.) using TDZ. This study presents investigations into the morphological, anatomical and ecological features of Tulipa armena Boiss. var. lycica (Baker) Marais. T. armena var. lycica, an endemic species which was collected from the Eskişehir, Alpu-Bozan plantation area and from Kunduzlar Dam and its environs. The species is a new record for Eskişehir. For morphological studies a description and illustrations of T. armena var. lycica are given. The morphological differences were compared with the Flora of Turkey. Trachystemon orientalis (L.) G.Don (Boraginaceae), which is distributed in various habitats in the Black Sea region, was investigated morphologically and anatomically. The flowering branches, leaves and rhizomes of T. orientalis are used as food. This species is a Euro-Siberian floristic element. The genus Trachystemon D.Don is represented by one species in Turkey. In the morphological study it was observed that the species have a perennial root. The rhizome is blackish and 6-10 cm. The stem is 25-50 cm tall and erect. Ditrichum pusillum (Hedw.) Hampe has been collected for the first time from the Western Black Sea region of Turkey. A description of the species is given, along with notes on the ecology and a discussion of the phytogeographic significance. This note will provide better knowledge of the moss flora of Turkey.

A Study On Algae In Devegeçidi Dam Lake, Tülay Baykal, İlkay Açikgöz, Kazim Yildiz, Aysel Bekleyen

This research was carried out between 1995 and 1996 in Devegeçidi Dam Lake and a total of 112 taxa belonging to 5 divisions were identified, with 29 species belonging to Cyanophyta, 5 to Euglenophyta, 45 to Chlorophyta, 5 to Pyrrhophyta and 28 to Bacillariophyta. Microcystis aeruginosa Kütz. from the Cyanophyta was the most abundant and widespread species in phytoplankton. This was followed by Aphanizomenon floss - aquae (L.) Ralfs and Aulacoseira granulata (Ehr.) Simonsen as the second most abundant and widespread organisms. New Record For A Dinoflagellate Species (Citharistes Regius Stein) In The Northern Levantine Basin (Eastern Mediterranean), Sevi̇m Polat

The presence of a dinoflagellate species, Citharistes regius Stein belonging to genus Citharistes Stein, is reported for the first time from the eastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey. This species is also a first report for all Turkish seas and the Levantine Basin. Morphological characteristics of this species are described in detail and information about its ecological distribution is given.

The flora of the Elmalı Cedar Research Forest (Antalya) was investigated. From the research area, 1296 samples were collected between September 2000 and September 2002. Of the 1296 samples, 83 represent families, 320 represent genera and 689 represent species that have been identified. The total number of species, subspecies and varieties of taxa was 708. In the analysed samples, 3 species were new to the scientific world. Twenty-eight of the taxa were collected for the first time from square C2. Flora Of The Karagöl-Sahara National Park (Artvin) And Its Environs, Özgür Emi̇nağaoğlu, Rahi̇m Anşi̇n

The vascular flora of the Karagöl-Sahara National Park and its environs (Şavşat, Artvin, Turkey) was assessed between 1997 and 2002. In the area under review, 872 taxa belonging to 364 genera and 91 families were identified. Of the 872 taxa, 21 Pteridophytes and 851 Spermatophytes were detected. Spermatophytes also contained 7 Gymnospermae and 844 Angiospermae taxa. The richest 3 families are Compositae with 90 taxa (10.2%), Leguminosae with 77 taxa (8.9%) and Gramineae with 60 taxa (7.0%). The richest genus is Astragalus L. (21 taxa) followed by Campanula L. (15 taxa). The rates of taxa included in certain phytogeographical regions …

Two taxa, R. raphanistrum L. subsp. rostratus (DC.) Thell. and Campanula hierosolymitana Boiss., collected from southern Anatolia are described as a second records for the Flora of Turkey. Different taxonomists had collected these taxa from Turkey, but these collected samples were not identified correctly. These samples were not recorded in the first or sixth volume or the other 2 supplements of the Flora of Turkey in spite of these misidentifications having been published in different papers. Evidence from chloroplast trnK and nuclear ribosomal ITS sequences and morphological data reveals that the monotypic legume genus Wajira is nested within a clade comprising the species of Vigna subgen. Macrorhynchus. This Wajira-containing clade is basally branching in a larger clade that contains many of the genera traditionally referred to as tribe Phaseoleae subtribe Phaseolinae. Wajira is thus recircumscribed to include Vigna subgen. Macrorhynchus. Given the heterogeneity of floral morphology of its constituent species, Wajira is apomorphically diagnosed by woody stems and a pollen brush that comprises an introrse linear array of unicellular hairs.
