Ecological Wood Anatomy Of Turkish Rhododendron L. (Ericaceae). Intraspecific Variation, Nesi̇me Merev, Hakki Yavuz
Turkish Journal of Botany
The intraspecific relationships of selected wood anatomical characters such as altitude, stem diameter, stem age and average annual ring width were investigated in five different Turkish Rhododendron L. species. Rhododendron luteumSweet. grows at an altitude of 110 to 2230 m, R. ungerniiTrautv. 900 to 2020 m, R. smirnoviiTrautv. 1600 to 2230 m, R. caucasicumPallas 1900 to 3100 m, and R. ponticumL. from sea level to 2230 m in the Eastern Black Sea Region. Although the degree of significance varies between species, correlation and multiple regression analysis indicated a significant correlation between wood anatomical characters and non-anatomical factors.

Germin-Like Oxalate Oxidase Activity Increase In Auxin-Treated Wheat Coleoptiles, Mahmut Çalişkan, Andrew C. Cuming
Turkish Journal of Botany
Oxalic acid or more commonly its salts, oxalates, are widely distributed throughout the plant kingdom. Oxalic acid is generally considered an inert product of metabolism and its accumulation is toxic to tissues. Therefore, the enzymes degrading oxalic acid have received considerable attention. Oxalate oxidase is an oxidoreductase which degrades oxalate into CO_2 and H_2O_2 . Recently, oxalate oxidase was shown to have high amino acid homology with germin proteins and at the same time cereal germin proteins were shown to have oxalate oxidase activity. Germin gene expression was shown to be auxin responsive. It was well demonstrated that coleoptile cells …
Structure Of The Stigma And Style In Capsicum Eximiumand The Effects Of Pollination, A. Naci̇ Onuş
Structure Of The Stigma And Style In Capsicum Eximiumand The Effects Of Pollination, A. Naci̇ Onuş
Turkish Journal of Botany
Since the stigma surface provides the first point of contact for pollen grains, the initial pollen-pistil interaction takes place between these two structures. It is, therefore, important to understand the stucture of the stigma, as well as the style, in order to reveal the nature of pollen-pistil interaction. The aim of this study was to gather more information about interactions between pollen and pistil in Capsicum eximium A.T.Hunz Solanaceae by studying immature, mature unpollinated and mature pollinated styles. It was found that most features of the stigma and style of C. eximiumresembled those of other genera in the Solanaceae.
