The Boraginaceae Of Utah, Larry C. Higgins

This paper presents a revision of the family Boraginaceae for the state of Utah. Ninety-three species in seventeen genera are recognized. The treatment includes keys, synonymy, descriptions, and citations of representative specimens found in the various herbaria in the state of Utah. The new combination Lappula occidentalis (Wats.) Greene var. cupulata (Gray) Higgins is presented.

The Hyobranchium And Throat Myology Of The Adult Ambystomidae Of The United States And Northern Mexico, John E. Krogh, Wilmer W. Tanner

The 16 species and subspecies of the Ambystomidae of the United States are placed into six groups according to their throat morphology as follows: The Dicamptodon group, the Rhyacotriton group, the A. Annulatum–A. cingulatum group, the A. gracile-A. jeffersonianum-A. mabeei-A. macrodactylum-A. maculatum group, the A. talpoideum group, the A. opacum-A. texanum group, and the A. rosaceum-A. t. tigrinum-A. t. melanostictum-A. t. nebulosum group. Dicamptodon appears to be the most primitive group and Rhyacotriton the most specialized. Based on the morphology of the throat region it is suggested that A. rosaceum be placed in the tiger salamander group as a subspecies …

Understory Characteristics Related To Site Quality For Aspen In Utah, James H. Warner, Kimball T. Harper

An analysis has been made of the basic ecology of aspen forests of the mountainous areas of Utah and northern Arizona. Forty-nine study areas have been examined in respect to density, height and age of the tree cover, tree reproduction, and composition and biomass production of the understory. A graphic model of interspecific assocations among prevalent understory species has been prepared by a cluster-analysis procedure based on presence and absence of species in 1,225 small quadrats (0.25 m2) uniformly distributed among the 49 stands. The model separates species of relatively stable as opposed to rapidly seral aspen forests. …

This paper constitutes the first in a series of terminal reports to the United States Atomic Energy Commission for Contract AT (11–1) 1496. It includes a major study on the ecology and life history of Sceloporus occidentalis longipes Hollowell and a comparative study of three populations of Uta s. stansburiana Baird and Girard with special emphasis given for the Uta population on Rainier Mesa.

The tribe Carphodicticini, the genera Carphodicticus, Periocryphalus, and Phelloterus, and 101 species are described as new to science. Notes on the habits of Cladoctonus boliviae (Wood), Mimips mimicus Schedl, and Styphlosoma granulatum Blandford are included; and the female of Styphlosoma granulatum Blandford is described. A Flora From The Dakota Sandstone Formation (Cenomanian) Near Westwater, Grand County, Utah, Samuel R. Rushforth

A Cretaceous (Cenomanian) flora from the Dakota Sandstone Formation near Westwater, Grand County, Utah contains an admixture of ferns and angiosperms. The ferns of this flora are representative of an older Jurassic-Wealden vegetational type, whereas the angiosperms are typical of the modern vegetational type. Species of Gleichenia and Matonidium and Astralopteris coloradica represent the dominant forms in this flora.
The Westwater flora contains fourteen genera including nineteen species and one variety. New species described from this flora include Asplenium dakotensis, Coniopteris westwaterensis and Ilex serrata.

The area of study is located in northern central British Columbia and includes the Sustut Basin and surrounding mountains. The physiography and geology of the region is described and the plant communities are enumerated. An annotated list of 205 species, 11 subspecies, and 35 varieties collected during the summer of 1969 is included.

This publication is a revision of Ixodid Ticks of Japan, Korea, and the Ryukyu Islands by Keegan and Toshioka (1957). The tick fauna of these areas is represented by 36 species in the genera Argas, Ornithodoros, Amblyomma, Boophilus, Dermacentor, Haemaphysalis, Ixodes, and Rhipicephalus. Three species of the family Argasidae and 10 species of Ixodidae were not treated in the original edition. The additional information contained in this revision was derived from field collections and a thorough review of the literature. Keys are provided for the identification of genera and species. The area of study is located in the northern panhandle of the Yukon Territory, and includes the British and Barn Mountains, Old Crow Flats, and the coastal plain of the north slope. The physiography and geology of the region is described and the plant communities are enumerated.
