As students of the LeTourneau University WHEELS team, we are recording outcomes measures of the Bledsoe-Extender-Plus© knee brace. Using the GAITRite© mat, several skills tests and a questionnaire, this comparative study will investigate differences in gait performance for students wearing the brace locked at 10° and 0° flexion1.

Background: Obesity is an independent risk factor for chronic disease. The prevalence of obesity is especially high among Mexican-American children. Peripheral blood monocytes contribute to systemic inflammation and may mediate the relationship between obesity and chronic disease. Obesity affects monocytes and the circulating levels of cytokines/chemokines that influence monocyte behavior. Purpose: investigate alterations in blood monocytes and plasma cytokines/chemokine levels among healthy weight (zBMI ≤ 85th percentile; N=66), overweight (zBMI=85th-95th percentile; N=23), and obese (zBMI ≥ 95th percentile; N=39) Mexican-American children. PURPOSE: To examine physiological responses to concurrent resistance and land treadmill training (RT-LTM) compared to concurrent resistance and aquatic treadmill training (RT-ATM) and the chronic effect of each on serum TNF-α and IL-6 (cytokines associated with chronic inflammation, CVD, and skeletal muscle metabolism). METHODS: Twenty-six untrained subjects (M: n=13, 98.6±17.1kg, 182.2±6.2cm, 34±11yrs, F: n=13, 78.9±14.0kg, 165.1±5.1cm, 38±11yrs) were screened to assess VO2max, body composition (DEXA), and strength (Lifts: leg press, chest press, leg curl, lat pull, leg ext, triceps push-down, biceps curl). In the last several decades, there has been a wave of interest in the overweight/obese population in the United States. However, little research has focused on the association between exercise barriers and psychological needs in college-aged Mexican-American females. PURPOSE: To investigate the relationships between exercise barriers, psychological needs for exercise, and obesity among college-aged Mexican-American females. METHODS: Body fat measures were recorded on 91 female students (M = 22.8±5.1). The Exercise Benefits and Barriers Scale (EBBS) was used to determine perceived barriers. Ground-Based Model for Lunar Disuse Bone Loss
During spaceflight, astronauts are susceptible to decrements in bone mineral density. This suscetibility leaves astronauts at an increased risk of fracture and compromises their likelihood of repeat missions. Our ground-based Lunar model simulates disuse bone loss. Through our novel exercise regimens, we were able to mitigate losses seen by group members not exercised.

Purpose: While it is known that exercise improves health by reducing systemic inflammation, potential mechanisms remain to be elucidated. The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of fitness and adiposity on the anti-inflammatory melanocortin system as a potential mechanism by which exercise reduces inflammation. Methods: Forty-one men and women (35-55yr), who were free from cardiovascular disease, inflammatory disorders, and not taking medications that affect inflammation, were recruited. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between strength gain in bench press and spirometric parameters of sedentary women submitted to a circuit resistance training (CRT). 14 healthy and non-trained women 39.8 ± 3.9 years, 60.6 ± 6.6 kg and 163.6 ± 6.6 cm were submitted to a CRT. The objective of the present study was to compare the influence of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) technique, utilizing diagonal patterns of the Kabat method for upper limbs (UL) on cardiorespiratory and metabolic variables during a ramp-type ergospirometry test with (R-ET). 9 healthy sedentary men, were subjected to complete ckeck-up and R-ET on a cycloergometer, with power increments of 20W/min until physical exhaustion, before and after an eight-week intervention period. The aim of this study was to assess the aerobic capacity of men after acute myocardial infarction (G-AMI) and of healthy sedentary men (G-C) at the anaerobic threshold (AT) and at the peak of the exercise (up to physical exhaustion) during a ramp-type ergospirometric test (R-ET). Methods: 22 volunteers divided into two groups: G-AMI (n=10), 55.6 ± 9.7 years old, undergoing β-blocking therapy (atenolol, dosage 46 ± 9.4 mg/day), Killip classification grade I, and G-C (n=12), 53.3 ± 3.2 years old. The aim of this study was to compare two methods of body composition evaluation in postmenopausal women, and establish correlations with the Body Mass Index (BMI). Twenty seven postmenopausal women (58.03±5.33) were evaluated by two body composition methods: Bioimpedance (Biodynamics 310) and Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA). Results of the fat mass showed by the DXA was 38.21±7.46% of the body mass, and 39.05±4.40% by the Bioimpedance, with 0.76 of correlation (Perason’s correlation test). In the other hand, the BMI found was 28.08±4.90. There was a high correlation between DXA and Bioimpedance; however low correlation between DXA and Bioimpedance with …
