In this study, 1H NMR spectroscopy was used to discriminate Gemlik olives cultivated in a protected designation of origin (PDO) region from those cultivated in non-PDO regions. For this purpose, 95 Gemlik olive samples (47 from PDO and 48 from non- PDO regions) were collected. 1H NMR spectral analysis was carried out on the oils extracted from these olive samples. The results of the partial least squares-discriminant analysis showed that olives from the PDO and non-PDO regions could be discriminated on the basis of their NMR profiles. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the hedgerow system is the main raspberry growing system, which has no clearly-defined standards regarding plant density and fruit-bearing potential per meter of hedgerow. This study evaluates the effect of precision cane meristem management in growing major floricane red raspberry cultivars in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During 2015 and 2016, in Willamette, Meeker, and Tulameen, grown under the hedgerow system, mixed buds were selected on fruiting laterals with the fruitbearing potential of 80, 100, and 120 well-developed and well-positioned mixed buds per meter of hedgerow. Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Apple (Malus × domestica Borkh.) genotypes originating from different plant collections (field collection, in vitro plant collections undergoing or not undergoing cryopreservation) were screened and characterized by SSR markers. Shoot tips excised from plants grown in vitro were successfully cryopreserved by encapsulation-dehydration. The highest regrowth frequency (69%, cultivar Goldrush) of cryopreserved apices was achieved after 24 h of osmoprotection in 0.5 M sucrose, 3 h of desiccation, and 24% water content of alginate beads. No differences in morphological characteristics including shoot length and number and length of roots were observed between controls and plants recovered after cryopreservation. SSR markers were …

The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of capsaicin application in different doses (0.0, 0.1, 1.0, 10.0, 25.0, 50.0, 100.0, and 200.0 ppm) on the germination, seedling growth, and yield of pepper plants (Capsicum annuum L. 'Burdem'). For this purpose, capsaicin was applied at several stages: (i) to the pepper seed before sowing, (ii) to the leaves during the 3rd to 4th true leaf stage for seedling quality evaluation, and (iii) to the leaves before planting in a greenhouse. In a pilot study, a biological control with hypovirus-infected Cryphonectria parasitica was applied in 3 study plots in Turkey, in June 2013. The aim of this study was to evaluate the success of the applied biological control by verifying the establishment of the released hypovirus (CHV-1) strains using molecular markers. C. parasitica isolates were sampled from cankers at 3 different time points: before the biological control treatments (April 2013), and 5 months (October 2013) and 11 months (May 2014) after the treatment. Stone fruits are well known for their high nutritional value. Therefore, in horticulture, the micropropagation of suitable rootstocks is vital for their cultivation. The aim of the present study was to improve the micropropagation protocol of Myrobalan 29C (Prunus cerasifera Ehrh.) rootstock using shoot-tip culture. Murashige and Skoog (MS) basal medium containing 2 mg L-1 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) and 0.05 mg L-1 gibberellic acid (GA3) resulted in the highest number (14.3) of multiple shoots. Honeysuckle berries are becoming an attractive organically grown fruit with many aspects as a new functional food. They have the benefit of containing health-promoting compounds, such as saponins, ascorbic acid, iridoids, flavonoids, and anthocyanins. Fruit berries can be processed into many products with various contents of selected bioactive compounds. The contents of individual compounds were identified with the aid of high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrophotometry. Effect Of Rootstocks On Phytochemical Properties Of Apricot Fruit, Müttali̇p Gündoğdu

The phytochemical influence of rootstocks on the Hacıhaliloğlu apricot cultivar was examined in this study. Myrobolan 29-C, Myrobolan GF-31, Marianna 2624, Pixy, and Tokaloğlu rootstocks were used and organic acid, sugars, vitamin C, total antioxidant capacity, and phenolic compounds were identified. The highest phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity were observed in Tokaloğlu rootstock. While Myrobolan GF-31 stood out in terms of organic acids and vitamin C, Pixy stood out in terms of sugar. The highest sugar content (sucrose) was recorded as 24.178 mg 100 g-1 in 'Pixy'. This study reports the response to salinity stress (100 mM, 200 mM, and 300 mM NaCl concentration) exposure of the commercially valuable medicinal plant Stevia rebaudiana during micropropagation for 4 weeks. The significant enhancement of physiological parameters, steviol glycosides (SGs), i.e. rebaudioside A and stevioside, as examined by high-performance liquid chromatography, and nonenzymatic antioxidant activities, i.e. total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, total antioxidant capacity, total reducing power, and DPPH-free radical scavenging activity, was observed during the shoot formation process under up to 100 mM NaCl stress. The root lesion nematode Pratylenchus spp. is one of the most important plant-parasitic nematodes causing global cereal yield losses. Effective management of plant-parasitic nematodes depends on reliable management strategies and comprehensive datasets estimating the distribution, abundance, and population change of nematode species. This study reports the occurrence of Pratylenchus neglectus in wheat-growing districts during the 2014/15 and 2015/16 cropping seasons in Bolu, Turkey. Pratylenchus neglectus was identified by both morphological and molecular methods. The nematode was detected in 11.6% of samples collected from five districts. This research was carried out to assess the biochemical diversity of the fruits of mulberry genotypes grown in Muş Province in the eastern Anatolia region and to determine the genotypes available for breeding. Morphological and biochemical characteristics of 13 mulberry fruit genotypes, including 5 white (Morus alba) and 8 black (Morus nigra), were determined. Fruit antioxidant capacity was determined by Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity assay. In this study, the kraft pulps of European black pine (Pinus nigra Arn.) and European aspen (Populus tremula L.) were fractionated according to fiber length in a Bauer McNett classifier and effects of fiber fractionation on paper properties were investigated. Bauer McNett screens used for European black pine and European aspen were 16, 30, 50, and 100 mesh and 30, 50, 100, and 200 mesh, respectively. This study compared the postharvest quality of Hicaznar pomegranate fruit unpackaged and packaged with 5-kg or 12-kg bags of two different modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) materials (X5, X12, L5, and L12) during 6 months of storage at 6 °C. The fruits were also evaluated during a simulated shelf life period at 20 °C for 7 days after each cold storage period. Durum wheat genetic resources from Turkey and Syria are expected to harbor novel alleles for most traits that are of interest to breeders and consumers. However, there have not been sufficient efforts to investigate the genetic structure of this gene pool. In this study, cultivar Kunduru-1149 (selected from one of the unique landraces, Kunduru) from Anatolia was crossed with a Syrian cultivar, Cham1, to produce recombinant inbred lines (RILs) for quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis. The Sudan grass plant (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench subsp. drummondii) density and yield were determined in this 2-year research with different tillage systems and fertilization at 3 locations. After harvesting the main crops, 3 tillage treatments were applied: conventional (CT) mouldboard ploughing (25-30 cm deep), followed by disk harrowing and sowing: reduced tillage 1 (HDH) with 2 passes by a disk harrow (15-20 cm deep), followed by seedbed preparation, and reduced tillage 2 (LDH) with a single pass by a disk harrow. Nematode-resistant clonal rootstock use is limited in Turkey. Throughout a 3-year-study (2012-2014), targeted rootstock candidates were obtained through hybridization between almond and plum cultivars. Some characteristics, such as strong growth ability, compatibility with other almond cultivars, nematode resistance, and rooting of the cuttings were common among the hybrid types. Allicin, one of the most important flavor compounds in garlic bulbs, is affected by genotypic characteristics modified by ontogenesis, environmental conditions, fertilization practices, and storage duration. In this study, the genetic diversity of 90 avocado (Persea americana Mill) cultivars from Antioquia (Colombia) was compared to 67 germplasm collection accessions using 14 microsatellites. An average of 4.32 ± 2.0 alleles per locus was found, as observed in previous studies. The expected and observed heterozygosity ranges were 0.384-0.724 and 0.393-0.686, respectively. The Antioquian avocados were genetically structured according to an analysis of molecular variance test (fixation index (FST) = 0.054, P < 0.00001). An unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean (UPGMA) dendrogram with FST paired data produced 2 clusters: one composed by Antioquian avocados and the other by the germplasm collection. Another UPGMA dendrogram with individual Nei-Li distances and additional STRUCTURE analysis separated the Antioquian avocados into 3 clusters (K = 3). Combining samples from the Colombian and germplasm collections produced K = 2. Genetic differentiations between the Antioquian and worldwide avocado germplasm collection could be due to crosses within the Antioquian avocados having been enhanced by insect pollinators, whereas avocados stored in the germplasm collection were constituted by cultivars with known genetic origins. Findings from this study demonstrated that criollo avocado genetics are unique in Antioquia, since the species has been naturally crossed in the field and its closest accession is from Guatemala. Nevertheless, it is important to continue genotyping this species in other locations in Colombia from Sylvester and cultivar populations of this crop to determine its origin.
