A Comparative Analysis Of The Volatile Components Of Green Tea Produced From Various Tea Cultivars In China, Lin-Long Ma, Dan Cao, Yan-Li Liu, Zi-Ming Gong, Pan-Pan Liu, Xiao-Fang Jin

China is a major producer and consumer of green tea and possesses numerous high-quality tea cultivars, which can be used to make green tea. However, the green teas produced from these tea cultivars vary markedly in aroma. In this study, a sensory evaluation method and headspace solid-phase microextraction combined with GC-MS were employed to determine the primary substances that contribute to the aromas and key differences in the aroma components of green tea produced from 20 tea cultivars. Effects Of Cooking And Extra Virgin Olive Oil Addition On Bioaccessibility Of Carotenes Intomato Sauce, Merve Tomaş, Osman Sağdiç, Gi̇zem Çatalkaya, Derya Kahveci̇ Karincaoğlu, Esra Çapanoğlu Güven
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In this study, the effects of cooking and the addition of extra virgin olive oil on the in vitro bioaccessibility of carotenoids in tomato sauce were evaluated. The results indicated that total antioxidant activity, α-tocopherol, lycopene, β-carotene, lutein, and chlorophyll a contents were positively affected by the combination of cooking and addition of extra virgin olive oil. Moreover, after in vitro digestion, for intestinal phase, lycopene and Β-carotene were observed in all samples, whereas α-tocopherol and chlorophyll a were not detected in any of the samples. Lycopene (≈8.5-fold) and β -carotene (≈5-fold) were significantly improved (P < 0.05) by the effect of cooking and addition of extra virgin olive oil to the samples compared to control tomato sauce (without oil and cooking).

In the present study, the effects of mistletoe (Viscum album L.) on the physiological properties of drupe trees were investigated. In order to achieve this goal, sulfhydryl, chlorophyll a and b, total chlorophyll, ascorbic acid, total amino acid, proline, carotenoid, glucose, and fructose levels, as well as leaf proportional water contents were determined in both mistletoe and its hosts under laboratory conditions. According to the results, mistletoe caused a significant decrease in water content and reduced total ascorbic acid content in apricot, almond, and plum. The effects of smoke solutions derived from wheat straw on the germination, seedling growth characteristics, and biochemical content of grass pea (Lathyrus sativus L.) were examined in this study. The smoke solutions were applied to petri and pot media at different concentrations. Both experiments were conducted in a randomized plot design with 3 replications. Autotetraploid rice is a new germplasm resource obtained by doubling chromosomes through colchicine treatment. There have been many studies on the reproductive characteristics of autotetraploid rice, but little is known about global DNA variations and reasons for low embryo sac fertility in autotetraploid rice. Therefore, an autotetraploid rice line (T446) was used for resequencing and embryo sac fertility was observed. Whole-genome resequencing data revealed 87,229 SNPs and 11,022 InDels in the genome of T446 versus E246 (diploid rice), which had an average of 23.37 SNPs and 2.95 InDels per 100 kb. The present study aimed to determine the rate of microsporidiosis in larvae and adult beetles in Calosoma sycophanta L. (Coleoptera: Carabidae) mass-rearing laboratories. Eighty larvae and 7420 adults of C. sycophanta were dissected from the mass-rearing laboratories and investigated for the presence of microsporidiosis. Microsporidiosis was determined in all localities. Four hundred and forty-one adults of the dissected insects were found to be infected and the total infection rate was 5.94%. A total of 80 C. sycophanta larvae from Balıkesir and Isparta examined in 2016 showed no microsporidiosis. The infection ratio was varied among populations and years. The total infection …

The Southwest Alaska Inventory and Monitoring Network includes bald eagle monitoring as part of their Vital Signs Monitoring Plan. Lake Clark National Park and Preserve, Katmai National Park and Preserve, Kenai Fjords National Park, and Wrangell – St. Elias National Park and Preserve monitor bald eagles annually, albeit slightly differently among parks. Since monitoring decisions involve multiple objectives and stakeholders, there was a need for a structured approach to identify an optimal monitoring program. From 2000 to 2017, maternal deaths in the Philippines considerably decreased. With COVID-19, the mechanisms to ensure safe pregnancy and childbirth for mothers have been greatly challenged. To find possible means by which women can access health care services remotely, the study looked into the factors affecting Filipino women’s utilization of maternal health care services using the 2017 Philippine National Demographic and Health Survey. Bamboo shoots, a promising renewable biomass, mainly consist of carbohydrates and other nitrogen-related compounds, such as proteins, amino acids and nucleotides. In this work, nitrogen self-doped activated carbons derived from bamboo shoots were prepared via a simultaneous carbonization and activation process. The adsorption properties of the prepared samples were evaluated by removing methylene blue from waste water. The factors that affect the adsorption process were examined, including initial concentration, contact time and pH of methylene blue solution. Ongoing habitat loss and intensification of management of remaining grasslands have led to large population declines of grassland songbirds in North America. As an alternative to intensive and homogeneous use of rangelands, patch-burn grazing creates heterogeneity in vegetative structure across the landscape by restoring the historical interaction of fire and grazing by large ungulates. Patch-burn grazing can increase diversity and abundance of grassland songbirds, but effects on local breeding density and territory size remain unknown, despite both being important in regulating population dynamics of species. Analysis of continuous sap flux and stem growth measurements can help to elucidate how environmental conditions influence water status and stem growth in trees. Stem radius variations and sap flux densities of the drought-tolerant conifer Cedrus libani were measured using automatic point dendrometers and heat dissipation sensors, respectively. The study was conducted at the Elmalı Cedar Research Forest at 1665 m a.s.l. From April to September 2009, stem radius variation was measured hourly for nine C. libani trees. Tree growth, productivity, fruit quality attributes, and antioxidant activity were tested in apple cultivar Idared under different fertilization treatments from the 22nd to the 23rd year after planting in a heavy acidic soil under western Serbian conditions. Treatments included the use of aged cattle manure, compound NPK (15:15:15) mineral fertilizer, a multinutrient fertilizer commercially named Italpolina (ITP) (NPK + organic carbon + humic acids), two types of N mineral fertilizers (calcium ammonium nitrate [CAN] and urea), and control (no fertilization). In Turkey, quince (Cydonia oblonga Mill.) is found as both a wild and a cultivated tree species. The Karanlıkdere Valley is a pit area between Şefaatli and Yerköy districts in Yozgat Province that originates from the River Delice. Members of the Yozgat Karanlıkdere Valley quince population, containing 17 quince accessions and 15 commercial quince cultivars, were DNA fingerprinted using 30 simple sequence repeat (SSR) primers to identify the genetic relationships among them. This study evaluated 7 inbred lines of maize (Zea mays L.), 3 testers, and 21 hybrids produced using the line × tester mating design. The study was conducted in Konya, in The Central Anatolia Region of Turkey. CD (coefficient of determination) values were calculated to detect the effect of inbred lines on grain yield and other physiological properties of the test crosses. Soil compaction is a great problem since it affects crop growth and yield. The causes of soil compaction are the management practices in agricultural production. Terrestrial light detection and ranging technology provides an accurate measurement of individual tree parameters that are essential for managing forest resources, modeling forest fires, planning forest operations, etc. This study aimed to measure individual tree parameters to model a single tree using terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) data. A high-resolution digital terrain model (DTM) was generated using point cloud data (2,800,430 points) to obtain the tree parameters. WRKY transcription factors, being involved in several biological roles, stimulus signaling, and stress response, could be interesting candidates to prospect, particularly in the Citrus unshiu (Satsuma mandarin) genome. Our approach, mainly based on computational analyses, led to the identification of 51 CiuWRKYs followed by their molecular characterization. Syntenic relationship analysis showed significant bias towards sweet orange and Arabidopsis chromosomes. Analyses of promoter region showed that CiuWRKY1 modulates gene transcription through W-box site targeting. The deduced CiuWRKY1 protein was moderately hydrophobic. The effects of moisture content, internode region, and oblique angle on several mechanical properties of sainfoin stem were determined. The selected mechanical properties used were the shearing stress, specific shearing energy, bending stress, and modulus of elasticity when bending. The experiments were carried out with wet basis (WB) moisture contents of 71.76%, 45.57%, and 25.57%, at the third and second internode regions from the bottom up to the top, and 2 oblique angles (0° and 28°). The present study aimed to enhance the production of camphor and phenolic compounds and cell growth using methyl jasmonate (MeJA) and salicylic acid (SA) in the cell suspension culture of Turkish endemic species Achillea gypsicola. This study was carried out in 2015 and 2016 to investigate the use of ethephon and mepiquat chloride for reduction of damage to flowering and fruit set caused by late spring frosts in Black Diamond plum. The single treatment of mepiquat chloride delayed full blooming by 5 days, while the ethephon treatment delayed blooming by 7 days. The interactive effect of the chemicals yielded more positive results in the delay of blooming, causing a delay of up to 11 days. An increase in fruit set was observed along with blooming.
