Effects Of Some Plant Residues On Nitrogen Mineralization And Biological Activity In Soils, Emi̇ne Erman Kara

The objective of this experiment was to determine the rate of decomposition and nitrogen mineralization of plant residues in soil under laboratory conditions. The experiment consisted of six treatments: control, industrial tobacco residues, rice straw, rice straw + mineral nitrogen, rice husks and rice husks+mineral nitrogen. The plant materials were added at a rate of 2000 mg/kgC and the amount of NH 4 + -N completed the C:N ratio of the added materials to 12.5. After adding the plant material the following measurements were carried out: soil respiration measurements 14 times, dehydrogenase activity 14 times, mineral nitrogen (ammonium and nitrate). …

Impacts Of Turkey's Integration Into The European Union On Agriculture In The Post-Uruguay Round Environment, Cemal Atici, P. Lynn Kennedy
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Agricultural trade policies between Turkey and the European Union are modeled using a political preference function (PPF). The PPF is used to estimate the producer and consumer weights perceived by policy makers. The agricultural effects of Turkey's integration into the European Union (EU) and optimal strategies for Turkey and the EU are analyzed Results show that Turkey' s PPF values will be lower, with respect to agriculture, when it joins the EU; however, EU trade liberalization benefits Turkey.

Effect Of Different Rootstocks On Fruit Characteristics Of Some Apple Cultivars, Sezai̇ Erci̇şli̇, Muharrem Güleryüz, Mürüvvet Pami̇r
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
This study was carried out to evaluate the effects of three rootstocks on yield and some fruit properties in apple cultivars grown in Erzincan plain for two successive years. In both years the highest fruit weights were recorded in seedling rootstocks (158.2 g and 170.1 g). The effect of the rootstocks on fruit height in 1995 and 1996 was significant but the effect on fruit diameter was not. The highest fruit height (67.14 and 68.89 mm) and fruit diameter (72.40 and 73.69 mm) were obtained in seedling rootstocks. The effects of rootstocks on fruit firmness were inconsistent in both years. …

This study was carried out in Amasya during 1994 and 1995. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of various chemical applications before harvest on epidermal characteristics related with fruit cracking in some sweet cherry cultivars (0900 Ziraat, Lambert and Van). The trees of the cherry cultivars were sprayed with GA 3 (20 ppm), NAA (1 ppm), GA 3 +NAA (20+1 ppm), NAA+Ca(OH) 2 (1 ppm+0.7%), GA 3 +Ca(OH) 2 (20 ppm+0.7%) and GA 3 +NAA+Ca(OH) 2 (20 ppm+1ppm+0.7%) 30-35 days before harvest. The suitability was determined of Kazova Agricultural Farm soils for land utilization types, both those in use and those with a potential for use. Simple Limitation and Şenol Land Evaluation Methods were used. The results from the Simple Limitation Method showed that the Yeşilırmak and Eğertepe series are permanently unsuitable and the Mera series is currently unsuitable for all of the determined land utilization types. While the çaylı and Obalar series are marginally suitable for the land utilization types, the İşletme series is moderately suitable. Relationship Between Leaf Area Index At Anthesis And Yield In Wheat Under Çukurova Conditions, Müjde Koç, Celaleddi̇n Barutçular

Wheat yields are closely related to leaf area index (LAI) at anthesis. The optimum leaf area index differs according to genotype and location conditions. Three field experiments were conducted to determine the pattern of the relationship between LAI at anthesis and yield in Çukurova , a region with an acclerated ear and grain growth. Different genotypes, seeding density and nitrogen doses were used to create a range of LAI. Biological yield (BY) and grain yield (GY) increased quadratically in response to LAI values, with greater responses for BY (R 2 =0.46**) than for GY (R 2 =0.35**). As LAI increased …

In this research, the effects of cheese size and amount of brine on the salt absorption of white Pickled cheese were investigated. After manufacture, cheeses were portioned into sizes of 7x7x7±1 and 7x7x11±1 cm. Then these samples were salted for 5 hours in different brines of the same concentration (14 %) but in different amounts (s and 2s). This research was conducted in the Small Fruits Implementation Area belonging to Çukurova University Agricultural Faculty Horticultural Department during the 1999 vegetation period. Nessy, Chester Thornless, Oregon Thornless and Jumbo blackberry cvs. were used. Pollen viability levels in these cultivars were determined by using TTC and FDA staining tests. In addition, the effects of 50, 100, 200 and 400 ppm concentrations of Ca(NO 3 ) 2 , MgSO 4 , KNO 3 and H 3 BO 3 on pollen germination were investigated. The aim of this study was to determine the available and slowly available potassium capacity of soil samples collected from the Kahramanmaraş plain. Slowly available potassium content was determined by the HCl extraction method. Slowly available potassium was found at between 3 and 46 mg 100 g^{-1} at a depth of 0-15 cm, 1 and 33 mg 100 g^{-1} at a depth of 15-30 cm and 1 and 25 mg 100 g^{-1} at a depth of 30-45 cm. This study was carried out to determine the effect of planting density on yield, quality and productive energy consumption for photoperiodic lighting in Gypsophila paniculataL.'Perfecta' growing under unheated plastic greenhouse conditions for 4 cropping seasons, at the Horticultural Research Institute (Erdemli, İçel-Turkey), during 1992-1994. The aim of this study was to compare the fallow efficiencies of shallow and deep soil profiles and to examine the effects of nitrogen fertilization on the grain yields in continuous wheat and fallow-wheat systems in the Ankara Region. In this study, in order to determine optimum conditions for peroxide reinforced oxygen delignification of wheat straw organosolv pulps, five experiments were carried out changing the alkali ratio, peroxide charge and reaction time. After the statistical evaluations of the data obtained, optimum delignification conditions were found to be as follows: NaOH ratio 6%, H_2O_2 ratio 2.5%, reaction temperature 80 ^oC, reaction time 60 min., oxygen pressure 10 kg/cm^2 , concentration 16%. Ten sample trees obtained from the Düzce region were tested for bending, impact bending, compression, hardness, Cleavage and Shear strength. The relationships between strength and density were investigated. The results obtained were as follows: average density value 0.52 g/cm^3.
