Laboratory and field feeding tests with Leptoglossus occidentalis Heidemann proved that both immature and mature seed bugs can use cones and foliage of whitebark pine, Pinus albicaulis Engelmann, as a food source for 1- to 2-week periods. Damage to unprotected whitebark pine cones by seed bugs ranged from 0.3 to 2.1 % of seeds per cone, and for bagged cones averaged 0.7% of seeds per cone. Total insect damage ranged from 0.4 to 7.2% of seeds per cone. A seed chalcid, Megastigmus sp., was documented for the first time on whitebark pine and damaged 4.7% of examined seeds at one …

The Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) describes the physical, biological, social, and economic resources that would be potentially affected by leasing of the Iron Point and Elk Creek Coal Lease tracts as well as issuing an exploration license for an area within and surrounding the Iron Point Coal Lease Tract. The federal decisions to be made involve the approval or disapproval of coal leasing (the Iron Point and Elk Creek tracts) and of an exploration license. The purpose of the report is to provide information to Congress to determine if it is feasible and desirable to add the Great Western Trail to the National Trails System. From 1993-1995 Forest Service crews conducted an intensive archaeological inventory of the Dutch John Area, Daggett County, Utah. Seventy seven archaeological sites were identified within the exchange boundary. Thirty three sites were determined to be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Between April 1995 and September 1998 testing and excavation of the significant sites proceeded as outlined in the Dutch John Mitigation Plan. This volume reports the results of those excavations.
