The Effects Of Nikethamide And Dyprophylline Combination On Some In Vivo Haemodynamic Parameters, Cavi̇t Kum, Yusuf Şanli

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, nikethamide (N) and dyprophylline (D), which are thought to improve the possibility of survival and enhance the pharmacodynamic effects on several haemodynamic parameters, were evaluated in respiratory deficient animals. For this purpose, 32 mongrel dogs aged 2-4 years were randomly divided into four equal groups. The drugs were administered intravenously to the dogs, following respiratoric suppression, which was formed by the administration of xylazine-thiopental sodium and restriction of oxygen. Haemodynamic measurements were conducted before, at the time of application (20 mg/kg N, 20 mg/kg D, 20 mg/kg N + 10 mg/kg D and 20 mg/kg N + …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of this research was to establish whether the dietary preferences of perch (Perca fluviatilis L., 1758) change due to age and the seasons. Food items were examined by the Geometric Index of Importance (GII) method. The results obtained from this index were also evaluated in relation to seasonal and age-dependent variables. It was observed that the dietary preferences of perch do not change with age and the seasons.

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The effect of L-carnitine supplement on the growth performance of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fingerlings was investigated. One group was fed normal commercial grow-out feed (the control group) while the other group was given feed containing 500 mg kg^{-1} L-carnitine. The addition of carnitine (the second group) had a positive effect on growth (7.9% higher than the control group). According to the final results, the carnitine-supplemented group had greater final weights (151.86 ± 27.19 g) than those of the control group (141.80 ± 24.83 g) (P < 0.05). This enhancement in growth was not due to a better feed conversion ratio (1.16 ± 0.31 vs. 1.20 ± 0.28) (P > 0.05). At the end of the feeding period of 90 days, 9.67% less feed …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Urtica dioica L. has become a very important plant, with beneficial effects on human health all over the world. In this study, the possibility of using U. dioica L. as an ingredient in Turkish sucuk was investigated. Turkish sucuk with U. dioica L. was evaluated in terms of its chemical, physical, and sensory attributes. The results showed that the level of U. dioica L. (0%, 1%, 3% and 5%) and ripening period (0, 3, 7, 10 and 14 days) had a significant effect on the moisture, pH, residual nitrite, L* and +a* values of sucuk (p < 0.01). +b* values were affected more by the ripening period (p < 0.01) than by the level of U. dioica L. (p < 0.05). Sensory evaluations showed that the addition of U. dioica L. to sucuk (cooked and uncooked) effected the sensory attributes compared with the control sucuk.

The Effects Of Replacing Fish Oil With Vegetable Oils In Starter Feeds On The Liver Fat Composition Of Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus Labrax L., 1758), Mustafa Yildiz, Erdal Şener

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The effects of replacing fish oil with soybean oil, sunflower oil, corn oil and olive oil in starter feeds on the vicerosomatic index, hepatosomatic index and liver fatty acid composition of the sea bass were studied. Juvenile sea bass (initial weight = 7.58 ± 0.13 g) were fed experimental diets for 75 days. The fish were then killed and liver samples were collected. The lowest total crude fat value (17.61%) was found in the fish fed the fish oil diet. The highest total crude fat value (34.30%) was found in the fish fed the olive oil diet (P < 0.05). Similarly, the fish fed the fish oil diet had the lowest hepatosomatic index value (2.08) and all the fish fed vegetable oils had similarly high hepatosomatic index values (P < 0.05). Likewise, vicerosomatic index values were lowest (9.06%) in the fish fed fish oil and highest in the fish fed soybean and other vegetable oils (P < 0.05). Fatty acid analyses showed that EPA and DHA from n-3 HUFA's in the fish fed the fish oil diet, linolenic acid (18:3n-3) and linoleic acid (18:2n-6) in the fish fed the soybean oil diet and oleic acid (18:1n-9) in the fish fed the olive oil diet were higher than in the fish fed the other diets.

Fish fed with L-glutamic acid (1% of diet) and DL-alanin (1% of diet) supplemented diets had greater weight gains (54.23 ± 1.51 g and 55.03 ± 1.69 g, respectively) than those fed with a control diet (47.59 ± 1.83 g) (p < 0.05). It was found that the groups fed with 1% of attractant-supplemented diets had better food conversion ratios (1.11 and 1.13, respectively) than the control group (1.22) (p < 0.05). It was also found that the wet weight gain and food conversion ratios of the groups fed with 2% L-glutamic acid and DL-alanine were similar to those fed with the control diet and 1% attractant-supplemented diets (p > 0.05).

The growing and toxin-producing ability of strains of Staphylococcus aureus producing enterotoxin A (SEA 10652 FDA 196E), B (SEB 10654 FDA 243), C (SEC 10655 137) and D (SED 10656 494) were investigated in çiğ köfte (a raw ball prepared by the hand-kneading of lean ground-beef, fine bulgur and a variety of spices). For this purpose, çiğ köfte samples prepared under experimental conditions (Group I containing enterotoxin A, Group II containing enterotoxin B, Group III containing enterotoxin C, Group IV containing enterotoxin D, and Group V (mix) containing enterotoxins A, B, C, and D) were separately contaminated by strains of …
