Effects Of Source And Concentrations Of Nitrogen And Carbohydrate On Ruminal Microbial Protein Synthesis, M. Aki̇f Karsli, James R. Russell
Effects Of Source And Concentrations Of Nitrogen And Carbohydrate On Ruminal Microbial Protein Synthesis, M. Aki̇f Karsli, James R. Russell
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The objective of this review was to discuss microbial protein synthesis and the effects of sources and concentrations of nitrogen and carbohydrate on microbial protein synthesis. Even though ammonia-N is a satisfactory source of nitrogen for the growth of the majority of rumen microbes, substitution of intact protein for urea usually stimulates ruminal microbial protein synthesis. While protein sources high in degradable intake protein (DIP), such as soybean meal, appear to have properties that optimize microbial protein synthesis, protein sources low in DIP, such as fish meal, appear to limit microbial protein synthesis apparantly because of the low ruminal digestibility …

Expression Of Subunits Of Ampa-Type (Ionotropic) Glutamate Receptors In The Rat Spinal Cord, Mümtaz Nazli, Zafer Soygüder, Ahmet Çarhan
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The distribution of ionotropic glutamate receptor subunits (GluR1-4), considered a-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isaxole propionic acid type (AMPA-type), was investigated in the rat spinal cord by immunocytochemistry. Different distributions of the AMPA-type glutamate receptor subunits were observed in the spinal cord. Immunolabelling with antibodies to both GluR1 and GluR2/3 revealed intensive staining in the dorsal horn, while staining for GluR2/3 and GluR4 revealed dense motor neurones in the ventral horn. These results suggest that in the rat spinal cord AMPA-type glutamate receptors vary in composition according to the region where they are expressed.

The histologic and histomorphometric evaluation of wrapping the facial nerve by a lyophylized duramater (LD) or autogenous omental graft (AOG), on nerve regeneration, after experimentally induced facial paralysis, which was created by neurectomy and repaired by autogeneous sural nerve grafts in dogs, was undertaken. The experimental design was reported. At the end of the observation period, specimens harvested from the main trunk of the facial nerve arising from the stylomastoid foramen, the repaired site and three branches of this nerve were examined histologically and histomorphometrically with respect to myelin area, axon number and nerve fiber diameter. Reduced fibrosis and improved …

The reduction of the laminectomy membrane (LM) with synovial fluid soaked absorbable gelatin sponge (SSAGS) after laminectomy was investigated. Modified laminectomy of the first and second lumbar vertebra and concomitant full length durotomy were carried out in 16 mongrel dogs of different ages and sex. Two pieces of absorbable gelatin sponge (AGS-Gelfoam, Upjohn), soaked with 2 ml of synovial fluid taken from the shoulder joint, were implanted into the laminectomy defect in 8 dogs. Two pieces of AGS were implanted into the laminectomy defect in the control group of 8 dogs. Animals were allocated to 4 groups, each consisting of …
