In this study which includes the species Gymnetron asellus Gravenhorst, G. pascuorum Gyllenhal, Hypera farinosa Gyllenhal, H. nigrirostris Fabricius, H. pastinacae Rossi, H. variabilis Herbst, Sibinia femoralis Germar, S. syriaca Faust, Tychius breviusculus Desbrochers, T. meliloti Stephens, T. quinquepunctatus Linneaus and T. squamulatus Gyllenhal from the genera Gymnetron, Hypera, Sibinia and Tychius, the keys to species, morphological descriptions, World and Turkey's distributions and their hosts are given, the male genital characters of these species are discussed on the level of species and other categories.

In this study, the keys, morphological descriptions, World and Turkey's distributions and their hosts of the species Ceuthorrhynchidius horridus Panzer, Ceuthorrhynchus (Glocianus) albovittatus Germar, C. (Mogulones) javeti Ch. Brisout, Ceuthorrhynchus (s. str.) picitarsis Gyllenhal, C. (s. str.) similis Ch. Brisout, C. (s. str.) sulcicollis Paykull, C. (Hadroplantus) trimaculatus Fabricius and Zacladus asperatus Gyllenhal are given. The male genitalia are illustrated with the figures and described. The male genital characters of these species are discussed on the level of species and other categories.

In this study, Mabuya vittata specimens from Northern Cyprus was examined in terms of morphological characteristics in detail with abundant amount of material (19 males, 9 females, 4 juv.). Moreover, the biological and ecological features of the species were described. The results were compared with the results of previous researches (14, 16, 17), working on the Anatolian population of the species. An Evaluation On The Fauna Of Vespoidea (Hymenoptera, Aculeata) Of Turkey, Along With New Records And New Localities For Some Species, Erol Yildirim, Hi̇kmet Özbek

Studies so far conducted in Turkey on the species of Vespoidea were reviewed. Including the new taxa determined in this study, a total of 234 species and 48 subspecies belonging to 51 genera have been recorded in Turkey so far. The new records for Turkish fauna are Alastor esfandiarii Giordani Soika, Brachyodynerus kopetdagicus Kostylev and Ischnogasteroides picteci tenuis (Morawitz) in the family Eumenidae. Important diagnostic characters of these species and subspecies are described and shown in figures. In this review, especially the hydrological condition of eastern, north-eastern Mediterranean and İskenderun Bay have been described under the light of oceanographic studies carried out in the region up to date. The reasons for immigration of Lessepsiyen species to the Mediterranean and their invasion routes have been explained. Reasons of a new Scyphomedusae (Rhopilema nomadica) bloom in İskenderun Bay and its possible effects on the regional fisheries and economy have also been discussed.

In this study, the periodic changes in density and population structure, the generation number, reproduction characteristic and reproduction period of Artemia salina (L., 1758) living in Tuz Lake in 1995 have been investigated. Some physical parameters of lake water at the certain stations have been determined. In this study some ecological studies were carried out on the local populations of Ancylus fluviatilis Müller 1774, from March 1995 to March 1996. Temperature of water, pH, conductivity, oxygen values, structure of ground, faunal and floral features of each localities' were investigated monthly, and as well as the effects of these ecological factors on the distribution of this species, the population density, structure and growth. Also same ecological surveys were realised on the 3 freshwater stations where this species is absent and compared with the other localities.

Reproduction characteristics and fecundity of A. salina living in Tuz Lake were studied during 1995. In Tuz lake no male individuals. It has been detected that parthenogenetic Artemia population consist only female individuals and it reproduces by oviparously. But it is noticed that a few individuals caught in June was reproduced ovoviviparly. In the fecundity analysis it has been determined that increasing total lenght of Artemia, the number of the eggs are also increases and decreases depending on the increase of salt concentration.

According to % GSI and egg diameter, reproduction periot of M. cephalus was determined to be on September and October mounth. Minimum % GSI obtained for M. cephalus was % 4.14 on June mounth and maximum % GSI was % 20.08 on July and % 17.26 on October. Avarage egg diameter of M. cephalus ranged between minimum 0.15 and maximum 0.69 mm. The egg diameters on September and October are 0.69 and 0.65 mm. .

The age composition of 415 specimens of Dicentrarchus labrax caught from Akgöl-Paradeniz Lagoon, between February 1992 and July 1994, ranged between 0.-X. age groups.. The II.nd ages group of D. labrax is dominant in all individuals with a rate of 32.05 %. Average fork lenght according to ages group of D.labrax is ranged between 177,14 mm. and 700,0 mm. It was determined that age-lenght, age-weigth and length-weigth relationships and condition factors according to age groups of all, male and female of 235 Liza ramada caught from Akgöl- Paradeniz Lagoon. Age composition ranged between I and V age groups. I.age group is the dominant one in all individuals with a rate of 30.64 %. Fork lenght value of Liza ramada ranged between 148 mm. mininimum and 355 mm.maximum. Observations On The Reproduction And Feeding Biology Of Lacerta Laevis (Sauria: Lacertidae) Gray, 1838, Kurtuluş Olgun

In this study, the feeding behaviours of the new hatched eggs which were laid to the terrarium by one of the 18 Lacerta laevis samples collected from Mersin (Fındıkpınarı) were observed and the development of these eggs over 103 days period were investigated. In conclusion the number of the eggs laid by one of the lizards were six, the mean size of eggs were 8.03 x 12.25 mm. and the mean body length of the young, that were hatched after 47 days, was 77.77 mm. at the first day and was 89.14 mm. at the end of 56 th day.

504 specimens of age composition of age composition of Mugil cephalus caught from Akgöl- Paradeniz Lagoon ranged between I.-VII. ages. According to the ages Mugil cephalus groups dispersion were determined that individuals in III years old were dominant ( % 29,76 ). The Mugil cephalus specimens consist of % 52.33 female and % 46.67 male. Average fork lenght for III.. years age is 293,79 mm. and average weight of them is 31, 47 g.. Maximum annual lenght increase is 62,13 mm. for III. age group and maximum annual weight increase is 263,73 g. for VII. age group were determined.

The organisms in the contents of digestion system from 145 individuals of the brond-snout (Chondrostoma regium Heckel, 1843 Pisces: Cyprinidae) caught from Suat Uğurlu Dam Lake between April, 1993-March, 1994, have been studied by using the number and appearance frequency methods. Consequently, it is determined that 99.92% of the total diet of brond-snout is composed of Bacillariophyta and the 0.08% is of zooplanktons.

Distributions and relative abundances of the Eledone cirrhosa and Eledone moschata species exist in Aegean Sea were analized by considering the seasonal data obtained in bottom trawl between 1991 and 1993. According to these result, it was determined that both species have different distribution features in Aegean Sea, both vertically and horizontally. Depending on depth it's evident that E.cirrhosa in various size prefers the stratum in different depth. Whereas E.moschata distributes relatively in the depth of 0-100 m. The Effects Of Malathion Alkaline Phosphatase Activity In The Liver, Kidney And Small Intestine In Mice, Egemen Dere, Sevtap Bakir, Ati̇lla Atalay

The effects of malathion on alkaline phosphatase activity in the liver, kidney and small intestine was investigated. Malathion doses of 40 mg kg^{-1} were injected intreperitonally (I:P) into mice. At 0, 4, 8, 16 and 24 hours after treatment with malathion, mice were decapitated and tissues were removed. Homogenate of the tissues was centrifugated at 48000xg for 30 minutes. The supernatant was used as an enzyme source. It was found that the malathion increased alkaline phosphatase activity in the kidney and decreased alkaline phosphatase activity in the liver and small intestine.

Effect Of Synthetic Juvenile Hormone C-16 On The Adult Diapause In Anacridium Aegyptium L., Gürsel Ergen, Erdoğan Er

In this study, two different concentrations (10.000 ppm, 15.000 ppm) of synthetic juvenile hormone (SJH) C-16 were topically applied to the diapausing adults of Anacridium aegyptium L. (Orthoptera: Acrididae). The treatment of SJH at two concentrations induced yolk deposition and terminal oocytes growth. The findings showed that development of the eggs was directly proportional with the concentrations of SJH. Concentration of 15.000 ppm was found more effective than 10.000 ppm. Therefore, we have concluded that (SJH) C-16 can terminate adult reproductive diapause in A. aegyptium.

Accumulation of zinc and copper in the spleen, brain and muscle tisses of Tilapia nilotica was investigated by using copper (0.1, 0.5 and 1.0 ppm) and zinc (1.0, 5.0 and 10.0 ppm) and copper-zinc mixture (0.1+1.0, 0.5+5.0 and 1.0+10.0 ppm) in the medium for the periods of 30 and 60 days. In this study, the differentiation in the lateral neurosecretion cells of pars intercerebralis of brain, depending on the different ecdysteroid contents which was determined in the hemolymph of silkworm by radioimmunoassay has been studied using light microscopy. The brains of silkworms in the time of low and high hemolymph ecdysteroid content were fixed in Bouin solution, and the cross sections were stained with PAF after dehidratation. In this study, the effect of water on growth (wet weight gain), food consumption, feces quantity, digestive activity and glycogen level of Gryllus bimaculatus female adults was investigated by doing the experiments of feeding and starvation. Wheat bran was given for feeding. All parameters were found to be significantly higher in insects feeding with water than those feeding without water. This study observed a population of Ambystoma opacum in Kanawha State Forest, Kanawha County, five miles south of Charleston, West Virginia. Data were collected from September 1995 to November 1997. Reproductive biology and salamander development were examined. Predation of A. opacum and potential predators were also noted. Like other species in the genus Ambystoma, adult A. opacum are mostly fossorial and rarely seen above ground outside of the breeding season. Due to increasing pressure from Ohio River bass anglers with regard to decreasing catch rates in 1981,1990, and 1997, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) initiated a study of black bass populations. The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO), in conjunction with state and Federal agencies, has collected population data on Ohio River fishes at lock chambers and has measured various water quality parameters since 1957. Dogway Fork, a tributary of the Cranberry River in West Virginia, is acidic due to acid precipitation and poorly buffered soils. This study is part of a long-term investigation involving the effects of continuous limestone neutralization on the fishes and benthos of an acid stream. Prior to treatment in 1988, the stream had a pH of 4.5 and there were no fish present. Since treatment began, the pH of the stream has risen to 6.8. To find interacting proteins, a mouse kidney cDNA library was screened with domain I of rat laminin β2 using the yeast two-hybrid system. Fifteen positive clones were found. The DNA sequence of three each of these clones corresponded to the phosphoprotein Eps8 (epidermal growth factor receptor pathway substrate clone 8, which is tyrosine phosphorylated after EGF stimulation) and the intermediate filament (IF) protein keratin. The purpose of this thesis research was to study the natural history of the northern spring salamander Gyrinophilus p. porphyriticus in West Virginia. The objectives of this study were to determine the environmental characteristics of the habitat of Gyrinophilus p. porphyriticus, to determine its reproductive biology, and then examine non-reproductive aspects of the natural history of the species. Study sites were located at the Westvaco Wildlife and Ecosystem Research Forest (WWERF) in Randolph County, West Virginia. Four sites on three streams were divided into two 25m transects. We determined effects of different levels of human disturbance on small mammal richness and relative abundance from live-trapping data obtained in Itasca State Park in northwestern Minnesota. We developed a quantitative measure of human disturbance based on disturbance units and trapped small mammals on three study sites, each reflecting a different level of disturbance. Our data revealed that small mammal diversity decreased with increasing human disturbance. Amount of ground cover and litter depth also appeared to be important in explaining differences in the demographic patterns of small mammals among sites.
