Taxonomical Comparison Of Populations Of Podarcis Muralis (Sauria: Lacertidae) In Ankara And Bursa, S. Hakan Durmuş

Turkish Journal of Zoology

In this study, the samples of the populations from the Ankara and Bursa regions have been examined, for the first time, from the comparative taxonomic point of view. After comparison of the two separate populations, which are quite far away from each other, it has been seen that the above mentioned populations do not show important differences from each other at the species level. However, some nuance in body size have been noticed between these two populations. Hence, we may say that P. muralis populations in the Ankara and Bursa regions are not different from the nominate subspecies (P.m. muralis).

Investigations On The Ornitho - Fauna Of Turkish Thrace I, Mustafa Kaya, Selçuk Yurtsever, Cengi̇z Kurtonur

Turkish Journal of Zoology

In this study, the results of observations made in different localities (Edirne and environs, the Istranca Mountains, Iğneada and environs) of the Thrace region are evaluated. Field work was carried out during the period 1987-1996, comprising a total of 228 working days in the field. The findings were discussed and compared with data currently available in the literature. As a result, 179 species belonging to 50 families were recorded. These species and related data are collated in a table. The importance of the region and the problems that threaten the ornito-fauna are discussed.

Morphological Investigation Of Rana Ridibunda (Anura: Ranidae) Populations In The Black Sea Region, Yusuf Kumlutaş, Murat Tosunoğlu, Bayram Göçmen

Turkish Journal of Zoology

In this study, a total of 115 Rana ridibunda specimens (64 males ; 51 females) from the Black Sea region (10 localities) have been investigated. Morphometric measurements of the samples and some of their ratios derived from them comprise the morphological investigation together with pattern and coloration analyses. It was found that the populations examined belong to the nominal subspecies of R. r. ridibunda.

The Benthic Fauna And Some Limnological Aspects Of Lake Akşehir (Konya), Mustafa Sözen, Si̇bel Yi̇ği̇t

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The qualitative and quantitative aspects of benthic fauna of Lake Akşehir were studied along with monthly changes. Benthic samples were taken monthly from nine different stations between July 1992 and June 1993. It was determined that the benthic fauna of the lake consist of five animal groups: Insecta, Oligochaeta, Crustacea, Nematoda, Mollusca and 27 genera of these. It was found that the annual mean value of benthic fauna as the animal number per m2 was 1754.08. In this study, 863 (446 males ; 417 females ) adults and 120 juvenile B.viridis specimens collected from various localities in Turkey were examined by morphological, osteological and serological methods. Our results did not establish any qualitative or quantitative differences which are significant between the populations examined. However the populations from the southern parts of Anatolia (Mersin, Adana, Antakya and Urfa) were found to be relatively different than those of the other regions of Turkey in colour and pattern. In this study, the growth properties of pike (Esox lucius L., 1758) in Dam Lake Kesikköprü between April 1995 and March 1996 were examined. In the examined samples, the age of females and males ranged from I-V and I-IV respectively. The population was composed of 55 % males and 45' % females. The forked length and weight of females and males varied from 18,7 to 49,4 cm., from 265 to 1100 g, and from 16,5 to 53,0 cm., from 260 to 1140 g., respectively. Morphological Variations Observed On The Sand Smelt (Atherina Boyeri Risso, 1810) Populations, Ömer Altun

The morphological characteristics of marine and fresh water populations of A. boyeri were described in detail for the first time from the Turkish waters, and their metric and meristic characters were compared both with one another and with those given previously for its brackish water population from Lake Küçükçekmece. It was realized that the distribution of these characteristics remained within the ranges given for the Mediterranean Basin. The morphology of premaxilla, of scale and of vertebra, and the difference in color form the differential properties among these three populations.

The relationships between length-weight, and meat yield of freshwater crayfish, Astacus leptodactylus, in the Ağın Region of Keban Dam Lake, were investigated. In both sexes a linear relation was found between carapace length and wet body weight (r^2_males= 0.923 and r^2_females= 0.882). In addition, regression coefficients (slopes) showed that negative allometric body weight increase occurs in both sexes (slope_ males= 2.66 and slope_ females = 2.51). Güllük Lagoon has an area of 2500 decares with a depth of 0.5-5.0 m and is connected to Güllük Bay by a channel. In this study, samplings of phytoplankton and benthos were taken physico-chemical parameters were recorded monthly during 1993 at 5 stations. The temperature reached a minimum of 10.42°C in January and a maximum of 26.9°C in July, with a mean annual temperature of 19.53±1.511. The reproductive characteristics of the pike perch (Stizostedion lucioperca (L., 1758)) population of Eğirdir Lake were examined Age group I and II were the largest population groups Sexual maturity in both sexes was determined in age group I-II. In this study, scales from Tigris-nase (Chondrostoma regium, (Heckel,1843)) inhabiting the Suat Uğurlu Dam were studied and the ages were determined. Time of annulus formation was derived from annual changes of opaque and hyaline zones on scale margins. This study was conducted in order to determine the species of feeding organisms living in the stomach contents of Capoeta trutta in the Tigris River and changes in the organisms according to season, month and age. For this purpose, 120 fish samples were caught between September 1991 and August 1992. At the end of this study, 31 plant-like and 2 animal-like organisms were identified, making a total of 33 genera. The total nutrition consisted of the following percentages: 61.24% Bacillariophyta, 27.72% Cyanophyta, 8.88% Chlorophyta, 1.88% Euglenophyta and 0.25% zoological organisms.

In this study, cadmium concantrations in the muscle, brain, and bone tissues of Tilapia nilotica exposed to 0.1, 0.5 and 1.0 ppm of cadmium (Cd) for 15, 30 and 60 days were examined. At the end of assigned periods, the concentrations of cadmium in the tissues were measured by Atomic Absorbtion Spectrofotometer (AAS). The concentration of the cadmium in the muscle tissue was not statistically significiant in relation to medium concentration and the period. In this study, the total fatty acid compositions of the eggs, and the seventh, eighth and ninth nymphal developmental stages and one-day-old adults and thirty-day-old adults of both sexes of the black cricket Melanogryllus desertus reared on stock-culture medium, were analysed separately by gas chromatography. Oleic, linoleic, palmitic and stearic acids constituted the major part of the fatty acid compositions at the examined developmental stages. Twenty-six animals of the species Meriones tristrami Thomas, 1892 were studied morphologically. The animals were collected province of Diyarbakır-Turkey. The specimens were studied in respect to thier morphological characteristics in detail. The data obtained from the specimens were compared with the results of the previous studies. Rumen contents obtained from 30 domesticated cattle (Bos taurus L.), slaughtered at abattoirs in the vicinity of Izmir, were surveyed for ciliates belonging to the genus of Epidinium. Results of this survey suggested that the ciliates in the genus should not be classified to the species level on the basis of caudal spination characteristics, as previously proposed (1). Populations intermediate in these characteristics were detected in Turkish cattle and analysis of the morphometrical data for all criteria did not indicate significant differences for establishing separate species. Rumen contents obtained from 27 adult domesticated cattle (Bos taurus L.) were surveyed for the ciliate formae belonging to Entodinium longinucleatum. All the protozoa identified as belonging to the species were distinguished as E. longinucleatum forma longinucleatum with a frequency appearance of 96.30% (in 26 animals examined). The ciliate numbers of the forma range from 1,184 to 98,826 per milliliter of rumen contents, with a mean of 31,779. The rumen ciliate protozoal composition belonging to the family Ophryoscolecidae from Turkish domestic sheep (Ovis ammon aries) was investigated. As the result of our investigation, 8 genera (Diplodinium, Eudiplodinium, Ostracodinium, Metadinium, Enoploplastron, Polyplastron, Epidinium and Ophryoscolex) including 10 species and 11 formae were distinguished. The genus and species which have the highest appearance frequency are Metadinium and M. affine, respectively, with the same value of 85.71%. On Specimens Of Lacerta Cappadocica Werner, 1902 (Sauria: Lacertidae) Collected From Ihlara Valley (Aksaray), Yusuf Kumlutaş, Kurtuluş Olgun

In this study, a total of 29 specimens (16 males, 10 females and 3 juvenile) collected from Ihlara Valley were examined. The study was based on pholidosis, coloration and pattern, and body measurement as well as ecological and biologic observations. In conclusion it was determened that the population in the vicinity of Aksaray possess the same features as the nominate subspecies.

The present study has been carried out in order to determine the Patella species distributed in Saros Bay located on the northest of the Aegean Sea. For this purpose, 3 stations in the north and 3 stations in the south of the bay were chosen and a total of 340 specimens were collected from the 6 stations. In this study, the female genital organ structure of thirteen species' from the genus Bruchidius were examined regarding also with the detailed studies with the figures of the tergum VIII th and sternit IX th which also includes the VIII th sternal fork, spiculum ventrale and coxite, spermatheca and bursa copulatrix the systematical differances between these parts were discussed at the species level.
