Consumer Willingness To Pay For Food Products Displaying A Black-Owned Production Label, Logan Gage Moss
Consumer Willingness To Pay For Food Products Displaying A Black-Owned Production Label, Logan Gage Moss
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Black and African Americans have faced historic underrepresentation in the agri-food system (Horst & Marion, 2019). Systemic inequities have hindered food entrepreneurs and economic growth within this community. Recent diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives highlight societal concerns about these imbalances (Darity, 2024). Some consumers aim to address this underrepresentation by purchasing products from Black entrepreneurs, but this requires effective communication, which can increase marketing expenses and risks for producers. However, highlighting Black-owned food products may enhance outcomes for this marginalized community. Credence attributes like Black ownership cannot be evaluated even after consumption, unlike traits such as taste and quality. …
Consumer Perceptions Of Hemp-Fed Aquaculture, Jillian Hyink
Consumer Perceptions Of Hemp-Fed Aquaculture, Jillian Hyink
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Global demand for seafood has increased significantly over the past several decades and is projected to continue rising in the future. The volume of aquaculture production has also particularly increased to meet this demand in the United States and globally, offering a relatively sustainable supplement to wild fish supplies. However, conventional fish farming uses unsustainable quantities of fishmeal and fish oil as feed inputs, which raises the cost of production and introduces safety concerns associated with fish consumption. One currently underexplored potential alternative to fishmeal is hemp grain, which can provide an affordable and nutritious feed for carnivorous fish and …
Cover Cropping: How Sustainability And Economics Can Work Hand In Hand, Emma Reyes
Cover Cropping: How Sustainability And Economics Can Work Hand In Hand, Emma Reyes
Business and Economics Summer Fellows
Research finds that over half of the agricultural lands worldwide have been moderately or severely affected by soil degradation (Kopittke et al., 2019). This problem is further heightened by the fact that many farmers are concerned about the profitability of sustainable practices. As a result, this may lead to an increase in the practice of more harmful conventional agricultural techniques if they continue to be considered more economically beneficial in comparison. This paper aims to see if the use of a specific sustainable practice known as cover cropping can help to increase the level of economic benefits farmers receive. Cover …
Methods To Manage Survey Error Within Economic Contribution Analysis, Madison Jane Plaisance
Methods To Manage Survey Error Within Economic Contribution Analysis, Madison Jane Plaisance
LSU Master's Theses
The primary objective of this research was to employ strategical methodological approaches to assess the economic value of specific sub-sectors of the green industry within Louisiana. I specifically focused on addressing errors associated with utilizing survey data as the primary data source in such analyses and utilizing approaches such as post-survey stratification and bootstrapping techniques to mitigate these errors.
To achieve this aim, a group of green industry professionals and I selected sectors for analysis based on horticultural licenses issued by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF). Through collaboration with advisors from the Louisiana Nursery and Landscape Association …

Determinants Of Female Bargaining Power In Northern Mozambican Households, Sara Marilyn Gardner
Determinants Of Female Bargaining Power In Northern Mozambican Households, Sara Marilyn Gardner
Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Undergraduate Honors Theses
Melinda Gates stated, “If you search for poverty, you will find women who don’t have power. If you explore prosperity, you will find women who do have power and use it.” Throughout Sub-Saharan Africa, women are expected to perform disproportional amounts of labor but are often ignored in household decision-making regarding social and economic matters. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) states that women in Mozambique are highly disadvantaged, relative to men, due to low levels of education, maternal health risks, restricted economic prospects, and cultural norms. This study aims to better understand the causes of female empowerment in Northern …

Economic Contribution Of The Agricultural Sector To The Arkansas Economy In 2018, Leah English, Jennie Popp, Wayne Miller

Agriculture and associated agricultural activities are major contributors to the Arkansas economy. Agriculture is defined as the sum of agricultural production and processing activities, unless otherwise specified, and includes crop and animal production and processing, agricultural support industries, forestry and forest products, and textile goods. Agriculture contributes to the economy through direct agricultural production and value-added processing, leading to economic activity in other parts of the economy. This report is the thirteenth in a series that examines agriculture’s economic contribution to the Arkansas economy. Irrigation Management, Environment, And Profits: Who Wins?, Emily O'Donnell
Irrigation Management, Environment, And Profits: Who Wins?, Emily O'Donnell
Department of Agricultural Economics: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
The impact of irrigation technology on farmers’ management strategies and resulting environmental benefits depends upon agronomic properties and market forces. We evaluate the role of deficit irrigation using soil moisture probe technology on corn yield and evapotranspiration, which is a measure of water use efficiency. Evapotranspiration represents the water that transits through the plant during planting to harvest (transpiration) and the evaporation from the soil into the environment, or the displaced water in the production process. We develop yield and evapotranspiration response functions to inform a constrained profit maximization model used to identify the optimal irrigation level across a variety …

2012 Kentucky Equine Survey, College Of Agriculture, Food And Environment, University Of Kentucky, Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund, Kentucky Horse Council, Ag Equine Programs, University Of Kentucky
Kentucky Equine Survey
The last thorough equine inventory in Kentucky was undertaken in 1977, leaving the state’s equine industry with 35 years of changes, growth and contraction that were neither measured nor analyzed.
In response to these needs, in 2011, the University of Kentucky and the Kentucky Horse Council, with support by industry organizations spearheaded by the Kentucky Quarter Horse Association, the Kentucky Thoroughbred Farm Managers’ Club and Kentucky Thoroughbred Association/Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders, and initial support from the University of Louisville, succeeded in securing funding for a large-scale, comprehensive equine survey upon which future industry plans could be built. This was …
