Essays On The U. S. Biofuel Policies: Welfare Impacts And The Potential For Reduction Of Ghg Emission, Kassu Wamisho Hossiso
Department of Agricultural Economics: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
This dissertation study investigates the impact of the US biofuel policies related to greenhouse gas (GHG) emission regulation, tax credit and renewable fuel standard (RFS2) mandate over production and consumption of ethanol as well as technical and environmental performance of corn ethanol plants. The study develops analytical models and provides quantitative estimation of the impact of various biofuel policies in each of the three chapters.
Chapter 1 of this dissertation examines the tradeoff between achieving the environmental goal of minimizing life cycle GHG emissions and minimizing production costs in recently built dry-grind corn ethanol plants. The results indicate that the …

The Impact Of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (Bse) On World Protein Supply, Jarrod Kersey
The Impact Of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (Bse) On World Protein Supply, Jarrod Kersey
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
As world population, per capita income and urbanization increase, consumption of meat, poultry, milk and eggs will continue to rise to meet the needs of approximately nine billion people in 2050. Global beef, pig and chicken production and per capita consumption increased between 2000 and 2010, with growth in broiler production and consumption outpacing both beef and swine. The increased production and consumption requires readily available feed ingredients in regions where animal production is rapidly developing. Animal-based protein feed ingredients are often difficult to move from country to country due to real or perceived risk of animal disease. Zoosanitary standards …

Economic Impact Of The Ability Of Nebraska Agriculture To Irrigate: The Case Of 2012, Nebraska Farm Bureau, Decision Innovation Solutions
Nebraskiana Publications: Resources and Materials on the 37th State
With the harsh 2012 growing season behind for Nebraska crop producers, sights are now on the prospects for 2013. An exceptional drought gripped much of the United States from mid-June to the end of the growing season. In many regards, the drought persists in many parts of the country. Without significant moisture accumulations prior to spring planting 2013, drought conditions may continue into next year’s growing season. Since the drought of 2012 became a cause of concern in mid-2012, there have been discussions regarding ways to limit the use of water for agricultural purposes. Many of these discussions will result …

In the last two decades there has been a growing demand for quinoa in the global market. The variety known as “royal quinoa” is in highest demand because of the size of its great and its high nutritional value. This variety grows exclusively in the high plateau of Bolivia, around two salt flats. Bolivia, therefore, is the number one producer and exporter of this “grano de oro,” and has been facing an increasing demand. The subject of quinoa is very pertinent to Bolivian politics because President Evo Morales has been promoting and incentivizing the production, and because 2013 will be …

What Are Agroforestry's Income Opportunities
What Are Agroforestry's Income Opportunities
Working Trees (USDA-NAC)
What are agroforestry's income opportunities?
Agroforestry is an approach to land use that incorporates trees and shrubs into agricultural systems and allows for the production of trees, crops and/or livestock from the same piece of land. It offers ways to take advantage of profitable product markets and, at the same time, helps improve the land and the environment.
Look at the fields, woods, streamsides and fence rows around a farm or ranch. Are any of these areas under utilized? There are many opportunities for farmers and ranchers to introduce agroforestry practices on their land, which may open up new income …
