This NebGuide provides brief descriptions of selected winter wheat varieties released since 1984. The University of Nebraska Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources conducts wheat variety trials in all parts of Nebraska. Private companies enter their varieties or hybrids in the test voluntarily. Public entries are chosen by the agronomy staff at the University. The current copy of the annual Extension Circular, Nebraska Fall-Sown Small Grain Variety Tests, includes detailed yield, bushel weight, other performance data, and period of years data. The purpose of this study was to determine whether shipments of wheat by railroad from Nebraska and other Great Plains States are discriminated against relative to shipments from other wheat producing states and regions. Primary objectives were: (1) To develop a technique for measuring place discrimination (2) To employ the technique in testing empirical data for evidence of discrimination (3) To analyze the results and explore implications for geographically-separated wheat shippers.

The increasing areas of crops being sown in high rainfall districts make it likely that many crcp areas include sections liable to severe waterlogging.

The basic objective of the research reported here is to estimate supply response with varying product prices for wheat and feed grains. Within a framework of representative farm income maximization, changing product price relationships lead to supply adjustments which are aggregated and expressed as normative supply functions. Another objective is to analyze the resource use and net returns with varying prices for wheat and feed grains. RESULTS of variety trials carried out in 1968 by the Department of Agriculture were considered by the State Wheat Advisory Committee and the State Coarse Grains Advisory Committee in making recommendations on leading varieties of wheat, oats and barley.
Details of the recommendations are set out below.
Recommendations on linseed varieties have been included in view of the growing significance of the industry and representations from farmers for consideration of this crop along with the cereals.

INSECT pests have been taking toll of mans' crops and herds since very early times and despite modern control techniques the annual loss is still very high.
It has been estimated that damage to stored grain alone may average 10 per cent, per year, or, in terms of the West Australian harvest, a loss by weevils of about twice the capacity of the large Midland Junction bin.

IN 1966 farmers in the cereal areas of Western Australia sowed approximately 6.5 million acres of wheat, 1.2 million acres of oats, and 0.4 million acres of barley (mainly six-row).

THE wheat varieties Claymore, Gabo and Wagin have been withdrawn from the list of wheat varieties recommended by the State Wheat Advisory Committee for sowing this season, mainly because of their lower yield performances.
THE varieties Avon, Fulmark, Irwin and Kent are recommended for sowing in 1967 by the Coarse Grains Advisory Committee and the Department of Agriculture. The areas where satisfactory crops of these varieties can be grown are given in the map and table.

Rising production costs coupled with downward tendencies in product prices focuses attention on efficient patterns of resource allocation. It was the purpose of this study (1) to review the literary history of rusts in the United States and in the Northwest in particular, ( 2) to learn where rusts generally are found geographically, (3) to gain further information regarding the etiology of wheat rust (Puccinia graminis tritici), of white pine blister rust (Cronartium ribicola) and to become enlightened on other rusts, (4) to learn ways of controlling the two rusts, black stem rust of wheat and white pine blister rust, and to gain an appreciation of the economic importance of rust prevention.

At present some farm programs are aimed at reducing the acreage of land used for crop production. These programs have the objectives of reducing quantities of certain farm commodities and conserving land resources.
