The Burakin Focus Catchment Project was developed between farmers and Agriculture _ Western Australia. The project was designed to give farmers an understanding of the salinity processes occurring within the Catchment and suggestions on appropriate management.

Work began in the Catchment early in 1999 and was complete at the end of 2000. Intensive hydrological investigations formed the basis of the study, which was complemented by surface water control and revegetation strategies. In pursuit of evaluating the suitability of methods for determining the ability of soils to supply available nitrogen under different soil conditions, two biological aerobic and anaerobic incubation procedures and six chemical extraction methods were applied to 31 samples of soil collected from the Central Anatolian area. The selected area for the study represents the criteria of arid and semi-arid regions. Statistically significant correlation coefficients were found between the biological methods and the five chemical methods that were evaluated out of the six. This research was conducted to determine the effects of different phosphorus doses (0, 4, 8 and 12 kg P_2O_5/da) on root, above-ground biomass and nodule development of vetch species (Vicia villosa Roth., V. pannonica Crantz. and V. sativa L.) in the experimental field of the Agricultural Faculty of Gaziosmanpaşa University in the 1997-98 growing season. Common vetch had the highest above-ground biomass, number of nodules on the lateral roots and total nodule number, whereas Hungarian vetch had the highest root biomass, number of nodules on the main root and nodule dry weight. This study was carried out to establish some physical properties and proximate chemical compositions of taro corms collected from Anamur and Bozyazı in İçel province, Turkey. A total of two taro corms from different sources were evaluated for pH, dry matter, crude protein, crude cellulose unrefined oil, starch, invert sugar, total sugar, ash, Ca, Mg ve K. French fries produced from the corms were evaluated on composition and sensory properties. The samples collected from Anamur and Bozyazı differed in some parameters. This study was performed to determine the effects of bleaching and impregnation processes on the hardness of the varnish layer in beech wood. For this purpose, samples were impregnated with Tanalith-CBC and Immersol-WR 2000 and bleached with the solution groups (18%) NaOH+H_2O_2, NaOH+ Ca(OH)_2 +H_2O_2, NaOH+ MgSO_4+ H_2O_2, NaHSO_3+H_2C_2O_4.2H_2, NaSiO_3 +H_2O_2, KMnO_4 +NaHSO_3+H_2O_2. Synthetic varnishing was used and the hardness of the varnish layer was determined according to ASTM-D-4366. A modified combination model that used ambient temperature,relative humidity,solar radiation,air velocity and leaf area index (LAI) as inputs was developed for nursery plants, and its prediction was compared to the measured ET of the plant. A nursery plant of red maple (Acer rubrum) grown in a lysimeter under field conditions was used to test it. This modified combination model was shown to accurately estimate the evapotranspiration (ET) of a potted red maple (R^2=0.79). In this study, the effects of different sucrose, BAP and Kinetin concentrations in MS medium on plantlet formation, bud formation on the plantlets and development of embryos isolated from the seeds of Tilia platyphyllos under in vitro conditions were investigated. In addition, the effects of different culture times on the development of embryos and plantlet formation were studied. The results indicated that the cultured embryos on the media supplemented with sucrose (10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 g/l) developed plantlets with epicotyls and roots. The effect of an exogenous commercial enzyme with glycosidase activities on free and glycosidically bound aroma compounds of the white wines obtained from muscat of Alexandria and Emir cultivars was investigated. The fermenting must was divided into two equal parts towards the end of the fermentation and 40 mg/l of enzyme was added to one part. This qualitative study considers the links between the political ideology that led to the deregulation of the dairy industry in July 2000 and the personal lived experiences of dairy farming families at a grass roots level. The post-deregulation experiences of dairy farming families within the South West region of Western are investigated through an engaged critical ethnographic methodology. A technique is presented for dynamically adjusting misting intervals during propagation of vegetative cuttings. A crop setpoint temperature for activation of misting was defined by a "non-water-stressed baseline" concept, using infrared thermometry to acquire canopy temperature for plant feedback. The critical crop setpoint temperature was calculated from instantaneous values of air temperature, incident radiation, and air vapor pressure deficit (VPD_air). Misting was activated when the actual crop temperature exceeded the critical crop setpoint temperature.
