The Effects Of Block Size And Amount Of Brine On The Salt Absorption In White Pickled Cheese, Tümer Uraz, Nurşen Gencer

In this research, the effects of cheese size and amount of brine on the salt absorption of white Pickled cheese were investigated. After manufacture, cheeses were portioned into sizes of 7x7x7±1 and 7x7x11±1 cm. Then these samples were salted for 5 hours in different brines of the same concentration (14 %) but in different amounts (s and 2s). These 4 different cheese samples (A, B, C, D) were packed in brine (14%) in cans which were suitable for each cheese size. This research was conducted in the Small Fruits Implementation Area belonging to Çukurova University Agricultural Faculty Horticultural Department during the 1999 vegetation period. Nessy, Chester Thornless, Oregon Thornless and Jumbo blackberry cvs. were used. Pollen viability levels in these cultivars were determined by using TTC and FDA staining tests. In addition, the effects of 50, 100, 200 and 400 ppm concentrations of Ca(NO 3 ) 2 , MgSO 4 , KNO 3 and H 3 BO 3 on pollen germination were investigated. The aim of this study was to determine the available and slowly available potassium capacity of soil samples collected from the Kahramanmaraş plain. Slowly available potassium content was determined by the HCl extraction method. Slowly available potassium was found at between 3 and 46 mg 100 g^{-1} at a depth of 0-15 cm, 1 and 33 mg 100 g^{-1} at a depth of 15-30 cm and 1 and 25 mg 100 g^{-1} at a depth of 30-45 cm. This study was carried out to determine the effect of planting density on yield, quality and productive energy consumption for photoperiodic lighting in Gypsophila paniculataL.'Perfecta' growing under unheated plastic greenhouse conditions for 4 cropping seasons, at the Horticultural Research Institute (Erdemli, İçel-Turkey), during 1992-1994. In this study, in order to determine optimum conditions for peroxide reinforced oxygen delignification of wheat straw organosolv pulps, five experiments were carried out changing the alkali ratio, peroxide charge and reaction time. After the statistical evaluations of the data obtained, optimum delignification conditions were found to be as follows: NaOH ratio 6%, H_2O_2 ratio 2.5%, reaction temperature 80 ^oC, reaction time 60 min., oxygen pressure 10 kg/cm^2 , concentration 16%. Research is needed to compare the different techniques for developing site‐specific phosphorus (P) recommendations on a field‐wide basis. The objective of this study was to determine the impact different techniques for developing site‐specific P recommendation maps on yield and profitability. Enterprise analysis combined with a crop simulation model and detailed field characterization was used to estimate the value of spatial P information in a system where N was not limiting. Computer And Internet Adoption On Large U.S. Farms, Brent A. Gloy, Jay Akridge

The adoption of the personal computer and the Internet is studied within a sample of large U.S. farms. Factors such as age and education influence the adoption of both technologies. Likewise, strong relationships exist between the adoption of each technology and the sophistication of farm management and the complexity of the farm business. After controlling for computer adoption, the results suggest there remain several factors limiting Internet adoption. It appears that producers are unsure as to how the Internet can best be used to create value in their farm businesses.

Three tests were conducted over a 2-year period in lowland irrigated rice fields on the WARDA Research Station at Bouaké, Côte d’Ivoire, to obtain information on the strepsipteran parasitism of white leafhoppers, Cofana spectra and C. unimaculata. Rice cultivars were sampled with a sweep net to collect leafhoppers for determination of the relative abundance of the two leafhopper species and the effect of rice cultivar and rice crop age on the leafhopper populations and percent strepsipteran parasitism.
