Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The study was carried out to determine the efficiency of forward-sloped bench terraces on soil conservation in the Aydın- Bozdoğan-Alamut terracing area. For this purpose, the shape specifications, and physical and chemical properties of the soil that belong to the sample terraces in the project area were determined and the factors of K and LS that are needed for calculating soil losses were are found through the Universal Soil Losses Equation. According to the evaluation, especially the determined factors of K and LS were higher for the sample terraces interfered with by farmers and this result shows that the probable …

The effects of press direction, wood and glue types on the tensile strength on "T" joints with mortise and tenon. Mortises and tenons were constructed and opened with a circular saw and glued to "T" joint members made of pine ( Pinus silvestris L.) , beech ( Fagus orientalis L.), chesnut ( Castenea sativa Mill.), cedar ( Cedrus libani), which are widely used in the furniture industry. "T" joints were bonded with side pressure and axial pressure with the following glues: Desmodur-VTKA, PVAc, PVA(pink) and Kleiberit 305. Tension tests were carried out on prepared samples according to DIN 53251 and …

Proper Use Of Ammoniated Low-Quality Forages For The Wintering Of Spring-Calving Beef Cow Herds In The Intermountain West, D. R. Zobell
Proper Use Of Ammoniated Low-Quality Forages For The Wintering Of Spring-Calving Beef Cow Herds In The Intermountain West, D. R. Zobell
All Current Publications
Low‐quality forages (LQF) such as cereal straws or post‐ripe hays are often used as economical feed sources for the wintering of beef cow herds. The ammoniation of such forages increases the digestibility and crude protein (CP) enough so that these forages can be used as the basis of beef cow diets, even during late gestation and early lactation if supplemented properly.

Western Australia - A Johne's Disease Free Zone, Peter Morcombe
Western Australia - A Johne's Disease Free Zone, Peter Morcombe
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
The control of Johne's disease (JD) in Australia is coordinated nationally by Animal Health Australia in conjunction with the livestock industries and the Commonwealth and State "Governments. Zones were established for Australia in July 1999 to control the spread of JD. These zones ensured that surveillance established the prevalence of JD, and that movement restrictions on livestock appropriate to the zone status were implemented. Following many years of surveillance and restrictions on the introduction of livestock, Western Australia has now been declared a Johne's Disease Free Zone - the first in Australia. Johne's Disease State Coordinator Peter Morcombe looks at …

The main object of this study was to observe the effect of regional N-fertilizer applications on the nitrate accumulation of some winter vegetables grown on farmer's fields located at different parts of the Tokat region. For this reason, leaf samples of some winter vegetables, namely spinach, cabbage, leek and lettuce collected from each field were analysed for nitrate, and the soil samples taken from a depth of 0-20 cm depth of each sampling field were analysed for nitrate content and texture. According to the results of this study, different nitrate levels (910-2360 mg/kg in spinach, 945-1785 mg/kg in cabbage, 750-1947 …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In this study, a model was used for the optimization of product mix (the amounts of each product in the mixture) in particleboard industry by using linear programming. A theoretical model was constructed in which operations research methods and linear programming were applied to the maximization of the profit of a particleboard mill (KÖYKOBİR) as the consumer of industrial wood. To this end, 1993-1994-1995-1996 production, sales, stock quantities and costs as well as data related to capacities of the chipping, drying, pressing, sanding and gluing units were processed. Moreover, processing times of every product at these units were calculated. The …
Investigations On The Performance Of Some Strawberry Cultivars (Fragaria X Ananassaduch.) Grownin Open Fields And Under High Tunnel Conditions, Kubi̇lay Önal
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Five strawberry cultivars were grown as frigo seedlings planted in July by using two management systems, open grow-ing and high tunnel, in 1996 and 1997. Yield, earliness and some quality characters were observed. The high tunnel system made the crop 2-3 weeks earlier than the open field system with a longer period. Yield was also high in the high tunnel system with 1053 grams per plant while it was 877 grams in open growing. Miranda was the highest yielding cultivar in both management systems. Cultivars Camarosa and Miranda were superior for fruit weight and the rate of high quality.

Impacts Of Turkey's Integration Into The European Union On Agriculture In The Post-Uruguay Round Environment, Cemal Atici, P. Lynn Kennedy
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Agricultural trade policies between Turkey and the European Union are modeled using a political preference function (PPF). The PPF is used to estimate the producer and consumer weights perceived by policy makers. The agricultural effects of Turkey's integration into the European Union (EU) and optimal strategies for Turkey and the EU are analyzed Results show that Turkey' s PPF values will be lower, with respect to agriculture, when it joins the EU; however, EU trade liberalization benefits Turkey.

Relationship Between Leaf Area Index At Anthesis And Yield In Wheat Under Çukurova Conditions, Müjde Koç, Celaleddi̇n Barutçular
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Wheat yields are closely related to leaf area index (LAI) at anthesis. The optimum leaf area index differs according to genotype and location conditions. Three field experiments were conducted to determine the pattern of the relationship between LAI at anthesis and yield in Çukurova , a region with an acclerated ear and grain growth. Different genotypes, seeding density and nitrogen doses were used to create a range of LAI. Biological yield (BY) and grain yield (GY) increased quadratically in response to LAI values, with greater responses for BY (R 2 =0.46**) than for GY (R 2 =0.35**). As LAI increased …

The Use Of Geographical Information Systems In Selecting Forest Road Routes, Orhan Erdaş, Selçuk Gümüş
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
During the forest road planning process, the determination of road routes requires the evaluation of many factors. The data needed for forest road planning are obtained from different sources with different standards. The variation in data sources causes problems in the effective and collective usage of these data. Geographical Information Systems is a frequently used tool in the decision making progress. It use database queries to find the best solution requiring the least time and money. In this study, the forest road routes on digital map are prepared in order to reach each point of the area of the planning …
