This study was carried out to determine important nut and kernel quality characteristics and variation in nut and kernel weight and kernel percentage in orchards of Palaz hazelnut cultivar in Ordu and nearby villages. Samples were selected at random from 36 orchards. It was determined that the nut weight, shell thickness, kernel weight and kernel percentage of this cultivar were 1.810-2.721 g, 0.610-0.970 mm, 0.988-1.431 g and 41.94-60.53%, respectively. Plant tissue cultures were obtained from the seeds of five varieties on the basis of petal colour) of Papaver somniferum and alkaloidal extracts were screend for the presence of secondary metabolites using thin layer chromatography and mass spectroscopy. Two plant tissue culture media were used in this study, Murashige & Skoog and Gamborg B5, supplemented with 0.1 mg/l of kinetin in addition to one of either 1.0 or 5.0 mg/l of 2, 4 dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2, 4-D). The objective of this research was to determine the effects of sodium hydroxide + hydrogen peroxide, sodium hydroxide + calcium hydroxide + hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid applied on the scotch pine ( Pinus sylvestris L), oriental beech ( Fagus orientalis Lipsky), ash wood ( Froxinus excelsior L.) and oak ( Quercus petraea Mattu Liebl.) on the layer hardness of acrylic, synthetic, polyurethane and acid catalyzed varnish. A New Approach Oriented To New Reallotment Model Based On Block Priority Method In Land Consolidation, Musa Avci

In this study, a new model, which is used in determining of reallotment plan in land consolidation, have been presented and this model have been applied to Salihli-Yılmaz Village. Then, the results of this model have been compared with results of the conventional method. This method takes account the maximization of the amount of land non-exchanged and is based on linear programming. According to the results from this study, the average number of plots per farm decreases to 1 in plan obtained from this model, while the amount of the non-exchanged land were obtained as high as conventional methods.

The effects of storage temperature and ripening stage on the ripening rate of freshly harvested tomatoes before storage were determined. Respiration was slower in tomatoes harvested at mature green stage of ripening, and the respiration rate increased until the tomatoes reached to the pink and light-red stages of maturity. The maximum CO 2 production occurred in toma-toes harvested at pink, light-red and red stages of maturity, whereas the minimum O 2 consumption occurred in tomatoes harvested at turning, pink and light-red stages of maturity. Some Taracaxum-type and lxeris-type development, was determined. This research was carried out to determine whether dominant morphological features could be used instead of disease tests as markers of lines resistant to stem rust ( Puccinia graminis tritici Eriks. and Henn.). Of the 13 species used as material in the hybridization program, 9 were non-resistant and 4 were resistant. Experiments were carried out separately, because of the different genetic structure in seedling resistance and adult resistance. This study was undertaken to determine the relative strength of individual soil aggregates of different sizes and shapes against crushing forces. Soil aggregates were placed individually between a clean-fixed flat surface and a flat plate connected to a pocketpenetrometer and crushed under applied stress. The results of this study show that the strength of the aggregates against disruptive forces was directly related to aggregate size and shape. As the aggregate size increased, so did the applied stress required to crush the aggregate. Centroid Samling was tested on 21 logs of Ash ( Fraxinus angustifolia subsp. oxycarpa), 38 logs of Spruce ( Picea orien-talis (L.) Link.), and 33 logs of Beech ( Fagus orientalis Lipsky.) all of which were measured in detail. The wolume of each log was estimated using Huber's, Smalian's, Newton, Riecke's, Hosfeld's formulas and Centroid Sampling. These estimates were compared with "true" volume of each log which was determined by aggregating the volumes of measured short sections (1 m.) using Smalian's formula. In this research, the aims were to determine the flower quality and yield of Alstroemeria 'Regina', were grown under 12, 14 and 16 hours by employing the natural day and two different light intensities (first level light intensity: min.90, max.678 lux; second level light intensity: min. l04, max. 888 lux) with high-pressure sodium lamps in greenhouse conditions. The efficiency of trickle irrigation systems depends directly on the uniformity with which water is discharged from the emission devices throughout the system. Ideally, all emitters in the system should discharge equal amounts of water. One major cause of flow rate difference between two identical emitters from the same manufacturer is the manufacturing variation. This study was carried out in 1995 on Mahalep (Prunus mahaleb L.) seeds an important rootstock for sour cherry and sweetcherry trees. In this research, effects of seed coat removal, GA_3, H_2SO_4, preserved in cold and hot water, at 20 - 24ºC and 2 - 4 ºC, stratification in field on germination of mahaleb seeds were investigated. The purpose of this study is to investigate the problems encountered in the irrigated and non-irrigated areas of Lower Seyhan Plain which coveres 213 200 ha land and has a great agricultural potential for Turkish economy. In the irrigated areas; it has been determined that actual cropping pattern is quite different from the proposed one, and irrigation ratio varied between 66 and 86 %. In this study mature and immature embryos of Doğu-88 wheat variety was cultured for callus development on MS medium supplemented with 4 different substances. Experiment was planned and analysised as factorial design with two replication. Data has been converted with rootsquare transformation. Observations were continued during 42 days. Number oftubes in which callus, shoot and root formation occured, were found after observation. The immature embryos formed the highest callus (average 94 % ) on medium MS containing 2 mg/l 2,4-D + 1 mg/l kinetin. A Study Of The Flower Biology Of Different Rye Genotypes (S. Cereale L., S. Montanum Guss.), İlknur Akgün, Meti̇n Tosun, Sevi̇m Sağsöz

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this study, the pollen germination rate, pollen viability, pollen size, pollen production and anther length of rye (S. cereale L.) and the diploid and tetraploid of perennial rye (S. montanum Guss.) populations were examined. The highest pollen germination rate was obtained in 30 % sucrose, 5 ppm boric acid and 10 ppm calcium nitrate solution with all specimens. Furthermore, the lowest pollen size (length: 18.92 \mum; width: 15.26 \mum), pollen production per anther (19982) and anther length (7.39 mm), but the highest pollen germination rate (40.48 %) and pollen viability (94.93 %) were observed in diploid perennial rye.

In this study perlite, volcanic tuff and peat moss media were investigated for their possible use in mushroom production in aquaculture between 1994-1995. In mushroom feeding studies, 2% sucrose medium was found to be the most suitable solution for mushroom mycelium growth. Among the 6 different media each containing 2% sucrose, the effect of different rates of micro and macro elements were studied and mycelium growth was investigated. In this study, the effects of rooted offshoot properties and number of GA_3 applications, 30 ppm in concentration, on the early and total yield of the globe artichoke cv "Sakız", produced in one year, were tested. It was determined that when the offshoots, which were at the vegetative growth stage, were used in plantation, higher early and total yields were obtained than that of the generative growth stage. This positive result gained with offshoots at the vegetative stage was also improved significantly with all GA_3 applications, 30 ppm in concentration when compared with untreated plants. It is the clearing of native vegetation and replacement with lower water-use annual crops and pastures that is responsible for the developing salinity problem. Traditional farming practices have led to increased recharge to the groundwater systems resulting in increased storage and/or greater areas or rates of discharge. Groundwater monitoring has revealed variable rates of rise throughout the Fence Road catchment, from static to 0.6 metres per year, in a period of average to below average rainfall.

In the community of Tunshi San Nicols of the Licto parish in the Province of Chimborazo, an evaluation was done on the effect of an energetic supplementary feeding of bees (Italian-mestizas) during the dry season (September 23 to February 20). These supplements consisted of carrot juice (T1), orange juice (T2) and sugar cane juice (T3). These supplements were also compared to a control group (T0). The experimental units consisted of 16 standard beehives distributed randomly with the 4 treatments and 4 repetitions of each treatment. This report presents a summary of the key findings from a mailed survey to 2,000 landholders in the South West Region of Western Australia in 2006. The survey gathered information on the key social and economic factors affecting landholder decision-making about the adoption of practices expected to improve the management of natural resources in the region. The response rate for the survey was 69.4%.
