Assessing Crop Water Stress And Irrigation Scheduling In Cotton Through Use Of Infraredthermometry Technique, Berkant Ödemi̇ş, Ruhi Baştug

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Crop Water Strees Index (CWSI), based on canopy temperature which can be measured through use of an infrared thermometer, can be used to quantify crop water stress. However, the use of this index on farm level, require field tests for different crops. This study was carried out to evaluate the usage of CWSI for irrigation scheduling and predicting lint cotton yield under Antalya conditions. Soil water contents for different irrigation treatments were measured weekly and before each irrigation during the growing season. During the experiment, crop canopy temperature, dry and wet bulb temperatures and other climatic measurements were taken three …

Long-term field experiments were carried out between 1985 and 1988 to determine the effect of different irrigation intervals and pan coefficients on the fruit and trunk growth rates and yield of mature grapefruit trees grown in the Eastern Mediterranean Region of Turkey in a medium-light textured soil. Two different irrigation intervals (I 1 =15 and I 2 =25 days), and pan coefficients (k 1 =0.60 and k 2 =1.00) were used. Higher evapotranspiration values were obtained from the treatments with k 2 coefficient in the two irrigation regimes. The average irrigation water (IR) and evapotranspiration (Et) values were 796 mm …

The Effect Of Drought On The Growth And Yield Of Winter Wheat, Ali̇ Öztürk Jan 1999

The Effect Of Drought On The Growth And Yield Of Winter Wheat, Ali̇ Öztürk

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The effect of drought on the growth and yield of "Dogu-88" winter wheat variety was investigated in this field experi-ment using plot covers. Fully irrigated (FI), rainfed (R), early drought (ED), late drought (LD) and continuous drought (CD) treat-ments were studied under Erzurum conditions. ED decreased grain number per unit area by 44.4 %, 1000 kernel weight by 6.9 % and grain yield by 40.6 % compared with FI. A rapid senescence of green tissues in LD treatment also led to shorter green area duration (27.5 days), lighter 1000 kernel weight (3.8 g) and lower grain yield (24.0 %). CD …

This research was conducted in Erzurum in 1991 and 1992 seasons using 14 spring oilseed rape ( Brassica napus ssp. oleifera L.) cultivars in order to investigate the relationships between yield and yield components by correlation and path analyses. Positive values were obtained in both seasons between seed yield and the characters: days to flowering, plant height, number of branch, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, pod diameter, pod length, 1000-seed weight, and oil content. However, seed yield was significantly and positive correlated with only number of pod per plant and 1000-seed weight in both seasons. …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study was carried out to determine the shear and bending strength of different end-to-end grain joints, which were glued with PVAc (polyvinyl acetate). For this reason, specimens, prepared from scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris l), were made with three types of end to end grain joints namely: half-lap, mortise and tenon and double mortise-and-tenon. End-to-end grain of half-lap joints gave the highest strength in shear (2.385 N/mm 2 ) and bending (0.540 N/mm 2 ) experiments.

Determination Of Yield And Quality In Marjoram As Influenced By Development Periods, Menşure Özgüven, Sezen Tansi

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Marjoram, naturally grown in Mediterranean region, is a perennial shrub. It is used as spices, and its essential oil has also antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. Marjoram is well-adapted to Çukurova conditions, so, the highest fresh (1077.2 kg/da) and dried herba yields (492.9 kg/da) and essential oil yield (7.77 l/da) were obtained at post-flowering stages. The determined main components of its oil were \gamma-terpinen, p-cymol and terpineol. The contents of geraniol, p-cymol and cineol were found to be influenced by only development stages while sabinen, myrcen, borneol, terpineol, thymol and carvacrol contents were influenced by both development stages and experiment years.

Examining Statistical Sufficiency Of Rainfall Intensities At Standard Times Of Adana, Ali̇ Yücel, Fati̇h Topaloğlu, Kazim Tülücü

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Hydrological and meteorological events are effected from different factors. Their values in future can only be determined by probability and statistical laws because rainfall intensities at standard time occurring under different eftects are random character. However, these values not being random character can not be used in their present situation in system simulation, frequency analysis, watershed amelioration, drainage studies, urban settlement planning, etc. In this study, it is aimed to examine some statistical analysis techniques thought to be helpful in deciding sufficiency of rainfall intensities at standard times in studies in questions. Depending on this aim, 14 rainfall intensities at …

In this study, the effect of diagonal static loads on wooden joints in the production of solid wooden chairs was examined. According to the principle of equal moment distribution, the optimum chair frame and minimum required cross-section components were determined by considering the stresses on joints. Therefore, the location of the bottom frame component was optimized on the most critical sitting position of the chair. According to the diagonal load applied, the performance of the joint construction was determined by testing on the position. In the preparation of samples for testing, first class beech and scotch pine were selected, while …

Effect Of Fallow, Winter Lentil, Nitrogen Fertilization And Different Soil Tillage On Wheat Yield In The Dryfarming Areas Of Central Anatolia, Di̇dar Eser, M. Sai̇t Adak, Andreas Biesantz Jan 1999

Effect Of Fallow, Winter Lentil, Nitrogen Fertilization And Different Soil Tillage On Wheat Yield In The Dryfarming Areas Of Central Anatolia, Di̇dar Eser, M. Sai̇t Adak, Andreas Biesantz

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This research was carried out in two different dryfarming areas of Central Anatolia (Haymana-Ankara and Gözlü-Konya) to detect the effect of fallow and winter lentil and different tillage systems on wheat yields. According to experimental results of two crop rotation cycles, wheat yields after fallow or after lentil respectively, were in the same statistical group (i.e. no significant difference), in spite of a neglectible reduction of yield after lentil in comparison to wheat yield after fallow in Haymana. In this case it could be proved that sowing of winter lentil was more profitable instead of implementing fallow before wheat. In …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The effect of endogenous plant hormones on alternate-bearing, an important factor in olive growing, was investigated. Memecik and Tavşan Türeği olive cultivars were used. Leaf, bud, shoot tip and fruit samples were taken monthly during fruiting and non-fruiting periods for two years. Changes in ABA, GA_3 and IAA were found and the effect of these hormones on the initiation of budding was determined. The results of the experiment showed that there were statistically important significances in the content of ABA, GA_3 and IAA at 5% level. ABA and GA_3 have a direct role in the initiation of flower budding while …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The salinity resistance of eight maize varieties (Riogrande, PostKLF, Postkontrol, Alkantara, G-4662 Dracma, Tarım, Fanion and Kelty), which are cultivated widely in Turkey, was investigated. For this purpose, experimental soil was salinized with 68 mmol/kg NaCl. The salinity responses of the maize varieties were compared by means of various plant parameters. According to the results, Kelty, Post-KLF, Postkontrol and G-4662 Dracma were seen to be more susceptible to salinity than the others. Under salinity stress, the dry matter yield of those varieties was influenced much less than the others and the Na and Cl content was generally found to be …
