A Study Of The Flowering And Fruiting Habits Of The Delicious Apple, Emery R. Ranker Apr 1923

A Study Of The Flowering And Fruiting Habits Of The Delicious Apple, Emery R. Ranker

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

One of the most disagreeable and at the same time the most unprofitable features of commercial apple production is the tendency of most apple varieties to "take a rest" every other year in order to regain the strength given to the production of a very heavy crop the previous year, and thus be able to repeat the process of heavy production the following year. This process is referred to as "off-year" or alternate bearing. Various causal relationships have been suggested , from time to time, by the different workers in the field but the suggestion now most generally accepted, and …

Faunistic Survey Of A Limited Area In New Mexico, Louise Wilkinson, Hazel Fern Reeves May 1917

Faunistic Survey Of A Limited Area In New Mexico, Louise Wilkinson, Hazel Fern Reeves

Biology ETDs

The subject of this thesis was suggested by Prof. A. O. Weese. It was chosen by the writers first because they were interested in the distribution and habits of animal life in New Mexico and second because they wished to learn more about classification and methods of classification of animal life in general.

It has been found that New Mexico does not afford so great a variety of animal life as compared with more moist regions but that it affords much more than a casual observation would indicate. Most of those which it affords are found in large numbers.

The …

A Study Of Senescence, William T. Sanger Jun 1915

A Study Of Senescence, William T. Sanger

Historical Dissertations & Theses

A complete study of senescence would involve, not only a consideration of man, but of lower organisms, animal and plant, as well as institutions, races, nations, even the cosmos itself; for assuredly the phenomena of decay are as universal and intricate as those of genesis. In the present study, however, it will be attempted merely to indicate, first, the best that has already been done upon human senescence; second, to add further findings; and third, to set more definitely a number of new problems for future investigation.

The Psychology Of Senescence: An Introductory Study, Charles W. St. John Jun 1912

The Psychology Of Senescence: An Introductory Study, Charles W. St. John

Historical Dissertations & Theses

The following biographical studies have been made with the purpose of showing through concrete cases some aspects of mental decline in senescence. To the objection that each of these cases follows a course in a degree divergent from that of normal mental decline, the reply is that a study of these striking instanced, we believe, afford a more ready insight into the underlying phenomena than would a similar one which deals with average or typical cases. The significance of exceptional cases should not be underestimated. Certain peculiar conditions have been present which have modified the typical phenomena, but after due …

Embryology And Evolution, Malo Marius Amunson Jun 1906

Embryology And Evolution, Malo Marius Amunson

Manuscript Thesis Collection

The proofs of evolution must be sought in the entire field of science. Direct proof is found in the study of Morphology, whose bases are comparative anatomy; embryology; in the study of paleontology, of geology, of geographical distribution, in the study of nature and experiments of today. In this vast field of direct proofs of evolution it is our purpose to present some of the evidences of evolution as furnished by one of these, namely, Comparative Embryology.

A Study Of The Forage Plants Of South Dakota With Their Fungous And Insect Enemies, David Griffiths Jan 1893

A Study Of The Forage Plants Of South Dakota With Their Fungous And Insect Enemies, David Griffiths

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The main object of this study being a better acquaintance with fungous parasites, the work on the host plants has been considerably abridged in order that the discussion might be shortened. It was the plan at first to include in this paper a carefully written description of each of the principal forage plants of the state. The futility of such a plan, however, soon became apparent, and it was accordingly decided to omit the description and include simply Distribution,

Habitat, Value as Forage, and the Fungous Parasites of each host. There are, therefore, several of our best forage plants omitted …

A Comparison Of The Deinkability Of Certain Printing Inks, Jacob Van Giessen May 1856

A Comparison Of The Deinkability Of Certain Printing Inks, Jacob Van Giessen

Paper Engineering Senior Theses

Printing inks differ in their composition and in their ability to be removed from paper in the deinking process. I was the purpose of this research work to make a comparison of this deinkability, for common printing inks.

In this experimentation, five inks were compared. These were a linseed oil base ink, a mineral oil base ink, a moisture set ink, a alkyd base in and a rubber base ink. Deinking was done using a standard deinking formula and varying only the concentration of the deinking agent.

The results show a marked difference in concentrations of deinking agent necessary for …
