The various physiological characters of Caucasian, C. Anatolian and Erzurum honeybee (A. mellifera L.) genotypes in the conditions of Erzurum were examined in this study. The survival rates of genotypes for the wintering and production periods were found to be 81.82 % and 70.00 %, 90.00 % and 77.78 %, 100.00 % and 90.00% respectively. During the wintering period, 18.18 % and 10.00 % of colonies in Caucasian and C. Anatolian groups respectively died; but no colony from the Erzurum group was lost. During the wintering period, the average food consumption of Caucasian, C. Anatolian and Erzurum groups was calculated …

Gonioscopic Diagnosis And Operatife Treatment Of Glaucoma In Dog Breeds, Faruk Akin

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Intraocular pressure of 104 eyes of 52 dogs were measured using Schiøtz's tonometer between 1995-1996. Obtained scala readings were conversed according to Peiffer's canine calibration table. Lig. pectineum and iridocorneal angles were observed by the help of gonioscopy and slit-lamp. Gonioscopic findigs were evaluated in association with intraoculer pressure separatley. Intraoculer pressures were found higher than normal levels according to finding first of all in Kangal breeds then in half-breed Kangals and the other breeds. The standart deviations were calculated and the pressures were observed to be nearly >30 mmHg. Position of lig. pectineum and the angles were examinated by …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Ovine immunoglobulin M was isolated from sheep serum using gel filtration and affinity chromatography. Polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies against this isotype were prepared. The specificity of the monoclonal antibody was investigated using SDS-Page, immunoblotting, an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and affinity chromatography. On immunoblotting, monoclonal anti-IgM reacted with a 70 kD protein which corresponded to ovine IgM.

Pathological Findings In Caecal Coccidiosis Of Chickens, Ayhan Atasever, K. Semi̇h Gümüşsoy

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Caecal coccidiosis was determined in 12 white Leghorn chickens aged 18 weeks. Macroscopically, slight thickness, con-gestion and petechie were observed in the caecum. The lumen of caecum was full of blood and, necrotic areas were seen on the mucosal surface due to the damagae of villi epithelisl cells. Microscopically, it was observed that erythrocyte, epithelial cells and forms of parasites were present in the lumen of caecum due to the damage of villi epithelial cells. Lymphocyte, plasma cell and heterophil cell infiltrations were found in the propria mucosa as well as gangrenous typhilitis containing focal necrosis.

Postembryonic Development Of The Neural Lamella Of The Hypocerebralganglion In Melanogryllus Desertuspall. (Orthoptera, Gryllidae), Hati̇ce Karaki̇şi̇, Sema İşi̇sağ

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The sheath of the hypocerebral ganglion was divided into two parts: an outer layer, the neural lamella and an inner layer, the perilemma. Dark and light types of glial cells were identified in the perilemma. In the 4th and 7th nymphal stages, some fibrous material related to the neural lamella accumulated in the light glial cells. It was surrounded by rough endoplasmic reticulum membranes and was then transported towards te outer parts of the sheath. Finally, it was bound to and intermingled with the lamella. These observations indicate that the 4th and 7th nymphal stages are critical for the development …
