Ua35/11 Student Honors Bulletin, Vol. I, No. 1, Wku Honors Program
WKU Archives Records
Articles written by honors program students. They were originally research projects, class papers or essays written for academic credit, but in each case the student has done further work editing and improving his or her manuscript for this publication. The articles represent a broad range of interests and disciplines, and they indicate a healthy attempt on the part of at least some students to dig for deeper knowledge and understanding than is usually associated with undergraduate study.

Some Interactions In The Evolution Of Man And Tools, Gary W. Weston
All Master's Theses

Section XV: Biology and the Rise of the Social Sciences
The two areas of the social sciences which were more stimulated by Darwin's research were anthropology and sociology. The Frenchman, Auguste Comte (1798-1857), generally regarded as the father of sociology and the originator of that term, laid the groundwork for the immediate application of the law of evolution to the study of society. Comte's conception of sociology is derived from his philosophy of history. Sharing the Enlightenment belief in progress, Comte saw history evolving through three stages. The first was the theological stage, in which men supplied supernatural explanations for the natural and social phenomena. This was followed bu what …

The Ethnobotany Of The Isleta Indians, Volney H. Jones
Anthropology ETDs
This study is an outgrowth of the increasing interest in the history, ethnology, and archaeology of the Pueblo Indians of the Southwest. Although much research has been done in this very fertile field, new and fascinating problems are constantly presenting themselves.
When one states that the environment greatly influences a people he speaks truisms and common knowledge. The arid Southwest with its distinctive flora offers an unusual environment to which the Indian had adapted himself remarkably well. The object in general of this problem has been to study the reciprocal relation between the Isleta Indian and his plant environment; specifically, …
